It is the 30th Anniversary of the beloved film Dirty Dancing starring Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze so we are showing it on a GIANT screen in the rec center parking lot. Whether you ve seen it once or a dozen times, the music and the dancing never gets old! Mark your calendar for this evening of fun! Entertainment, car show and movie are free to attend. BLAST FROM THE PAST PARKING LOT PARTY WHAT A NIGHT MAMMA MIA MEETS THE JERSEY BOYS MUSIC FOOD-CLASSIC CARS-MOVIE Join us for lunch, concert and casino action as we travel to Wild Horse Pass Casino for a full afternoon of fun. Abba Fab and December 63 are past Sun Village favorites and they have come together for one incredible mega-concert! The award winning musicals, Jersey Boys and Mamma Mia, have been seen by over 60 million people. What A Night is a high-powered performance honoring 40 of their most revered chart-topping hits. 15 talented performers will come together when Abba and The Jersey Boys hit the stage as one, in the most sensational musical finale you ll ever see! MEDICARE PRESENTATION BLOOD DRIVE Joe Bedgood, an independent representative, will give a presentation on the changes to Medicare plans for 2018 and answer questions regarding your current plan. The Medicare open enrollment period is Oct 15th thru Dec 7th; this is when you can make changes to your coverage plan. Joe represents all of the Medicare plans offered in Arizona and can answer your questions on the spot. Just show up to get informed! There is a high demand for blood when disaster strikes. YOU can help save lives by donating blood. Sun Village is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a Halloween blood drive. Your appointment will only take about an hour and the actual blood donation time is only about 7-10 minutes. Schedule your appointment at or call Walk ins are also welcome. Free up some space in your closets or garage and sell your unwanted items at our semi-annual Swap Meet. Don t want to sell? Donate your items to the Lions Club to sell. CALLING ALL SHOPPERS we have TONS of beautiful, quality items from 6 different estates, including home décor, holiday items, kitchen items, small appliances and more; all at bargain prices! All money raised by this event will go toward sending challenged individuals to Camp Tatiyee. Table rentals are $10. Sign up now in the Activity Office. To donate your items, contact Charlotte Roth at or Bev McCorkle at for pick-up. COMMUNITY GARAGE SALE Do you have large items you need to sell such as furniture, appliances, vehicle, etc? Do you have more stuff than you can transport? Sell your items at the Community Garage Sale. This is ideal for those who have large items that are not permitted for sale at the Swap Meet. Registration forms are available at the HOA Office, Activity Office and Service Center. Return the completed form to the Activity Office along with your $20 fee no later than Friday, November 3rd. Fee includes advertising, special designation for each participating home and inclusion in map distributed to incoming shoppers. Unauthorized sales will result in a fine. Each seller will receive a copy of the garage sale rules and regulations upon registration. SPUD & SALAD COMMUNITY SOCIAL The City of Surprise will be hosting another Veterans Day Parade which will begin at 9:30am. We encourage you to attend this wonderful celebration. Following the parade, we invite you to join us for a Veterans Day Picnic which will begin at 12PM. The One Heart Trio band will be on hand to entertain guests with live music and karaoke. Attendees are invited to share their talent and sing along with the band. Enjoy a delicious hamburger lunch provided by TOAST Café. Come join us as we honor our men and women in uniform with an afternoon of food, friends and fun! Tickets on sale now. Add a dinner salad and you ve got a delicious dinner and you didn t have to cook or clean a thing! And back by popular demand, the Pie Auction because everybody loves PIE! In addition to hand crafted items, we will be inviting those whose items may contain purchased or non handmade products to join in the fun. The Community Church at Sun Village invites you to a special community wide Christmas event. Enjoy the fellowship and blessing of One Night, One Star, One Child. Doors open at 5:30pm with dinner service beginning at 6pm. The evening program will be from 6pm-8pm, to include special guest speaker Brenda Zigler and music by Rainbow Quartet. Invite a relative, friend or neighbor to enjoy the blessing and fellowship at this lovely Christmas Candlelight Celebration. Purchase tickets at Sunday morning service or in the church office Monday thru Friday, 9AM-12PM. LIGHT UP NIGHT 2017! We will kick-off the holiday celebration with the lighting of the Rec Center Lobby Christmas Tree as special guests, EllaMay, Aubrie, Olivia and Ryanna of the Willow String Quartet delight us with the music of the season. All under the age of 16, these talented young ladies perform all over the valley and will bring their unique blend of holiday classics and fiddle tunes to Sun Village for this special engagement. The celebration wouldn t be complete without a visit from Santa Claus himself. Enjoy hot apple cider and everyone s favorite snowflake cookies provided by Linda Snow with Long Realty, and visit with friends as we light-up Sun Village with holiday cheer! A SURFIN HOLIDAY serves-up some of the most recognized Christmas classics, like: Little St. Nick, Frosty the Snowman, Santa s Beard and White Christmas along with all your favorite Beach Boys tunes including all those stunning harmonies and falsetto sounds you remember. Put up the tree, hang the lights and catch a wave at A SURFIN HOLIDAY a festive concert celebration of surf, sun and Santa. Come enjoy a FUN, FUN, FUN night out for you and yours this Christmas! The Holiday Season will soon be upon us and what better way to enjoy this magical time of year than at the Frozen Fantasy Ball! Put a little sparkle in your holiday and dance the night away to the sounds of Yesterday Once More, a Sun Village favorite from last season, playing a wide variety of music ranging from the Oldies of yesteryear, doo-wop, Motown, Rock & Roll, and more. This band is sure to keep the dance floor moving. Come join us for this fun and festive evening. GOLF CART CAROLING PARADE What do you get when you mix a chili feast, golf carts decked out with holiday cheer and Christmas caroling fun? The second annual Holiday Golf Cart Caroling Parade. Those who wish to be in the parade with their golf cart, are invited to gather for a pre-parade BYOB Holiday Social. Delicious chili with all the fixins will be provided by parade sponsor and hostess, Linda Snow with Long Realty. Instructions and rules will given to parade entrants at this time. To add to the fun entrants are encouraged to decorate their golf carts for the occasion and we will award a prize to the cart with the Most Holiday Spirit. The parade will begin at 6PM. If you would like to enter your cart in the parade, please sign up in the Activity Office. To ensure traffic safety, space is limited to the first 60 carts. For those wishing to see, hear and sing along with the caroling parade as it passes, parade maps will be available in the December issue of Pieces of Paradise and in future eblasts. SO THIS IS CHRISTMAS A HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR! Christmas is the most joyful time of the year and nothing celebrates the holiday as big and as bold as "So This Is Christmas!" There will be Christmas songs, Christmas trees, a stage full of incredible talent, and real snowfall inside the KBR! That's right... we will be dropping snow on our audience (no shoveling required). Celebrate this magical season with classic holiday favorites such as I ll Be Home For Christmas, Jingle Bell Rock, The Christmas Song and many, many more. WEST VALLEY YOUTH ORCHESTRA HOLIDAY RECITAL The West Valley Youth Orchestra Programs offer young talented musicians an opportunity to join their peers for intensive orchestra training and performances in order to increase their music playing ability. Each year, Sun Village welcomes these talented youngsters to the KBR stage and invite you to witness their amazing talent at this inspiring holiday performance. Light refreshments will be served and proceeds will go toward the WV Youth Orchestra fundraising efforts. MOVIE NIGHT CLASSIC FEATURING MIRACLE ON 34TH ST. Join us for lunch, concert and casino action as we travel to Wild Horse Pass Casino for a full afternoon of fun. In early 2016, this group had our audience dancing in the aisles of the KBR in Motown Magic. The show was so popular, we added a matinee performance! The Four Tops, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight and many more favorites are all featured in this festive tribute to the season and the fabulous music of Motown. These guys are so smooth and their moves are so slick they will groove their way right into your hearts in this solid-gold production that is sure to put you in the holiday spirit. The Motor City comes alive with the Motown Christmas concert of the season! First enjoy a delicious meal at your choice of Café 247, Ling & Louie s or the Food Court option. After lunch, you ll have some free time to partake in a little gaming action before the show. Tickets are $25 and include transportation, lunch and the concert. Seating is limited to 56. NEW YEAR S EVE GALA Join your friends and neighbors for the beloved holiday classic film, Miracle on 32nd Street. Whether you ve seen it a dozen times or none at all, this Christmas classic is sure to get you in the holiday mood. An old man going by the name of Kris Kringle fills in for an intoxicated Santa in Macy's annual Thanksgiving Day parade. Kringle proves to be such a hit that he is soon appearing regularly at the chain's main store in midtown Manhattan. When Kringle surprises customers and employees by claiming that he really is Santa Claus, it leads to a court case to determine his mental health and, more importantly, his authenticity. For this special engagement, attendees will enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and holiday cookies. Additional beverages and movie snacks will be available for purchase at the bar. Our holiday classic movie night is proudly sponsored by the Sun Village Pickleball Club. Come join us for this perennial favorite! The Kachina Ballroom is a liquor licensed facility and TOAST Café is the current license holder. Pursuant to Article [A.R.S (39)] It is unlawful to bring alcohol into a licensed establishment, therefore outside beverages are prohibited from being brought into the KBR for any of our performances/dances. Those attempting to bring outside beverages into the KBR are putting our facility at risk. WRITING GROUP The all new writing group had a fun season getting to know one another and sharing stories. The group was established for the purpose of writing down some thoughts about our lives before we forget them. 8 LIONS CLUB October means Lions breakfast meetings resume on the first and third Tuesdays, 8:30AM at TOAST Café. Anyone who is interested in finding out about our activities and projects are welcome at our meetings. Our annual Fall Swap Meet is scheduled for Saturday, November 4th, Donate stuff to the Lions, or rent a table of your own. Attention shoppers we have TONS of great stuff this year! Mark your calendars for the Americana Dance on November 19th, the Pancake Breakfast on January 8th, and the BBQ on February 19th. Please continue to recycle. Did you know that City of Surprise s Recycle Program brings in NOTHING financially to the city? It sends all of its recycle to the City of Glendale s recycle station. In exchange, Surprise does not have to add to their garbage landfill. However, when you donate to the LIONS RECYCLE CENTER in the Main Parking Lot, all money raised from recycling goes for various projects in Sun Village, such as maintaining all the American flags in the Village. CLUB NEWS So, please keep recycling newspapers, paper, cardboard, phone books, aluminum cans and shredded paper in our LIONS RECYCLE CENTER. Eyeglasses and cases, hearing aids, and cellphones can also be recycled in the Service Center as well as the Recycle Center. Let s make CASH from stuff. We appreciate all your support and look forward to another successful year. We hope to see you at some of our events throughout the season! LADIES GOLF Well, it's over again summer that is, and they are drifting back from cooler climates. October is over-seeding month, so while you are getting settled in, the course will be closed. Palm Valley group is still playing on Monday. Call Betty Tolmie at The first monthly meeting is November 2nd at 1:00 p.m. in the MPR. Tee boxes have been improved and the course will be fabulous after over-seeding. We are making plans for another great year and welcome all old and new players. If you are new, we will assign you a sponsor to guide you thru establishing a handicap, course and club rules, etc. Just sign up in the back room of the golf shop. Play will begin at 8 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday and if you are interested, we have a mixed league on Friday, also. See you on the course! MEN S GOLF CLUB You can join our Men s Club for an annual fee of $30. This membership allows you to compete with the club members on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Membership is open to all male Sun Village residents. Various tournaments are held during the year. Every club member has a handicap which allows fair play for all competitors. Joining our group is also a good way to meet new friends. All are welcome! PING PONG Join us on M-W-F from 10AM-12PM in the MPR. All skill levels are welcome. Don t have a paddle? we have loaners. Dates and times of play are Tuesdays & Thursdays at 10:00AM. 8 TENNIS CLUB Cooler weather is coming, so we can start playing tennis at a reasonable hour, however the courts were used early in the morning and late at night throughout the summer. Drop in will start Monday thru Friday, 9:00am to 10:30am. Come join us. A summer monsoon storm did a number on our bulletin board, so come check out our new and improved board. This will give you up to date tennis info and a calendar to make your court reservations. Our next meeting will be Monday, October 2nd in the Ocotillo Room at 1PM. All are welcome. SAGUARO SUN STRIDERS We are a volkssport club and part of the American Volkssport Association. Our club has 20+ walks in AZ that can be done any time. We offer a few special events each year and several group walks during the winter months. Our walks are 10k and 5k and most are not difficult. You need not be a member of the club to walk with us.
