1 10/21/18 Important dates: 10/26 Xploration Fall Festival 11/1-11/5 Halloween Candy Buy Back 11/1 Professional Growth Day Early Dismissal 11:20 11/2 Friday Flag 11/6 Dining For Dollars Chipotle (4S Ranch) Attendance H.E.R.O.s Friday Flag was the kick off for our attendance super H.E.R.O. campaign. A flyer went home today ( attached here ) talking about the importance of school attendance. Students were met at the gate this morning by staff and parents dressed as superheroes. Please watch this video for more information about being an attendance superhero. H.E.R.O. Stands for here, everyday, ready (to learn), on time. Students will receive recognition for perfect attendance if they are here on time and stay all day. There are no excused absences for this. If your child is sick with a fever please keep them home and encourage them to try for the next month. Prizes and certificates will be

2 awarded each month and class prizes will be given at Friday Flag. Thank you for helping your children become attendance H.E.R.O.s!! HALLOWEEN GRAMS Student Council is excited to announce the sale of Halloween Grams was a great success!! They have already SOLD OUT of all items. They are no longer accepting orders. Halloween Grams will be delivered to recipients on Halloween. SOCKTOBER Socktober is all month. Please continue to support this event by bringing in brand new socks of all sizes to the donation bin in the office. We have collected over 300 pairs of socks already!! Great job Roadrunners!! Thank you to everyone who has reported the water on the sidewalk in front of the school. Please know that the District is working on it and has hired an outside firm to try and find the leak. Historically this has gone back and forth between the District and city Water Department. The District is being proactive in trying to solve the issue. According to our water usage it doesn t seem to be coming from WWES.

3 October is here and with it, thoughts of Halloween and costume ideas. If your child/children are planning to wear their costume to school, please use the following guidelines: In order to maintain safety and order during Halloween activities, our students should adhere to the standards of appropriate dress for a regular school day: wear appropriate shoes (no high heels), no bare midriffs, etc. It important to remember that we have very young children on campus that would be easily frightened by scary or gory costumes. Students should not wear imitation bloody clothes or any masks. Students should not bring swords, imitation guns, pirate hooks, knives or weapons of any kind. is HALLOWEEN CANDY BUY BACK Returns! Trick or Treating is near and Halloween Candy Buy Back is too. Getting all that candy is good! Getting too much candy is GREAT for Westwood! Bring in your unwanted, overstocked candy to our BOO Barrel in the front office beginning November 1st. Every pound of candy collected is a dollar from iortho formerly Moser Ortho! Last year we collected nearly 250 pounds! The candy collected is then given by iortho to our military troops, Casa del Los Pobres, The San Diego Rescue Mission, Girls Scouts and other local organizations. Bring in that candy, Roadrunners!

4 TYPING AGENT: Students can access Typing Agent through MyPlan, this year students will have to login with their PUSD username and password. We are receiving questions regarding login procedures for Typing Agent. When a user clicks on the Typing Agent icon in MyPlan, they will be taken to the Typing Agent login page where they will need to enter in their username and their password. Students: Username is STUDENT ID and password is their 4-digit password assigned by the District. Jennie Mikels Principal FOUNDATION NEWS Coupon book updates! Due to a delivery mistake by USPS a portion of the coupon books were sent to another location. We will have them for distribution by Wednesday Oct. 24 th and the sales contest will be extended to

5 compensate. Don t forget, big prizes are on the line for the top sellers including Disneyland tickets! We ll have them for sale at Boo Bash as well.

9 The Boo Bash is coming up fast! We need additional support in the following areas to make this the best event ever! 1. Donations- Seeking cakes and crafts for our Cake/craft walk and candy for Trunk or Treat Items can be dropped off in the front office (cakes can be dropped off the day of the event) 2. Donations -Items that can go towards the opportunity raffle ie. Gift cards, fun fillers, and baskets. Or an Elite item that is highly sought after. 3.
