1 The View from Above Newsletter for the Sacramento Tall Club July-August 2017 In this Issue: From the Editor... 1 From the President (Bob s Babblings)... 1 What s Happening, STC?... 2 Upcoming STC Events... 5 Upcoming TCI Events... 7 Contact Us:... 8 From the Editor Hello Talls! I hope everyone survived the heat wave. Yours truly barely survived camping in it, but I m still here. Speaking of which, I am still looking for a successor to this position. If you re interested please let Bob and me know so we can fill you in on what s involved. That s all for now! From the President (Bob s Babblings) Now that summer is roaring in like a furnace... Some Sacramento Tall Clubbers are heading to Portland, Oregon, for this year's Tall Clubs International convention. We always look forward to meeting old and making new friends. Thanks to convention, those who go make friends from all over the USA, Canada and elsewhere. Convention is a great example of how TCI can broaden your range of tall friends. Back in Sacramento, we have a full schedule of activities for your enjoyment. One Concert in the Park has been postponed due to the weather, but more are to come. Bring a lawn chair and get ready for some great music, and it's free. Patty has been working hard to have a great slate of Tall Activities for Tall people. Check out the web page or Meetup.com for the most up to date full list of our activities. Speaking of your club officers (ok I wasn't), we are coming up on elections soon. I invite you to get involved in the business of making STC work. It is great helping to making this club work. Talk to or me or any officer concerning how YOU can get involved. There is a list of officers elsewhere in this newsletter. Stand tall and keep looking up. Bob Huggett President, Sacramento Tall Club president@sacramentotallclub.org Officers Reports Balance as of last business meeting: TREASURER S REPORT Total Balance Membership Scholarship Marfan $ 6, $ 1, $ $ Marketing: MeetUp, Facebook, and Yahoo are the ways to suggest events and see what is already on the calendar. The MeetUp calendar is also duplicated on our Web Page at Check these web locations for activities. Do feel free to suggest to people of height you meet on the street or in the store to visit our sites and see what we are doing. 1 P a g e
2 The View from Above July-August 2017 Membership: We currently have 13 prospects: keep handing out business cards and encouraging people to join us! (Feel free also to share this newsletter to promote the club. It s been designed with that use in mind. ed.) Publicity: We re always looking for ways to get the word out about the club. Remember to keep a couple of business cards with you and handy to hand out at a moment s notice. (And write your name on them so prospects can remember who told them about the club and have a personal contact. ed.) If you have any ideas for any new publicity events or activities, please contact me or suggest an event on MeetUp. The web activity is the window for the world to see what we are doing. A Plea from Your Social Chair: Patty is always interested in what events the membership would like to see scheduled. We need suggestions for TGIF s, Mid-Month Dine Outs, Dinner & Movie locations, Business Meeting locations, etc. We need hosts for some of our annual events. Please consider hosting events outside of your home. If there is something you are going to do that you think other people would be interested in, suggest it on MeetUp and we will put it out to the membership to respond. If you have any questions, or need help with MeetUp, please let your social chair know. She can be contacted at home on , cell or at social@sacramentotallclub.org. What s Happening, STC? Giraffe News There ve been more births in the world of America s giraffes! Tufani, an endangered giraffe at Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo, has given birth to her first calf. It's the first calf to be born at the zoo in three years, staff says. The female calf was born at 4:03 a.m. Tuesday, June 20th. Per the Zoo s website: Tufani started showing 'impending signs of birth' in late May. The zoo announced that Tufani and her mate, Dave, were expecting in March. Tufani, 8, is a rare breed of giraffe and is on the endangered species list. The newborn will share the giraffe barn with Tufani, her aunt, Olivia, and her father, Dave. More information, plus photos and videos, are available on the zoo s blog page: Tufani's baby girl And in Dallas, Katie gave birth to Tsavo, a healthy male calf, on Tuesday, May 30, at approximately 1:45 p.m. Per the Zoo s Facebook page: As of Thursday morning, when our veterinary team conducted a well-baby checkup, the almost 6-foot baby weighed in at about 150 lbs. They're both doing very well, with the (big) little guy spending his first few days learning to nurse and following mom. WATCH the FULL VIDEO of the calf's birth and first tender moments with mom on YouTube ( and read our latest blog post ( for more details! Katie and Tsavo 2 P a g e
