1 Clovis, Get Ready to Rock! Tickets for the 2015 Clovis Music Festival are now on sale at or at the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce, 105 E. Grand Ave. August 2015 even quicker hands that create a rhythm section which is precise and exacting. Yet, the new soul of the band comes from a Monica Pacheco who got her start when she was 13 years old as a vocalist in her fathers band. These 5 powerful musicians have come together to create a unified sound of Tejano Music right out of West Texas. The Blackwater Band and Bad Reputation will open for rock star, Lou Gramm at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 12. Cost is $30 for General Admissions. This year marks the 28th anniversary of the Clovis Music Festival, which honors one of Clovis most influential and successful residents, worldrenowned recording artist Norman Petty and his wife, Vi Petty. The event is scheduled to take place Friday-Saturday, Sept At 7 p.m. Friday, local band, Grupo Mezcal will be opening for Latin Grammy award winner, Tejano Singer, Michael Salgado. Reserved Table seating for groups of 8 is $40 per person and General Admission seating is $30. Tejano Singer/Accordionist, Michael Salgado who grew up in West Texas is one of the most recognizable voices in Latin Music. Salgado gained prominence in the mid 1990s by looking back to the Norteno sound influenced by Ramon Ayala and reintroducing Norten/Tejano music to younger generations. He is also well-known for his unique ability to play the accordion with his left hand and upside down. This talent credited him with the nickname El Zurdo de Oro, translated as The Golden Left Hand. Great hits such as Sin Ella, Palomita Blanca, La Media Vuelta, Golondrinas a Cornelio, Mi Chatita, and the number one Tejano hit of 2001, Ya No Voy a Aguantar which won him Tejano Music Awards Best Song of the Year. Then in 2007, Salgado won a Grammy Award for his En Vivo Album. American rock music vocalist and song writer, Lou Gramm s unique vocals made Foreigner one of Billboard s Top 100 Artist of All Time. Hit songs included, Hot Blooded, Double Vision, Blue Morning, Blue Day, Head Games, Dirty White Boy, Urgent, Juke Box Hero, Break It Up, and Say You Will. Gramm also co-wrote two of the biggest Foreigner hits, Waiting for a Girl Like You, and I Want to Know What Love is. They were also the first group to have their first eight singles reach the Billboard Top 20, since the Beatles in In 1987, Gramm release his first solo album, Ready or Not, which was critically acclaimed and a Top Five hit single with the song, Midnight Blue. Later his second solo album, Long Hard Look, successfully brought him a Top 10 hit, Just Between You and Me, and a Top 40, True Blue Love. Blackwater Band, from the high plains of Eastern New Mexico, features five outstanding members, each with a unique sound. Their music is strongly influenced by George Strait, The Eagles, and Elvis. The group opened for Starship in 2010, and some of the band members have helped open for Drifters, Coasters, Lee Roy Parnell as well as Toby Keith. Their dynamic sounds and melodic harmonies is what attracts fans to Blackwater Band. All performances during the Clovis Music Festival will be held at the Curry County Events Center, 1900 Brady Ave. The full schedule will be released in the next couple weeks. The Clovis Music Festival, originated by Norman Petty s widow, Vi, is held annually the first week of September and showcases live music that celebrates the spirit of the Clovis Sound. Nationally acclaimed recording artists appear at the festival every year to pay homage to one of the most influential cities in rock and roll history. Sincerely, Ernie Kos, Clovis Chamber Executive Director Norman & Vi Petty Rock & Roll Museum and the NorVaJak 7th St. Studios open for tours during 2015 Clovis Music Festival Clovis will celebrate the city s rich musical heritage with tours of the Seventh Street Norman Petty Studio and the Norman & Vi Petty Rock & Roll Museum during the Clovis Music Festival, Sept The Norman and Vi Petty Rock & Roll Museum is located at 105 E. Grand Ave. within the Clovis Business Enterprise Center. The Museum will be open for tours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sept There will be a Buddy Holly birthday celebration on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 2:00 p.m. Admission for the museum is $5. The museum is designed to complement the Norman Petty Studios on Seventh Street, where musicians such as Buddy Holly, Buddy Knox, Roy Orbison and other early rock and roll greats recorded their hits. The museum displays working recording equipment from the studios, including the original mixing board that was used from Buddy Holly s recordings. Other items include memorabilia pertaining to the Norman Petty Studios and the artists that recorded there. The museum was included in the "Hall of Fame" during the opening of the museum on Sept. 6, The Norman Petty Studios have previously been dubbed as New Mexico s "best kept secret" and will hold tours from 8 a.m. to noon, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 11 and 12. During the construction period, coined Mabry Madness, the local businesses are suffering greatly. The new modern and colorful layouts make the websites look refreshing and provide easy access to essential information. It is not only visually pleasing, but also more user-friendly and interactive. The domains remain the same clovisnm.org and developclovis.com. The new and improved Chamber website enhances usability for Chamber Members and visitors. Chamber members not only have their own custom page, but they have access to update their own pages by adding events, job listing, news, hours, about (tab with summary of your business), hours of operations, Google map with directions, and links to the business social media. It is a great way for businesses to promote themselves and also control information that visitors will see when they visit the Chamber website. New features also include a live weather widget at the bottom of the home page to keep visitors updated on the weather in the Clovis. Clovis Industrial Development Corporation s new website has many new features including a search function for available real estate commercial and residential in Clovis, Portales, Texico and Cannon Air Force Base area. The new sleek design will make it easier for site selection consultants to conduct a comprehensive search with features allowing them filter the search by buildings, sites, businesses, communities, and then the option of sorting, exporting, and/or printing the results. All commercial properties that are listed with a real estate broker is automatically generated in CIDC s database. If there is a commercial property that is not already listed with a broker, please contact CIDC at to add to the website. The demographics and community comparison pages on the new CIDC website will also help consultants with site selection. The demographics page enables visitors to research Curry County s population makeup, age distribution, race distribution, household income, education, etc. The community comparison page is used to compare the demographics of multiple cities. All these new features make the website more engaging and interactive.
