1 P lacement Placement in s Company is based on following criteria: technique, potential, commitment level, enthusiasm, attitude and behavior in class, attendance and age presence. Company members are placed based on ability, yle and overall look, n ot on age or class level. We place udents toger in groups that we feel will work be toger in rehearsal and performance. C ompany members are chosen by Miss Carrie and inructors, and will be invited into appropriate Company Class. Judges & Miss Carrie look for following things during audition and throughout dance year when choosing company members- 1. P ositive attitude in class. If you were not a hard worker in la season s classes, your applicatio n will not be considered. 2. G ood class attendance during la dance year (5 absences or less from each class). 3. ability to pick- u p dance combinations quickly and remember m from week to week. 4. S trong overall technique and lines 5. ability to take c orrections from teachers and choreographers and apply m to your dancing 6. G ood poure and alignment 7. T iming and musicality 8. P ower and rength 9. F lexibility 10. S trong expression and presentation while performing in udio and on age 11. For parents- accounts mu be up-to-d ate As we begin choreography, Staff may find a udent is not properly placed or we may find that we need an additional dancers for one routine or less for anor. Please r espect our decisions regarding placement. A ll company placeme nts rema in tenta tive thr u e nd of September. C lass placeme nts be fi nal a s of Oct ober 1 s t. A ttendance & Time Commitment A dance company is a team. Ju as sports teams require all players to attend practices, dance companies require ir a ttend all classes and rehearsals. Absences will hold back not only individual dancer, company as a whole. dancers to E ach dancer is allowed up to 5 absences from Company classes and rehearsals from September- May. A maximum of t wo absences will be allowed January- March. This is art of our competition season and it is important that whole team rehearse toger e very week during se months. rs who miss more than 5 company classes may be removed from Company. rs who miss more than 2 classes January- March may be asked to sit out a competition or removed from Company. This applies to m edical absences as well as or reasons. requires consient ongoing training, and dancers who miss several classes due to i llness or injury, or any or reason will not be able to compete at same level as those who have attended classes regularly. Junior and Senior Company members are required to take a minimum of 3 one- hour dance classes per week as well as ir a ssigned Company rehearsals. dance company members (except mini-c ompany) are required to attend one Ballet class and one Company Ballet class each week, a s well as one Jazz class. T ap Company members only also required to take a Tap class. rs who a re only in Tap Company may opt to attend Company b allet class only. y are not required to attend an additional weekly Ballet class. Ly rical Company members are required to take one weekly lyrical or contemporary class in addition to ballet and jazz r equirements. Mini- Company members a re required to attend one ballet class and take class in Jazz and Tap (combo class or one hour Jazz and T ap classes). y also will need to attend ir weekly company rehearsal. ** L yrical or Contemporary classes are rongly recommended for all Jazz company dancers. trend in Jazz dance is towards a m ore grounded contemporary yle and our dancer s need to be training in both se disciplines to be competitive.* * 1
2 Attendance in core classes- Company Ballet, Ballet, Jazz, Tap & Lyrical or Contemporary will also be monitored. Company members may not miss more than 5 meetings of any one of ir core classes from September- May. rs who miss more than 5 m eetings of any one core class may be removed from Company. A ll Company members mu be present in all core classes (not ju company class) rehearsals week prior to every performance and competition. y also mu be in attendance for ir Company B allet and Company classes week after each competition. P lease do not consider being a part of Company if missing a trip to mall with your friends is going to be an i ssue, or if you expect scheduling conflicts with or sports or activities. Regular attendance in all dance classes is expected of D ance Company members. More than 5 absences from any one dance class may be cause for removal from Compan y. Company will attend 2-4 competitions and performances throughout year. Please be aware that becoming a c ompany member will obligate you to se performances and competitions. competitions are held on weekends and are a FULL DAY and possibly A FULL WEEKEND COMMITMENT. competition management does not send performance time and day information to conteants until 5-7 days prior to competition. So you will need to be available for entire weekend until we k now wh er you are dancing on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or all three. Weekly rehearsal times may be changed after choreography is set. rs may be asked to rehearse on Fridays and Saturdays with o r company groups. This will allow us to have or inructors critique dances and offer corrections and use dancers' time more efficiently. After choreography is set, many groups don't require a full hour of rehearsal. Students and parents will be notified o f any changes to rehearsal times at lea one week prior to date. Miss Carrie will make be efforts to schedule rehearsal time c hanges well in advance. Company dancers mu be available on Friday afternoons/ evenings and Saturday mornings. I agree to enroll in all required classes and to attend all Company classes, rehearsals, competitions and p erformances. I underand that excess absences may result in my not being able to participate in an event or e ven removal from company. I do not anticipate scheduling conflicts with sports or or a ctivities. S ummer dance company dancers are required to attend at lea one weekly dance class during s summer dance session. T he Performance Workshop does not fulfill this requirement. Ongoing training is an important part of a dancer s development and taking 8 or more weeks off from dance over summer ops ir progress. We want our team to be be and that means our d ancers should be training at lea 11 m onths out of year. I agree to fulfill summer dance requirement at C orner. C ourtesy and Respect B eing a member of Company is a privilege. Company members will be held to highe andards of conduct. Company members mu show courtesy and respect to teachers and or udents at udio. Any udent who exhibits repeated d isrespectful behavior to teachers or or udents will be asked to leave Company. I agree to treat all teachers and udents with courtesy and respect. Dress Code & Class Preparedness Company members mu wear appropriate dancewear to every dance class. Forgetting dancewear, shoes, hair being down and/ o r wearing inappropriate clothing will not be tolerated. dress code for Company is as follows: S olid colored leotard and pink, black or tan tights Black jazz pants or form-f itting shorts are opti onal for jazz and tap and mu be approved by inructor. B allet Skirts (optional) NO T-S HIR TS, SWEATSHIRTS OR BAGGY PANTS. Team Jackets are not to be worn during class. H air mu be securely pulled back for every class. B uns are required for all Com pany Ballet classes. A ppropriate shoes are required for ballet, jazz or tap. 2
3 Company members are required to have Bag. This bag should hold a ll ir dance shoes, any or supplies y need for class as well as se required items- Hair S upplies h air brush b obby pins e laic hair bands h air nets h airspray One pair extra pair t ights ( an extra leotard and pair of dance shorts are good to have too, but not required) A notebook and pen or pencil to record choreography and corrections T he Dan ce aff may ask for additional items to be added to dance bags as season progresses. D ance Company dancers should always bring ALL THEIR DANCE SHOES with m for every class and rehearsal. A ll Company members are required to have a current team jacket and wear it at all competitions and team events. J ackets are available for purchase online at.com I agree to be prepared for every class as this dress code guide ates: hair back, appropriate dancewear and s hoes and b ring a dance bag holding required items t o every class and event. I will wear my j acket to all competitions and team events. & Student initials: F inancial Company members mu pay a seasonal fee (for Sept- May) based on number of companies y dance with. seasonal fee for each additional company is discounted- One company- $ 360/ season or $40 monthly (Sept- M ay) Each additional company- $ 234/ season or $26 monthly (Sept- M ay) *** company participation fee is not subject to any discounts and will not be prorated or adjued for missed classes or r ehearsals. This is a fee to participate in Company, it is not based on class hours like regular class tuition.*** T uition for Company B allet class is calculated based on our regular class fee schedule. Competition entry fees vary depending on size of group and which competition we attend. A general example is: $40- $50/ dance. se fees are per person and mu be paid no later than 1 of month before competition date. A $10 late charge be added to your account for all late entry fee payments. Coumes could range from $60-$ 80. Not all groups will be required to purchase an additional coume for competition. We do our be to keep co of coumes down, but this is competitive and it is important that our dancers look ir be. Coume choices f or each group will be based on inructor/ choreographer s vision of dance. A specific shoe color for each Company g roup may be required at beginning of each dance year. Miss Carrie and inructors try to avoid changing shoe colors every year. To ensure that all Company members have same yle and color shoes, C ompany members mu p urchase ir shoes from or anor approved brand of shoe. If you purchase s hoes on your own without checking with Miss Carrie fir, you may end up having to buy an additional pair of shoes to match re o f team. I underan d financial obligations and know what to expect as a member of Company. /Director and Parent/Teacher Communication I f ever you have a queion or concern we encourage you to contact u s directly via at info@dancecorner.com or by leaving a message in udio.
