1 2016 AAU Georgia Baton & Dance Super Regional Championships DIRECTED BY: Candice Dowdy, AAU National Chair Contact Info: (407) Kandi Staples, AAU National Vice-Chair Contact Info: (573) CONTEST DATE: Saturday, June 11, 2016 ENTRY DEADLINE: Postmarked by May 18, 2016 (AAU Awards must be ordered) Entries received after this date will be charged a late fee of $5.00 per event not to exceed $20.00 TIME: Doors open at 7:30 am; Contest will begin promptly at 8:30 am CONTEST LOCATION: East Roswell Recreational Center, 9000 Fouts Road, Roswell, Ga This contest is a qualifier for the 2016 AAU JUNIOR OLYMPIC GAMES IN HOUSTON, TEXAS!! ALL events will be your competitive age as of December 31, AAU MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED TO PARTCIPATE IN ALL EVENTS. This event is licensed by the Amateur Athletic Union of the U. S., Inc. All participants must have a current AAU membership. AAU membership may not be included as part of the entry fee to the event. AAU membership must be obtained before the competition begins except where the event operator has a laptop available with an internet connection. Participants are encouraged to visit the AAU web site to obtain their membership.
2 GENERAL CONTEST INFO: AAU BATON & DANCE RULES: The 2016 AAU Baton Twirling Rulebook and the 2016 Dance Rulebook is available at MEMBERSHIP: All athletes (solo and team) MUST be AAU members and must be able to provide AAU Membership numbers when submitting entry forms. AAU membership MUST BE OBTAINED prior to submitting entry (NOTE AGES 18+: Membership is not instant so please allow several days to process). DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: All entries must be postmarked by May 18, 2016 (Phone/ entries are not accepted) CONTEST QUESTIONS: Candice Dowdy (407) ; or Kandi Staples (573) ; ADVANCEMENT: If you should win prior to this contest and need to advance, you must call or ASAP so we can make the needed changes. All changes should be submitted by April 1, No changes made after April 1. DOOR ADMISSION AND PROCESSING FEES: There will be a $20 facility/processing fee for all performers in solo events; $10 for team members NOT in solo events. No door fee will be charged for spectators; the facility fee will be in place of a door fee. All solo participants should pay the fee with their solo entry; team members NOT COMPETING IN SOLO EVENTS should have their director send in their facility fee with the team entry. Each participant ONLY PAYS the facility fee ONE TIME. PAYMENT: Make checks payable to: Candice Dowdy. All fees due with entries by May 18, $30 Returned Check Fee. No refunds on entry fees or credits to other competitions will be given. MUSIC: All team and solo events that require music (other than standard march music) must submit a CD of your music with your entry form (Cd s will be returned at check-in). You may also a MP3 file to the contest director by the May 18 th entry deadline. Music will be placed on an ipod to be played through the sound system at the contest. Team directors and Solo Twirlers should also bring two back-up copies of your music on a CD to the contest in case a back-up is needed. Music director at contest will be available at 7:45am the day of the contest for individuals and team directors to check their songs on the playlist. Shirts will be available for pickup the day of the contest at the check-in/awards table. Be sure to fill out attached order form and return with entry. ENTRY CONFIRMATION: In order to confirm that we have received your entry and have processed your events in the correct categories, it is imperative to include an address on your entry form. You may use your or your coach s and this will allow us to make any needed changes! TEAM ROSTERS: All directors must submit one roster for each team entry entered. Be sure to indicate if student is a solo competitor and is including $20 processing fee with solo entry or if they are only competing in teams and including $10 with team entries. Rosters should also be provided at on-deck check in for each routine the day of the competition. CHANGES TO ENTRIES: The contest director reserves the right to make any changes necessary. No changes by contestants may be made once an entry is received. ONLY errors made by the contest director will be corrected the day of the contest. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED THE DAY OF THE CONTEST. PROGRAM BOOKS: Programs will be sold for $5.00 each at the check-in/awards table. All solo participants will need a program in order to know lane assignments. PROGRAM ADS: Parents, Coaches, Fellow Twirlers/Dancers can purchase program ads that will appear in our 2016 Program Book. Ads should be submitted with pictures and payment when entry is submitted. SCHEDULE ORDER OF TEAMS/MUSIC SOLO EVENTS: Routine order of performance for all morning events will be ed to Team Directors or Soloists entered in those events prior to the contest. These will be sent out 4-5 days prior to contest. PHOTOGRAPHY: No flash photography permitted. Failure to comply can result in disqualification. VIDEO TAPING: Video recording is only allowed by parent videotaping their own child or director/appointed person videotaping their own team/student. Failure to comply can result in disqualification. PRACTICE AREA: Athletes may not practice in front of the judges or in any area where there is risk of the baton rolling onto the floor and interrupting the routine of another athlete. Practice areas will be available in the corners of the gym. FOOD: Concession information will be available to all coaches and athletes prior to the contest date. WAIVERS: A waiver must be signed and returned with entry for every participant in the competition (solo and team members). Participants will not be allowed to participate unless a form has been properly filled out and signed by parent/legal guardian/self.

CONTEST PORTION B: Individual Baton Competition (All additional solo baton events). FINAL AWARDS AND PICTURES: Baton Championship Events, Special Baton Solo Awards. All athletes are REQUIRED to be in COMPETITION ATTIRE for each awards ceremony. AAU Dance and Baton Solo/Team Awards for all events that ARE NOT championships will be posted as they are available; pick up awards at head table. Directors pick up team awards. GEORGIA SOLO DANCE CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT AGE DIVISIONS: 0-6, 7-9, 10-12, , COST: $40 TIME LIMIT: 1 ½ min to 2 ½ min max DANCE RULES: Will follow 2016 AAU Dance Rules. See specific solo rules page EVENT INFORMATION: 1. Dancers will perform a routine that is either jazz/lyrical, hip hop, modern/contemporary, or pom in style. 2. Styles of dance will not be broken down for this event. This event will be divided by age only. 3. Dancers should indicate style of dance along with music selection on the entry form. 4. The championship event is NOT a qualifying event for the AAU Junior Olympic Games. 5. Dancers may double enter both the dance championship event and the corresponding AAU Solo Events using the same routine. GEORGIA DANCE TEAM EVENTS NEW DANCE TEAM EVENTS FOR 2016 & TOP 6 DANCE TEAMS IN EACH DIVISION QUALIFY FOR THE AAU JUNIOR OLYMPIC GAMES (excluding adult division) AGE DIVISIONS: 0-6 (Tot ), 7-9 (Juvenile), (Junior), (Senior), College (University/College), 23+ (Adult) TEAM SIZES (All Teams Except Production): Extra-Small (2-3), Small (4-9), Large (10-19), Extra-Large (20+) PRODUCTION TEAM SIZE: 10+ LEVELS: Recreational (no more than 1 ½ hrs in studio per wk), Competitive (more than 1 ½ hrs in studio per week), School Team COST: $10 each person (per routine) AWARDS: Each team member receives a custom AAU medal; results posted; directors pick up team awards TIME LIMITS: 1 ½-3 min (all teams except production); 6-8 min (production) DANCE RULES: Will follow 2016 AAU Dance Rules. See specific team rules page DANCE TEAM EVENTS POM: Teams perform a routine that uses Poms throughout routine. Poms can only be grounded to execute moves that CAN NOT be done with poms in hand due to safety. Gymnastic skills MAY NOT be done with poms in hands. JAZZ: Teams perform a routine that is primarily jazz in technique. LYRICAL: Teams perform a routine that is lyrical in technique. MODERN/CONTEMPORARY: Teams perform an interpretive routine using modern or contemporary movements. HIP HOP: Teams perform a routine using hip hop/funk movements. KICK: Teams perform a routine using a variety of levels/styles of kicks. MUSICAL THEATER/CHARACTER: Teams perform a routine that interprets or portrays a Broadway Show, a Movie Musical, a character from a movie/television show, or real life stereotype (example: nurse, animal, policeman, farmer). NOVELTY: Teams perform a routine that incorporates props in the choreography. All props must follow prop rules and none will be allowed that damage the floor. MIX: Teams perform a routine that incorporates at least 3 of the following styles of dance: Pom, Jazz, Hip Hop, Kick. Poms SHOULD NOT be used throughout the routine. No props maybe used. Gymnastic skills MAY NOT be done with poms in hand. PRODUCTION: Teams of 10 or more dancers that incorporates multiple dance genres to convey a theme through the music or story.

Levels Offered: Novice, Beg, Int, Adv Parade Majorette: Perform Basic, Military Strut, and Parade Strut Highest level of strut determines competition level (Basic score used to break tie). Levels Offered: Novice, Beg, Adv Baton Solo Champion: Perform One-Baton Solo Solo One-Baton determines competition level. Levels Offered: Novice, Beg, Int, Adv Two-Baton Champion: Perform Two-Baton Solo Solo Two-Baton determines competition level. Levels Offered: Novice, Beg, Int, Adv AGE DIVISIONS FOR EVENTS BELOW: Elementary (Grades 1-5), Jr High (Grades 6-8), Sr High (Grades 9-12),Collegiate COST: $40 per event NOTE: Twirlers DO NOT have to twirl for their school line to compete in the following divisions. EVENT AND REQUIREMENTS Elementary, Junior High, Senior High, Collegiate Champion Perform either solo freestyle or solo dance-twirl. Grade student is in for the school year will decide division AAU ALL-AROUND BATON CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT NEW FOR 2016: THIS EVENT IS A QUALIFYING EVENT FOR THE AAU JUNIOR OLYMPIC GAMES. ATHLETES MUST QUALIFY IN THIS EVENT TO TAKE PART IN THE ALL-AROUND CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT AT NATIONALS.
