2 PARENT INFORMATION CORNER 2011 Band Trip to Kentucky Wrap-Up Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the volunteers, chaperones, students, bus and truck drivers, Gail and Sue and all those involved with getting us down the road to Kentucky. It was an amazing trip and we did awesome! We are the Grand Champions of the Louisville Kentucky Derby Pegasus parade knocking off a band that had held that honor for the past two years. We had a delightful time despite the cool weather at Kings Island and the issues with some of the hotel rooms. What an awesome experience for our students and parents. We are in the very early stages of our next trip. If you have suggestions, please come to our meetings. We will take in all the possible locations and then narrow them down to one very soon. We want to get a huge jump on funding so all of the band family can attend. Summer Camp Final Report A HUGE THANK YOU to Sue Hartley and Butch, Jane Welch, Tim and Mary Totten, Gary Spadin, Leo Vandervulgt and his amazing brother Joe, Dan Terpstra, Jack and David Vojta, Mark Cosner, Pam Orton, Donna Daly, Jeanette Bredeman, Marlene Zagrossi, Peter McGee and many others for their help in organizing and working this massive event for us. (If I left off your name, I apologize) Your efforts and time away from your family was very much noted and appreciated. Again, we made budget and the folks at 3-Sisters thought we were so organized, professional and got the job done. Way to go! HOURS T-W-F 9-5 Thurs 11-6, Sat 9-1 By Appointment Scott Thulean 404 N. 4 Tom and Ann Geiger 307 W. Walnut Peoria s Balloon Fest Returns to 3 Sisters Park This event is a great way to spend some quality time with your family. It is fun for all ages and again this year, there will be no headaches with the parking due to the fact it is at 3 Sisters Park which we are again running parking. We will need helpers to guide traffic and take parking fees. This year s event date will be released soon. We will send out a charms reminder. It should be less intense compared to summer camp. If you would like to help, please contact Sue Hartley. We would love to see you there! Pork Chop Dinne/Spring Concert/Awards Night Wrap-up This event went extremely well! Thanks to all that helped out and to those that brought in donations. Special thanks to Pam Orton, Mary and Tim Totten, Marlene Zigrossi, Angy Hidden and others for all their efforts. STUDENT INFORMATION CORNER Summer Achievements Our summer activities have already begun with mini camp. Summer lessons and the Tuesday evening rehearsals begin. Many students participated and we were glad to see them working hard to make this a successful year. A head of us is the infamous Claud Elen day s parade. All students are to show up. The band room doors will be open at 12:30 PM and the parade line up is at 1:30 PM near the flagpole of Pearce Community Center. Several of our students will also participate in various music camps at area universities. Congratulations to Cynthia Davis, Tyler Haas, Connor Bogner, Kaitlyn Farris and Michael German for attending these great camps. We hope more will sign up for these camps next year. Get That Music Memorized! Our success relies heavily on your attitude and time commitment to memorize this music. If we wait until camp, we are in trouble. Please begin to memorize small chunks of the music at a time. Carve out about half an hour a day and you will have the entire show memorized before camp, which will mean we can begin to march and play it with more confidence. Fourth St. (309) Mr. C s Comments Congratulations to all the seniors for a wonderful year and we wish them all the best as they begin their next journey on life s path. We hope they can continue to be a part of our program and stop by from time to time to tell us what you are up to. Thanks for the great memories! We would like to welcome all the incoming freshman class. We are delighted to have you and your families become apart of our band family here at IVC. You are more than welcome to join in on all that we have to offer with our band program. We work hard to make this program the best it can be and we would certainly enjoy and welcome all of you to join in and help this amazing program. We are well off and running preparing for next year s show. Our summer rehearsal schedule is in full swing and the students are eager to learn the show. It is requested that students make every effort to come to our Tuesday night rehearsals in June. They are vital to our success. The students that are taking summer lessons or coming on Tuesday evenings are working extremely hard to prepare for our amazing fall season. Lastly, thank you to all the band parents that carved out huge blocks of their family time to make Summer Camp and Country Fest a huge success. It was amazing the stress and work that you had to endure and overcome, but again, you rose to the occasion and got the job done. You are amazing parents and I can t stress to you all enough how grateful we are to have you as band parents. The pride in your performance shined through loud and clear! We continue to march on with the Chillicothe Claud Elen Day s parade on Saturday, June 11 th, at 2:00 pm Hope to see you there to cheer on the 2011 Marching Grey Ghosts! Mr. C Page 8
