7 ALPHABET ZOO INSIDE A SHOE (MUSIC CUE 1: The Old Lady s Shoe ) ALL There was an old lady who lived in a shoe. She had so many children, Didn t know what to do. There was so much commotion, So much hullaballoo With so many children living there in that shoe. To the leather they clung As they slid down the tongue. From the laces they swung And the grommets they hung. From the toebox they flung And the insole they sprung. What can be done with so many so young? And then one day all the children had grown, And from the shoe all the children had flown. Then the old lady didn t know what to do, Living there on her own, all alone in the shoe. We told her we understand That she s feeling stressed. We told her what we had planned For her empty nest. 1

8 ALL (continued) And then the old lady began to think Of the fun and enjoyment her future could bring. She could go on vacation. We would purchase her shoe As the perfect location for our alphabet zoo. The perfect location for our alphabet zoo. Our alphabet zoo inside a shoe. Our alphabet zoo inside a shoe. Our alphabet zoo inside a shoe. READER: Allie was an alligator, and Andy was an ant. The gator was a skater, but the ant just said he can t. The gator brought some skating shoes she thought the ant would like to use. Ant did a chant and split his pants, And said, I ll see you later, to the skating alligator. READER: Bonnie was a bunny, and Barry was a bear. The bunny was quite funny, but the bear just didn t care. The bunny told some riddles while she played on several fiddles. Bear just stared and combed his hair, But then he shared some honey with the very funny bunny. READER: Carmelita was a cheetah, and Cody was a cow. The cheetah ate a pita while the cow was cooking chow. The cheetah wanted more to eat, and then she found a chocolate treat. Cow wiped his brow and said, Not now! And then gave a fajita to the pita-eating cheetah. 2

9 READER: Dino was a dingo, and Deirdre was a deer. The dingo played some bingo while the deer drank some root beer. The dingo played his fourteenth card, and then he quoted from the Bard. Deer then cheered, I m glad you re here. And gave a pink flamingo to the bingo-playing dingo. (MUSIC CUE 2: I Went to the Zoo Yesterday ) ALL I went to the zoo yesterday. I saw the animals play. The monkeys were swinging. Giraffe ate a leaf. The polar bears swam all around in their reef. I saw pandas, a zebra, a kangaroo, too. That s what I saw at the zoo. I went to the zoo yesterday. I don t live too far away. The bear was climbing up high in the tree. I smiled at the camel who smiled back at me. The lions were sleeping and so was the gnu. That s what I saw at the zoo. 3

10 ALL (continued) The zoo is one of my favorite places. I d go every day if I could. The animals bring such smiles to our faces. The zoo always makes me feel good. You could ask me, Why is it That I like to visit? Here s what I d say to you. Each time I go, I always know I ll find something that s different and new Or familiar and fine. It s terrific each time. That s why I go to the zoo. I went to the zoo yesterday. It was so fun, I must say. The antelopes laid all around in the shade. The deer and the elk stayed right there in their glade. The chimpanzees played And the elephants sprayed At the donkeys who brayed At the dogs on parade While the ducks and geese strayed Past the peacocks display. I went to the zoo yesterday, And I think I ll go back today. I think I ll go back to the zoo today. End of Sample 4
