1 The View from Above Newsletter for the Sacramento Tall Club May-June 2017 In this Issue: From the Editor... 1 From the President... 1 What s Happening, STC?... 3 Upcoming STC Events... 3 Upcoming TCI Events... 7 Contact Us:... 9 From the Editor Hello Talls! I ve noticed something odd about our club. Although our membership roster shows over 75 people with paid memberships, I usually see only the same faces at our gatherings. We have a LOT of fun, local events lined up for the next two months, and I hope those of you who seldom if ever attend will consider coming out for something! Yours truly enjoys the TGIFs as it provides a chance to hang out and relax with my Tall friends. But I m also looking forward to Wine and Brew at the Zoo, and the Guinea Pig Gourmet Party. These promise to be amusing and should result in some great photos and stories to share at future events like Convention! Weekends hosted by other clubs are also a great time! We get to meet new people, visit new places, and dance with people whom we can look in the eye. Ladies: imagine dancing with a man on whose shoulder you can actually lay your head! And gentlemen, think about all those lovely tall ladies who need dance partners! So check out the Upcoming Events lists and consider spending time with us! From the President Tall greetings to all of us of UNUSUAL HEIGHT. Sacramento Tall Club just celebrated our 35th anniversary with a great dinner/karaoke/dance event at Frasinetti's Winery in South Sacramento. If you were there, thank you for coming out and celebrating with us. I was recently shown the Articles of Incorporation for the club. This document, was filed with the Secretary of State back in the formation days of Sacramento Tall Club. I want to share some excerpts from that document. WE, the men and women of unusual height, do hereby join together to incorporate this organization in accordance with the Nonprofit Mutual Benefit Corporation Law and do hereby adopt these Articles of Incorporation. The specific purposes for which this corporation is formed are: 1. to present opportunity for social contacts between its tall members 2. to find greater understanding of our common problems as tall people 3. to band together to solve our common problems as tall people, and 4. to promote further and continue on many mutual interests as tall people. I believe that we still uphold those purposes today in the Sacramento Tall Club. The document closes by indicating the first directors. You may know some of these names, or you may not: Susan Carone, Donna Miller, Joey Deaver and Ruby Quigley. We had the pleasure of having Susan (Carone) Kirkpatrick join us for the Anniversary Party. 1 P a g e

2 Kae Sumner Einfeldt started forming tall clubs some 79 years ago. She would have been 101 years old this May. Tall Clubs International pays tribute to Kae whenever we can. It was her dream that we could get together to celebrate being tall, making tall friends and working for the good of all tall people. So I encourage you to raise a glass to Kae on the first Sunday in May and say thanks. Sacramento Tall Club will do just that on May 7. Check our events schedule on the main page of our web site: Personally, when we are together as a group, I don't feel unusually tall. I hope that each of you people of unusual height, find time to come out and join us for an event or two this month. Standing UNUSUALLY TALL! Bob Huggett President, Sacramento Tall Club president@sacramentotallclub.org Officers Reports Balance as of last business meeting: TREASURER S REPORT STC Membership Scholarship Marfan $8, , , Marketing: MeetUp, Facebook, and Yahoo are the ways to suggest events and see what is already on the calendar. The MeetUp calendar is also duplicated on our Web Page at Check these web locations for activities. Do feel free to suggest to people of height you meet on the street or in the store to visit our sites and see what we are doing. Membership: REMINDER: STC membership fees were due March 31 st. If you did not submit your membership fees, please submit them as soon as possible to: Sacramento Tall Club, P.O. Box 515, Rancho Cordova, CA We currently have 15 prospects: keep handing out business cards and encouraging people to join us! (Editor s note: feel free also to share this newsletter to promote the club. It s been designed with that use in mind.) Publicity: We re always looking for ways to get the word out about the club. Remember to keep a couple of business cards with you and handy to hand out at a moment s notice. (And write your name on them so prospects can remember who told them about the club and have a personal contact. ed.) If you have any ideas for any new publicity events or activities, please contact me or suggest an event on MeetUp. The web activity is the window for the world to see what we are doing. A Plea from Your Social Chair Patty is always interested in what events the membership would like to see scheduled. We need suggestions for TGIF s, Mid-Month Dine Outs, Dinner & Movie locations, Business Meeting locations, etc. We need hosts for some of our annual events. Please consider hosting events outside of your home. If there is something you are going to do that you think other people would be interested in, suggest it on MeetUp and we will put it out to the membership to respond. If you have any questions, or need help with MeetUp, please let your social chair know. She can be contacted at home on , cell or at social@sacramentotallclub.org. 2 P a g e

We can either trade em or burn em but have yet to have a recipe that was such a disaster that we had a bonfire. Tall people are such great cooks! Now listen, EVERY YEAR some folks whine (and you know who you are) about not being able to cook but can they come anyway. NO!!! Other folks tweak the recipes they found and that s a no-no too. We ALL routinely tweak recipes but this is about the challenge of FOLLOWING THE RECIPE TO THE LETTER. RSVP on Meetup and let Steph know which category your dish fits best: appetizers, salads, mains, veggies, or desserts. Got questions? Call Steph and/or need directions? Cost: Members $10 with dish, Non-members $12 Bring a main dish and get in for $5!!! 1st time Prospects: FREE Soft drinks will be provided. BYOB as usual. All proceeds benefit the STC Scholarship Fund. Guinea Pig Update: If you haven't done this before, here's the scoop: 1. Pick a recipe you've NEVER MADE BEFORE and FOLLOW THE RECIPE EXACTLY - No substitutions or "tweaking" allowed! This is the hard part. 3. Bring your creation and a couple copies of the recipe and we'll either trade 'em or burn 'em. Disasters are welcome! 4. No dish = no come!! 5. PLEEEEZE pick a category beforehand and let us know so that we can get a variety of dishes. Categories are: Appetizers, Salads, Mains, Veggies, Desserts. Keep it simple or get wild & crazy with it - Your Choice. (BTW, rolls & butter are NOT a dish... ;-) 4 P a g e
