1 CHRISTIAN WERNER. RING-TURNED ANIMALS Solid spruce toy Ark with basic collection in size 8 * 0150 (LxWxH 50x19x34 cm) The basic collection for the toy ark consists of 12 pairs of ring-turned animals (horses, cows, sheep, cats, pigs, dogs, dromedaries, elephants, giraffes, brown bears, chicken and cockerel, doves). Toy Ark without animals Original form developed in October 1997, new form introduced on 10 February 2006 Single animals from the basic collection. size 8 * Horse 1901, cow 1902, sheep 1903, cat 1904, pig 1905, dog 1906 (from left to right) More single animals from the basic collection can be found on page 8. 2 CHRISTIAN WERNER. RING-TURNED ANIMALS Toy ark. size 8. at play with additional animals * 0150 This illustration shows just a few of the many things you can do with your toy ark such as opening the doors, removing the roof or opening the side of the hull. Smaller animals can climb into the ark via the retractable gangplank and larger animals can walk into the ark on an extendable bridge - allowing them to escape the flood and rescue their species from the rising waters. As you can see, you can add many more size 8 animals to supplement the basic collection. More single animals (page 7 continued) in the basic collection. size 8 Dromedary 1907, male elephant 1908m, female elephant 1908w, giraffe 1909, brown bear 1910, bantam 1911w, bantam rooster 1911m, dove 1912 (from left to right) 8 13 June 1994
3 Additional collection 1. size This additional collection can be used to enlarge the toy ark's animal family and contains one pair each of tigers, okapi, donkeys, German shepherd dogs, goats and white storks (from left to right). (Please turn over for individual animals.) 6 November

9 CHRISTIAN WERNER. RING-TURNED ANIMALS Zoo animals 1 painted. size 8 * 3022 Zoo animals 1 plain. size 8 * 3023 Put together your own collection from the full range of size 8 animals Chip wood boxes The history of the chip wood box is closely linked to toy making in the Erzgebirge. When looking for a simple but sturdy box for their ring-turned animals and figures, the toy makers found the chip wood box was the ideal solution. Originally, they were made by drawing off wide sheets of wood by hand or using a large water-driven slicer. To turn these sheets into boxes, they were than cut and shaped. Some were also richly decorated. We prefer to use fir to make the oval or round chip wood boxes we currently use. 10
10 CHRISTIAN WERNER. RING-TURNED ANIMALS Pull-along animals * These pull-along animals demonstrate a harmony between the wooden body of the ring-turned animal and the thin slice of wood it is affixed to. The animals are affixed using nails so that the pleasure of playing will not be spoilt by things falling apart. The wheels are made of terracotta (which makes a sound while going along) with an irregular surface and are painted in such a way as to make the animal's motion visible to further enhance the child s enthusiasm and pleasure while playing. Pull-along animals * All size 8 ring-turned animals are also available as small pull-along toys. *
