1 Syllabus 2019 Royal Berkshire Festival of Dance will be held at Reddam House Theatre (formerly Bearwood College theatre) Bearwood Road, Sindlesham, Wokingham, RG41 5BG, UK Sunday 17th February to Thursday 21 st February 2019 ADJUDICATOR: Miss Janice Fullman Dip LCDD, FIDTA, AISTD Last date for receipt of entries: Thursday 3rd January 2019 OPEN COMPETITION
2 Dear Friends and colleagues, Letter from the Chairman I am very pleased to invite you to join us for the 2019 Royal Berkshire Festival. Our festival will be taking place at the Reddam House Theatre, Bearwood Road, Sindlesham, this year, which was formerly Bearwood College. For those of you who were very sad to leave our former venue: welcome home, following three years of being away! Our competition this year is a qualifier for AED this year, in the Southern Region, so please see the AED syllabus for the criteria for qualification in that competition. We have again agreed to give priority entry to those Berkshire teachers who supported the festival in 2018 and we will accept a similar, but not increased entry this year. We will then prioritise those dance schools from outside Berkshire, who entered in If we then have any availability for additional entries, these will be taken strictly in order of entries received. Our closing date is Thursday 3rd January NB: We will not accept late or substitute entries (other than changes of name in duets, trios, etc) made after the closing date, as this is very disruptive to our scheduling. We expect teachers to try to make sure that all competitors actually dance at the festival, and do not drop out, as it is very disappointing if we have to decline entries, only to find that there would have been space. The Royal Berkshire Senior & Junior Championships will be held during the evening of Thursday 21st February, and we hope that all Berkshire teachers will support this event and encourage their more experienced pupils to enter these prestigious Championships. Please note the additional entry rules for this, which are shown in the syllabus. The Royal Berkshire Festival of Dance has commissioned two new boys solos for the 2019 competition choreographed by Miss Susan Robinson, following the very successful introduction of her two new solos for girls last year. If you require the music and/or detailed plan of the choreography and alignment of these two solos, please let me know by , and I will send them electronically. All our stage and administrative staff have CRB checks, and we also have registered chaperones and first aiders on site. Please note the Child Protection Policy 2019, which must be brought to the attention of all entrants. By signing the entry form, teachers are agreeing on behalf of their pupils to its terms and provisions. The Committee and I are very pleased that Miss Janice Fullman has again agreed to adjudicate our Festival this year. She trained at the Arts Educational School in Tring, and obtained her teaching diploma at the London College. Her former pupils can be found teaching and dancing worldwide. As a BIFF member and senior member of the AED adjudicator s panel, she is a very experienced adjudicator with a wide-ranging understanding of all genres, and is looking forward very much to seeing all the dancers. We are sure they will benefit enormously from her wise counsel and helpful reports. The Festival AGM will be held at lunchtime on Thursday 21stFebruary and all teachers and their assistants, (who are automatically members of the Committee) are warmly invited to attend. Teachers should please ensure that all trophies are returned at the start of Day 1. Thank you. On behalf of the committee I would like to extend our best wishes to you all, and look forward to seeing you and your pupils in February. Jill Baird Chairman Please send a stamped addressed envelope with your completed forms by Thursday January 3 rd 2019 to: Jill Baird, 100 Millbank Crescent, Woodley, Berkshire, RG5 4ER, Tel: or please jill.baird@virgin.net, to receive and return forms electronically by attachment.

Any certificates, medals or trophies are awarded at the discretion of the Adjudicator. Trophies must be returned on Day 1 of the festival. 11. The committee reserves the right to combine or divide sections dependent on the number of entries received and has the authority to make any further regulations or interpret or qualify these rules, or to refuse any entry, as the occasion arises and at their discretion. 12. Teachers are responsible for making sure that these rules and the Child Protection Policy 2019 are read by every entrant. Entry to the competition denotes acceptance of these rules. 13.
