3 January 17, 2014 Kenzie Conrad Page 3 Welcome back Mustangs! We all hope you had a great, extra-long break! This week we re going to jump back into things without missing a beat! This week s vocab word is compunction. Compunction is guilt. An example of this word in a sentence would be: The vandals had no compunction for their crimes. EXPERTS say the best workouts encompass mind, spirit and body, making pilates, tai chi, and yoga viable options. The mighty oak was once a little nut that stood its ground. Unknown January 16, 1547 Archduke Ivan IV the Terrible crowns himself the first tsar of Moscow. On January 16, 1547 Ivan had become ruling age and he received his official title. Ivan received his Monomakh s Cap (a symbol-crown) in the Cathedral of the Dormition, which is still located in Cathedral Square of the Kremlin to this day. Once he received his heavily-jeweled and fur-trimmed crown he initiated a new political era. He demanded to be called Tsar of all the Russians although he was barely more than a Duke of Moscow. He stated that he wanted to unite Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. The people quickly followed after this statement and Ivan began bringing Russia onto par with the rest of Europe, in the beginning. However, quickly, his actions became more force than democracy and his soldiers were forced to spend decades fighting. The character corner trait this month is: Diligence. Diligence is careful and persistent work or effort. This week we have a true or false section and a discussion question for the character corner section. T/F I do not give up when something is difficult. T/F I set goals for myself so that I can succeed. T/F I believe I will grow from my failures. T/F If I have determination I may overcome any obstacle. How does diligence help you to become a better person? Do diligent people perform tasks more accurately and efficiently? Throughout your daily routine this question should pop up every once in a while and keep you motivated. If you work diligently then you should be able to perform your tasks completely and be proud of the work that you have done. The outcome should be something worth showing off to others.

4 Janurary 22, 2014 Aubren Davis Page 4 At Allen East we are not allowed to wear holes in our jeans. We should be allowed because it is in style and it is what everyone wears. We are not allowed to wear holes in our jeans because we are showing to much skin is what people would say. I think it should be allowed and this is why. At Allen East we are not allowed to have holes in our jeans that are above the knee. If they are above the knee we have to wear leggings or something underneath so our skin isn t showing. We aren t allowed to wear holes in our jeans because if we can have one hole then people will have a lot of holes and they could be anywhere on their jeans. People could have holes in their back part and their front parts and it would cause people to stare and bring attraction to them that s not needed. I think we should be allowed to wear holy jeans that have holes above the knee. No one would wear holes showing their private parts anyways it s unattractive and uncomfortable. You never even see people have holes showing more than what s needed like their private parts. People just like to show a little skin like their legs or their knees. They don t like to show anything more than that. It s not any different than wearing a skirt. When you wear a skirt most of your legs are showing. When you wear jeans with holes in them that are above the knee at least most of your legs are covered. I don t mind having to wear leggings with my jeans it s just some days it would be nice to just have one layer on instead of two so I don t get so hot. Holes in jeans are in style now and that s what a lot of people wear. I don t see anything wrong with wearing holes I our jeans that are above the knee. If were not allowed to wear jeans with holes that are above the knee then we shouldn t be allowed to wear skirts, or shorts down to the knee. Wearing skirts and shorts down to the knee show more skin then holes in jeans. Jeans with holes cover the front and back of your legs and just show a little bit of skin unlike skirts and shorts. I think we should be allowed to wear holes in our jeans that are above the knee without having to wear leggings or stuff underneath. Students would be a lot happier if we were allowed too. Some teachers even wear holes that are above the knees and they would like it too if we were allowed to wear them. It s what are style is and what people are starting to wear so let us wear holes that are above our knee. If you can t let us wear jeans then just stick with having to wear leggings underneath. Also if you can t then we shouldn t be allowed to wear skirts that show a lot of our skin and shorts that our down to our knees.

6 January 17, 2014 Andrew Kill Page 6 Well now that brass is over the concert band has slowly been taking over. But the one thing concert band didn t know about was that pep band is still here. You see the pep band playing their heart out to the basketball team every home game. They play many songs every week and we decided to go a little bit deeper and find out what kind of songs they play. A lot of the songs are familiar sounds but the pep band has started getting creative and giving some new sounds and to keep you updated we went and got all of the new pep band music. So if you want to see what they are playing then continue reading in this direction. The pep band has done a great job at keeping the crowd alive. They have also done a great job at keeping things fresh. You will here them play songs like WE GOT THE BEAT, SHOUT IT OUT, AT THE HOP, OLD TIME ROCK AND ROLL, BARBARA ANN and TEQUILA. But now the have added some new music to their disposal, such as 19 th NERVOUS BREAK DOWN, SHOUT, CUP OF LIFE, LAND OF A THOUSAND DANCES and HOKEY POKEY. 23 January 17, 2014 Bren Emerson Page 24 This week for Ms. Advice it is I, Bren Emerson, who is giving advice to all of you pour and unfortunate souls out there. I hope that my answers will cure all of your troubles and perhaps give you useful information you never knew you needed. So shall you take a looksee into the abyss of advice? Dear Ms. Advice, I m so awkward when I m getting out of my car and everything is falling out of my arms. I even look awkward in pictures! I m sure I look like the weirdest little duckling at all times but those are the two when I m the most self-aware. Please Help. I Am The Awkward Penguin Dear Awkward Penguin, Oh me, oh my! Well, not being awkward is a difficult task to undertake but there are a few ways to assist with the feeling. I could ramble on how you could organize your things before you get out so everything isn t jumbled but rather you just pull it all out in one swift and confident move, but I have better advice. Embrace the Awkward!!! Really! It s the best thing you could ever do. Stop worrying about what everyone else is thinking and make yourself even more awkward. Even in photos! Just look your most awkward and unsocial. You will eventually grow out of it into a beautiful and not awkward duckling and then you will find your own people who are amazing and will accept you for your awkward stage. Good Luck! Dear Ms. Advice, My boyfriend loves to play video games but I am terrible at them. I want to do something he likes to do with him though, what should I do? Sore Loser Dear Ms. Advice, My friend in art always does the same things that I do. I get so annoyed because I worked really hard for those ideas and she just copies. What can I do? Not The Copy Cat Dear Copy Cat, Most artists look at something and get inspired by what they see so they base art off of something similar. It can seem annoying that there are people doing the same exact thing as you but they never really are. Each artist puts their own spin and idea on something. If everyone was told to draw their own elephant each one would have a different twist to it. Your friend sees what you do and gets inspired by your ideas to do her own version of that. Don t get annoyed by this friend, rather be honored she is taking your ideas and putting them into her artwork. That means you must be a great artist! Good Luck! Dear Sore Loser, That is quite sweet of you to want to do something like that for your boyfriend. Honestly, it doesn t matter what skill level you are, he will quite enjoy playing with you and even go easy on you so that you may win. But if you want to look good and try to impress him with your playing skills try practicing on your own time. Or perhaps you could play a racing game because as long as you aren t a baby, you can win at a racing game after a couple of plays. Just never play Mario Kart. There are no friendships in Mario Kart. Good Luck!
