2 Welcome one and all to the Goodwill Dance Comps. The tradition of this friendly, well run old fashioned dance competition goes way back to the 1970s when it was known as Bundoora comps. Since then, 2 families have consistently continued to deliver this festival year after year. We would like to acknowledge and thank Noreen O Farrell and the Anderson family for their tireless efforts over the years, both in front and behind the scenes, to allow young dancers to test themselves with the best. This competition (run under a few different banners) has nurtured and encouraged several generations of young dancers, many who have gone on to have successful careers on the world stage, and many more who have wonderful memories and friendships from their childhood dancing for the sheer fun of it..and aren t they lucky, our children who are healthy enough to be able to do what they love to do, who get the chance to feel the good butterflies and to go out on stage and perform.. We will be awarding medals to our solo place getters along with small cash prizes. We want to reward the efforts of those young dancers who have worked hard to achieve success, but we will also be giving them the opportunity to donate back their prize money to children who are less fortunate. We trust that our lucky children can gain from the feeling of what it s like to give to others not healthy enough to enjoy that onstage feeling.

3 RULES When entering age is to be taken at the 31 st December of the previous year. This is a slight change and means if you were born on any day in 2002 for instance you will be classed as a 13 year old in A novice is a person who has not won a first, second or third place at any dance competition in the style of dance in which they are entering. This is to be taken from 11.59pm on the closing date for entries. In other words if you enter early and then the student wins a prize that puts them open you must notify the committee. Dance troupes must have a minimum number of 6 (it was 5). No vocals are allowed on music track in Song and Dance or Song and Tap sections. The competitor is responsible for appearing in the order they have been programmed. If the competitor misses their number they will be able to appear at the end of the section for a critique only. If the non-appearance is the fault of the festival the competitor will be able to compete. No routines are to be repeated. Competitors are only allowed to appear once in any section. The committee reserves the right to combine sections if insufficient entries are received in any section.

4 Competitors and teachers are not allowed to have had any form of tuition or coaching by the adjudicator after the 1 st January. Summer workshops are not applicable but the committee needs to know. Competitors perform at their own risk. Competitors must still be a student at the school stated on their entry form. If the competitor is a student of more than one school this must be stated on the entry form. In the case of unforeseen circumstances the committee reserves the right to appoint an alternative adjudicator. The committee reserves the right to refuse entry. The committee reserves the right to disqualify anyone in breach of rules including tapping anywhere in the theatre other than on stage. Adjudicators decision is final. No competitor is to communicate with the adjudicator during the festival. Prizes will be presented on stage at the completion of each solo/duo & trio sections. Competitors are asked to stay in costume if possible. Protests are to be made in writing to the committee within 10 minutes of the completion of the section and accompanied with a fee of $20 which will be forfeited if the protest is deemed frivolous.

5 Solo sections Medals will be awarded to all winners of 1 st 2 nd and 3 rd places along with cash prizes. Duos and trios - Medals will be awarded to all winners of 1 st 2 nd and 3 rd places along with cash prizes. Troupe sections ribbons will be awarded to all troupe members. Aggregate trophies will be awarded in all age groups with points awarded as follows: Troupes and Open solo sections 1 st 6 points 3 rd 2 points Duos/ trios and Novice sections 1 st 5points 3 rd 1 point 2 nd 4 points 2 nd 3 points There will be no points awarded for special sections to solo age aggregates, but they will count for the Teachers Aggregate. In the event of a tie a count back will determine the winner. A teacher s aggregate will be awarded to the school gaining the highest amount of points over the entire festival. A Troupe aggregate will be awarded to the teacher gaining the highest amount of points in troupe sections only. Perpetual trophies are to be returned to the committee at the beginning of the following year s festival. Trophies are to be returned in the condition they were presented.

6 Song and dance/tap solos have a 4 minutes time limit All other general solos and duos/trios 3 minute time limit. Tap championship 4 minute time limit Troupes 5 minutes time limit. Video cameras, phones recording devices are strictly forbidden for use in the theatre as this is not only to protect teachers work but to protect all children. DVDS will be available for purchase from a professional company. We will only accept CDS, IPODS and laptops to play music. Please be aware that RW (re-writable) CDs do not play on audio equipment. Cassette tapes are no longer acceptable. Music must be booked in backstage ten minutes prior to the start of the section or the competitor may dance for a critique only. Only teachers and competitors will be allowed backstage (except parents of Under 10 competitors) Competitors acknowledge that by entering this competition their name may be published as a prize winner on Social Media and they understand that photographs may be taken and used for promotional use on Social Media. By entering this competition all competitors accept that they will abide by the rules.
