16 SEAHOLM SIDELINE CHEERLEADING 2015 CONTRACT SEAHOLM CHEERLEADING VALUES Seaholm Cheerleading aims to develop hardworking, passionate athletes whom possess positive attitudes and act with integrity. Through participation in the Seaholm Cheerleading program, young women will develop complementary teamwork and leadership skills. Seaholm Cheerleaders are goal-orientated, uphold strong school spirit, and understand the importance of academic achievement and community involvement. Seaholm Cheerleaders hold themselves to high standards on campus and in the community. ATTENDANCE Cheerleaders are required to attend ALL practices, games, tumbling sessions and any other team related events. All events(practice or otherwise) on the calendar are required. Cheerleaders are allowed 3 excused absences between August 10 th and October 28 th. Exceeding the allowed amount of absences will result in being removed from the team. Extreme circumstances will be reviewed on an individual basis. o Our official season begins August 13 th, alongside all other Fall Sports. Practices prior to August 13 th will not count against your absences. However, please note that these practices are critical to our success as a team at camp and during performances on the sidelines and at halftime. You must communicate to your coach WHENEVER you are missing a practice. No-call no-shows OR unexcused absences are unacceptable and will result in removal from the team. We provide our entire season calendar before the season begins and do our absolute best to keep changes to a bare, bare minimum. Please understand the commitment you are making. Cheerleading is a large time commitment. Be on time. A tardy is defined as arriving 3 minutes past start time. TWO tardies are equal to ONE excused absence. Being in the building or the practice facility but not fully prepared will count as a tardy. Be prepared. o Fully dressed (proper attire, jewelry off, shoes on and tied, hair up, taped, etc.) o You must be taped by a trainer or coach BEFORE practice begins o Bring a water bottle Appointments (including health/doctor/dentist/orthodontist), vacations, jobs, concerts, and transportation issues (unless an emergency situation) are not valid reasons to miss practice. Please plan your schedule accordingly. Illness, school-related commitments and serious family obligations (weddings, funerals, etc.) are permitted but must be discussed with the coach in advance. These will count as one or multiple of your allowed 3 excused absences. If you are in school, you are required to attend practice. If you are ill after school, you must call your coach at least one hour prior to the start of practice. Seaholm Cheerleaders are also required to actively participate in ALL team fundraising activities, such as camp programs and car washes. If you do not attend all practices the week prior to a game or competition your coach reserves the right to not allow you to perform at the following game or competition. Injuries: o Athletes must provide a note from a doctor or be seen by the trainer when injured to sit out o Attend all events in full dress o Do not use your phones or other electronic devices during event o Participate in activities that do not put you at risk for further injury (i.e., if your wrist is injured, you must still stretch your splits, build leg muscle, etc.). 1

17 SEAHOLM SIDELINE CHEERLEADING 2015 CONTRACT Your commitment and dedication are essential to the success of the team. Cheerleading is a TEAM sport. A stunt group with 3 athletes is like a chair with 3 legs. Cheerleaders cannot stunt with 3 out of 4 members of their stunt group. Be present physically and mentally. ATTIRE Cheerleaders must wear white cheerleading shoes, shorts and a tank top or t-shirt to practice. Pants, hoodies or other loose clothing is not permitted as this is a safety hazard. Leggings often result in girls being too hot ; please do not wear leggings. Cheerleaders will not roll their shorts, skorts or skirts at any time. Cheerleaders will not expose their stomachs at practice or at any time they are representing the team. Hair longer than chin length must always be securely pulled back. Fake or long nails are not permitted at any time as this is a safety hazard. Painted nails are permitted at practice but not at games or competitions. ALL piercings, no matter location, visibility, how new they are, etc. must be removed. Cheerleaders will wear different outfits to school and competitions each week. This will be determined at practice by the coach and is not optional. If a cheerleader does not wear the correct outfit to school, the coach reserves the right to sit her from the game. Cheerleaders must also wear proper attire to camps, fundraisers and other cheerleading events. The coaches will advise of this attire as the day approaches. Failure to comply will result in the athlete not participating. Cheerleaders are required to bring their full uniform, shoes, bows and warm ups to every game and competition. Not having the proper uniform can result in sitting out. Cheerleaders must wear the designated team wear, socks, hair style, make-up, etc. at all events. Failure to comply will result in sitting out. If you forget, you sit. Our uniforms and other items are school property. Failure to return items will result in a fine from the school. Athletes are responsible for keeping all issued items clean; they should be returned in the same condition they were issued. A dirty, soiled, ruined, etc. uniform or issued article will result in a fine. We cannot issue this item to the net athlete fairly and it must be replaced. A dirty uniform, outfit, article is not acceptable at games or events and can result in sitting out. THE PRACTICE AND GAME ATMOSPHERE Cell phones are not to be used by cheerleaders or seen by coaches at any practice, game, competition or other cheerleading event. Texting a parent is not a valid excuse for a cheerleader using her cell phone. If a parent MUST contact a cheerleader, they can reach Coach Melissa at (586) or Coach Alexis at (248) If a cell phone is used or seen by a coach, the coach reserves the right to hold on to the cell phone until the end of the event and to enforce a consequence. Side conversations will not be tolerated at practices, tumbling, or games. The coach reserves the right to enforce a consequence for distracting conversations. Cheerleaders are expected to learn all material whether or not they are scheduled to be in the final performance at that time. Cheerleaders are dismissed following all (dance, cheer, opposing teams, etc.) performances during halftime. They must return to the sideline with no less than 2:00 remaining on the halftime clock. Coach discretion may be used during this time. Cheerleaders are dismissed from the game following a team huddle at the end of football play. Coach discretion may be used during this time. 2

18 SEAHOLM SIDELINE CHEERLEADING 2015 CONTRACT Parents, please do not communicate with your cheerleaders on the sidelines during the game as it is distracting to the other cheerleaders and the performance. Please limit your communication to the designated time during halftime. REPRESENTING SEAHOLM & ATTITUDE EXPECTATIONS As an athlete, you represent Seaholm both within the school walls and outside of them. Use good judgment. Even when not wearing your uniform, you are still a representative of Seaholm Cheerleading and Seaholm High School. Public displays of affection of any kind will not be tolerated while wearing a uniform, Seaholm High School clothing or Seaholm Cheerleading clothing. Cheerleaders are expected to respect themselves, coaches, teammates, administration, peers and opposing teams at all times. Gossip, disrespect, drama, etc. will not be tolerated. This expectation applies to social networking, texting, group texting, etc. All athletes are expected to follow all guidelines set forth by the Seaholm High School Code of Conduct. This includes all academic expectations as well as drug and alcohol guidelines. The coaches reserve the right to enforce a consequence, including removal from the team, if these expectations are not met. If it s questionable: don t do it. A positive attitude is critical to the success of a competitive cheerleading team.
