February 21, 2014 Amanda Baker Page 3 Let s see what s going on in this week s Agenda Book, from study tips to historical facts! Monday was President s Day! Unfortunately we could not celebrate due to school. President s Day was established in 1885 in recognition of George Washington s Birthday, but is now used to celebrate all United States presidents. Isn t it a great idea to celebrate our presidents? Verb of the week Disseminate (v) spread Television helps disseminate information through news programs. This word also means to circulate, disperse, or publicize. Study Tip Study for the sake of assimilating and applying knowledge. It is much easier than forcing yourself to learn. This is actually a very good tip to use. What this is saying is that you should really want to understand and learn when you start to study. If you are forcing yourself to study your mind will be elsewhere, and studying will probably not help at all. Your words are the bricks and mortar of the dreams you want to realize. Your words are the greatest power you have. The words you choose and use establish the life you experience. Sonia Croquette Sonia means that the things you say shape your future and who you become. You should think about what you say and choose exactly what you mean because this actually plays a big role in your life. These are very good words to live by.

Editorial February 21, 2014 Alicianna Schmiedebusch Page 4 One of the many rules at Allen East says no eating in classrooms is allowed. Some teachers let students eat but they are not allowed to eat it in the halls. Then there are other teachers that won t let us eat in the classroom. The reason for this is to keep the school clean and not have food everywhere. Some students are responsible and clean up the mess they make but others not so much. Some students eat food but hide their trash in places. Others will throw it away. Some of the teachers are nice and let you eat in their classrooms. The teachers will allow you can eat in classrooms but it can be chips snacks or candy. But you can t eat food like fries, pizza or wings. If the teacher doesn t allow eating in the classroom then some kids will do it anyway. Some kids get caught while eating in class. You have to have the teacher s permission to eat in class before you can do it. During class they might say no but like in a study hall they might not care, depending on the teacher. Some teachers even pass out candy as an award or if you did a certain thing then you deserve it. Some of the teachers bring in breakfast in the mornings like donuts, toast or little debbie cakes for their homeroom to eat. The point here is that there are good things and bad things about eating in classrooms. Eating food when you re not allowed can get you into trouble. But it s fine if the teacher says its fine for you to eat in their room. It all depends what s going on at that time or if they are nice enough to let you eat in the class but trusting you to throw away your trash or pick up your own messes. If you don t do that then the teacher might let the students eat in their class anymore because they students didn t clean up after themselves. So just one kid or two could ruin it for the rest of the students.

February 21, 2014 Bren Emerson Page 5 There is a lot happening in the Allen East art world right now. Not only have a few students been accepted into an art college, but the Art Club also has a lot of things stirring up at the moment. So for this edition there will be some multi-tasking! Below you will be able to discover an exclusive interview with Amanda Baker and how she got accepted into a college all about art and advertising, but it does not stop there! For the price of one edition you also get an overview of what the Art Club is doing! It is an amazing two in one deal! Enjoy. Q: What college did you get accepted into? A: I got accepted into the School of Advertising Art in Kettering, Ohio. I picked it because it is a great school and it is small. An added bonus is that it has everything I need for the career I want. Q: How was it finding out you had been accepted? A: Well I was accepted right after the interview and I was extremely happy. I actually ended up crying and received a hug from one of the instructors there. Q: Are there any other schools you would prefer to go to? A: No, SAA is definitely the school for me. I had planned to go to UNOH but after the visit I knew SAA was the one. Q: What career do you want to go into? Why do you feel SAA is a good choice for that? A: I want to go into photography and the school has an amazing class with a great instructor. Q: Is there anything else you would like to add? A: You had better get my autograph now because I ll be famous soon. There are two major things that the Art Club is doing at this very moment. Not only are they having exciting meetings going on each week where they plan their events and use of artistic skills, but they are also planning great little items for the club! At the previous meeting that was held on February 17, Amanda Baker was in charge. In her meeting she got the group to start a great project. They are teaming up with Mrs. Miller and creating pretty and decorative signs to promote the Junior/Senior Play that will be coming up soon. Watch the halls for more information when the signs are posted! The club is also planning to sell t-shirts very soon as a fundraiser for the club. The t- shirts were designed by the club s own members. While there is not much information on the sale, more should be coming soon. The founders of the club and Mr. Rose, the teacher responsible for the club, are working out all of the details in selling the beautiful shirts that have been created!

February 21, 2014 Bren Emerson Page 22 On Monday, February 17, the SADD team had a successful event for the parents of the community. It was an event they performed last year dubbed the Reality Party. It is a staged party where the students of SADD as well as a few other volunteers show parents what really goes on during a teenage party when alcohol and drugs are involved. The set-up of the party is simple with different scenes playing out as parents are led through the house by two hostesses. The scenes depict a variety of events that would or could happen at an average party when parents are not around. At the end of the tour, parents are taken to an empty room where they can ask a few of the teenagers questions as well as emergency personal who deal with the aftermath of parties on occasion. Most of the parents are curious as to the events that really go on at a party. They ask things about how they can prevent such events and so on. There was even a tour set aside for teachers to come and view the reality party directly after school. The overall crowd of the reality party was a very good crowd. There were hardly any empty slots by the time the SADD team actually started performing. Even with the icy, terrible weather many of the parents came out to view the spectacular acting of the team. Below you can read about some of the events that happened during the fake party as well as some of the people who were a part of the staged party. When the party began parents were led in, seeing a scene that depicted how easily children could lie to their parents. Immediately after that a cool mom took the teenagers keys to keep them safe. After all, if they were going to do it anyways, they might as well do it under supervision. Facts were read off by some of the nearby students about how that was a dangerous thought process and could result in multiple fines. The next couple of scenes moved quickly, from someone saying they were not going and then getting pressured into playing beer pong. The scene then moved into a large dance party where the students encouraged a girl to lift her shirt. It was to be understood the nearby students where sending the picture out to all of their friends. Next there was an argument between a boyfriend and girlfriend which resulted in the boy leaving with his spare keys even though he was visibly drunk. After that attention was directed to another boy carrying off a girl who was too drunk to function while the rest of the party cheered him on. Parents were then directed down the hall to where one girl was suffering from alcohol poisoning while a group was smoking pot in the same bathroom. The parents were then returned to the main section of the house where they revisited the girl who had been carried off and watched her reaction to waking up. Afterwards the girl from the bathroom emerged to drink more before passing out on the floor. The students around called 911 before a fight broke out between two of the girls. Eventually emergency medical arrived and the party disbanned.

September, 2013 Destiney Goble Page 23 This girl may seem like a regular girl in the hall, but she is way more than that. She is a junior this year. She is involved in many things. The sports she plays are softball and volleyball. She can t wait to continue her sports throughout her high years and she also wants to continue to play when she reaches the college levels. Q: What is your favorite thing about volleyball? A: My favorite thing about playing volley ball is becoming closer with my friends. Q: How long have you been playing volley ball? A: I have been playing since 6 th grade. Q: How is your junior year of volleyball going? A: Good, we started off slow but now were starting to work as a team and get some big wins. Q: What is your team s record for this year? A: We are 8 and 5. Q: Do you wish to continue playing volleyball after you graduate? A: I would like to, but it depends on how college is going. Q: What is your pre game ritual? A: My team all gets in a circle and we sing The Pump It Up song. Q: who is your favorite person to play volleyball with? A: I like playing with everyone on my team. We all get along and have a great time together. Q: What do you do to get ready for games? A: I usually just hit volleyball around and get warmed up but mostly get pumped up. Q: What position do you play? A: I play middle hitter. Q: Is there anything else you would to add? A: Yes, Come out and support us and help us get some great wins.

February 21, 2014 Amanda Baker Page 24 The polls question this week, in honor of the 2014 Winter Olympics, is If you could create a new Olympic sport, what is one you think you could take gold in? Mr. Rose- I would win gold in being awesome. Madison Rex- I would get gold in talking fast and loud. Mrs. Miller says I m really good at that. Mrs. Miller- I would win gold in walking across a slippery parking lot in heels. Audra Dray- I could definitely win gold if loving John Stamos was an Olympic sport. Mr. Mattevi-I d win gold in being tired, and getting a second wind to face the day. Bren Emerson- If staying up for days was an Olympic Sport I would get on the podium. Rachel Ernest- I m really good at Tic- Tac-Toe. I cheat. Sydney Delgado- Parking too close to Breanna Nestor is something I would win gold in. Jillian Plaugher- I would win gold in doing people s nails really amazingly. Taylor Clum- I would beat Cody Stout in dunking Oreos in milk. Andy Kill- I would eat Tabasco cheez-its for the win. Cody Stout- I would win gold in eating Oreos.

February 21, 2014 Bren Emerson Page 25 My favorite song at the moment is Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus. Granted, this song has been through many controversies because of the music video, but I really really like the lyrics of this song. I feel like the song is filled with a ton of emotion. It s a good song to listen to whenever you re having a good or bad day. My favorite person in the whole planet is my mom, but I m going to write about my second favorite person. (My first favorite in the school) It s Ms. Downey!! It all started with the jolly ranchers. She bought my love. Then, the purple hair got me. I want to be Ms. Downey when I grow up. Have you seen what she wears? She has better style than any one of these kids walking around. I can name countless reasons why I love her, but I just have this tiny little square. She s the best!!! Amanda Baker There are so many different kinds of food to choose from. Out of all the food my favorite is Italian. My mom is full blood Italian therefore all our meals are Cajun, or Italian food. I have some Italian in me and that s why I love to eat it. I love pasta and spaghetti the most and pretty much all kinds of Italian food. I could live off of pasta for the rest of my life and be ok with it. Olive garden is one of my favorite restaurants just because it s all Italian food. You give me some Italian food I will be the happiest girl on this earth. There is so many restaurants and food to choose from and every day I will choose Italian and Olive Garden over all of them any day. My favorite truck would definitely have to be my grandpas 52 Chevy long bed. This is my favorite because it s all-around just awesome. I have also had some very good memories with my grandparents at car shows and just riding around. My grandpa and I also spent a lot more time together fixing it up and cleaning it for car shows.
