2 Become a Sign Warrior! Imagine a Captain Marvel comic style of sign warrior hero that saves the day and foils sign vandalism. This hero protects our signs, keeping our roads safe so that we get home to our families each day. This hero also changes our outlook on the importance of signs and creates a culture of awareness and that saves lives. SAVE OUR SIGNS! Missing or damaged signs can lead to traffic accidents resulting in property damage, injury and death. Many local road agencies (i.e., county, city and township) across the state fight an expensive and constant battle to keep signs in place and in good repair. That effort costs tax dollars and valuable time that could be better spent on other important road maintenance and improvement efforts. Even the best driver can miss a corner or zoom unsafely through an intersection if signs are damaged or missing. We need you to help, become a Sign Warrior today! North Dakota Local Technical Assistance Program Team Rhonda Woodhams, Williams County Highway Department Office Manager, helped create the Sign Warrior calendar project. Thanks to the fouth grade students who participated in our poster contest. Your efforts make this calendar possible and bring out the sign warrior in all of us. These new fourth grade superheroes are helping to get us all home safely every day. Way to go!
3 DID YOU KNOW... The colors of street signs aren t just a coincidence. In fact, color psychology plays a major role in determining how each message catches drivers and cyclists attention alike. For example: Red = Urgent message to pay attention to, such as stop and do not enter Yellow = Permanent hazard areas, such as crosswalks and traffic lights Black and white = Motorist advisories, such as speed limit or one-way streets Blue = Less urgent information, such as a rest stop or dining Green = Travel information, such as a freeway exit number or street name Orange = Temporary hazard area, such as road work and construction Sign shape also plays an important role in capturing drivers attention. Sign shapes and their messages include: Diamond = Curve ahead Square = Caution Rectangle = Speed limit Circle = Railroad crossing Octagon = Stop sign Proudly Supporting Sign Warriors
