Classes have gotten off to a good start are starting to fill with new and returning faces. It is super exciting to see dancers stretching, leaping, shuffling, and turning in all of classes and studios! Music is jamming from each stereo, parents are crowding the observer windows eager to see what their dancer is learning and doing in class. The air is full of excitement and anticipated joy with all that happening and that makes TDW a very happy dance studio! We hope each of our families is finding TDW to be user friendly in every way. Please make sure if you are in need of information or help, you will make sure to let us know. We are more than happy to help you with anything you may need. We also have our Policy and Procedures Handbook as well as individual handouts with any of this information as well. Our goal is for you and your family to always be well informed and keep our line of communication open at all times. This year as we continue to embrace our mission as Lee County s Premier Training Facility and educate the whole child we hope that you will join us in support of our mission and help spread the word about our studio. That is the ultimate compliment for us as you refer our studio to your friends and family. And remember, you receive 50% off of 1 month tuition of 1 class when someone you refer registers and enrolls in a class for a minimum of a month. September will bring about Labor Day for our studio to be closed but other than that, we will be open and hard at work all month. Merde Cheryl 1

November 11: Veteran s Day STUDIO CLOSED November 22-26: Thanksgiving Break STUDIO CLOSED TDW Ballet Classes Our Ballet Classes have a specific dress code that is required for all ballet classes. Our dress code for all students in levels from Pre Ballet and up is as follows: Child Leotard (these run small) COLOR: GREY Girls "Mabel" Sweet Heart Tank Leotard Style No: WM185C Adult Leotard: COLOR: GREY Adult "Mabel" Sweet Heart Tank Leotard (these run small) Style No: WM185 Hip Alignment Belt RAINDANCE 1/2" Hip Alignment Belt Style No: 60S COLOR: Light Pink Leotards and Hip Belts can purchased in several ways: You may purchase them from The Dancing Shoe on 41. They have placed an order for these specific items and will carry them in stock. You may order them from Discount Dance Supply with the following Style Numbers Listed Above. You may order them from Dancewear Solutions. We hope to have these in stock soon as well All dancers are required to have Capezio Ballet Pink Tights and Canvas Pink Ballet Shoes. Hair is required to be in a neat, clean bun for every class. 2

3 Inside the Classroom For those family members who are unable to observe your dancer in class, this section of our newsletter allows you the opportunity to gain an overview and insight of what they your dancer is doing and learning in class each month and information that faculty would like to share. As our classes get busy, be sure and read this section to find out what is happening. ***If there is a class you wish to take that is NOT on the schedule, please see Ms. Margaret. We will make all efforts to add it. We already have a sign up for Musical Theater and hope to add that class soon! Let us know. MS. CHERYL Classes are off to a great start and I am super excited to work with my returning students and get to know my new students. We have much work to do and many goals to accomplish in the name of dance and fun! Tap I: This class is ready to move forward after a year of Pre-Tap! They are refreshing their Flaps and Shuffles and getting ready to build on quickness and their ability to add more sounds to each basic tap step. 2 weeks in and we are rolling along! Tap IV: This class is refreshing their food work and speed but is also adding new difficulty to their steps and combinations. I cannot wait to see how far this class will go this year. They are ready for a challenge! Ballet/Stretch and Flex: This class is back in full swing and are working hard to improve turn out and improved their footwork. I look forward to seeing continued improvement from this class not only in ballet and flexibility but also in their Competitive Gymnastics. Combo I: What a fun group of my precious littles these dancers are! We are learning what the class rules are and how to follow them, as well as our steps and ballet positions. We are also working hard on our R and L and our new tap steps too! Combo II: This group of dancers is still a small group but quite smart! I love seeing what our dancers retained over the summer and what they are ready to move forward on! Adult Tap: This class is rocking already. These ladies are ready to move. All levels and all kinds of fun is what is happening in this class and we are just tapping away. Feel free to join us for fun, exercise and an hour of great music and tap! Adult Fitness: We are strengthening our core, increasing our flexibility, and toning our bodies from head to toe! Join us 1 or 2 nights a week for a fun full-body work out that allows you to really focus on your body at your pace and your level while still showing gains in all areas EXCEPT #s. 3

4 Tap II: This class is tapping along and we are already beginning to experiment with new rhythms and tempos for this level. Speed and additional sounds will be a key focus for this level class as the basics are in place and now we will add in the other fun stuff. Pre Tap: This class is such a great, fun group of dancers. They love working to make the sounds happen and love learning new sounds and steps. This promises to be a fun class with this bunch! I cannot wait to see how much they will absorb! CP Team: Our multi-leveled team is hard at work so far this year and is such a FABULOUS group of dancers and families. These dancers are hungry for dance and love being in the studio learning new choreography and challenging themselves on the difficult work they are given every day. I cannot wait to see what this group will accomplish this year. I know it will be nothing short of amazing, on stage and off! MS. MARIA Hello everyone! I am super excited about this new upcoming year at The Dance Warehouse! I am so ecstatic to see many familiar faces and a lot of new ones as well. The first two weeks of my classes have been off to a great start! Everyone is getting the hang of how the classes work, making new friends, and already learning new skills! This is going to be a great year and I'm so happy to be able to share it with all of you! MS. ABBIE Pre Hip Hop: In this class, we are learning the fundamentals of hip hop and working on coordination as well. We have just learned how to do popcorns which are used in floor breakdancing movements. We are working on our memory as dancers as well, so at the end of class we always work on choreography to help with our memory skills. Hip Hop I: This month, we have been working on the fundamentals of hip hop such as grooves and other fundamental steps to do for transitions in choreography. We just finished learning the choreography from placement testing day. We were also working on cleaning our movements during across floor and in our choreography that we learn. Throughout the semester, they will learn different dances with different elements of hip hop as well as the many styles that come with it. I look forward teaching this group our new steps and tricks throughout my time with them. Tween/Teen Hip Hop: In August, we have learned different styles such as contemporary/hip hop, jazz funk which is mix of hip hop and jazz, basic threads, whacking, and vogueing. As they grow as dancers, I am trying to mold them into a more versatile dancer so they are ready for the dance world one day if they ever decide to pursue a career in hip hop. Hip Hop II: I am so proud of this group of young ladies and the growth they have been making in class. We have been working hard on perfecting across the floors as well as trying to perfect choreography. As we get more into the class we will be learning harder and faster choreography. MS. GABRIELLA First, I would like to start by saying how excited I am to be a part of The Dance Warehouse family! All of the students and parents have been so welcoming during this transitioning process from graduating USF to living in Ft Myers. I am very appreciative of Ms. Cheryl and everyone else who have kindly helped integrate me into the studio. 4

5 It's back to school and studio time! I know the shift from summer can be difficult at times trying to get back into the swing of things, however I would never know it because of how hard all of the students have been working. Every class I have taught thus far, has been filled with positive energy and a willingness to learn. We've been starting to build knowledge of spatial awareness, musicality (tempo vs rhythm), and technical terms for movement. Each month my goal is to give a shout-out for student(s) who have reached difficult benchmarks in a class. This is to showcase how applying corrections and taking mental notes of what a student needs to do in order to achieve a new skill, brings about success. For this month my shout-out goes to 3 students in my Intermediate Acrobatics class: Kaylan Bunnell, Aspen Howell, & Aliza Litvak. Each has mastered a side aerial with no spot needed. This is a hard power trick, which takes a lot of mental and physical focus, for it to be done correctly. The best part is that each of them learned how to do the trick in only 2 classes; pretty impressive stuff! MR. EDWIN For the month of September students of all levels will be learning coordination techniques according to the Vaganova Method (arms and head) that will give them a foundation and understanding of the importance of synchronization of music and movements in different styles of music like waltz, adagios, polkas and Mazurkas. The students will also get deeper knowledge of Ballet vocabulary in the language of Ballet (French). Mr. Navarro will focus on building a good discipline in the students while making the process of learning a lot of fun! Inside the Warehouse VENDING MACHINE Healthy snacks and drinks are available at our Healthy Choice Vending Machine. Our machine takes Cash, Debit or Credit Cards! Forgot a snack or dinner, no worries! We have something for you and it is a healthy choice too! BIRTHDAY PARTIES/EVENT RENTALS The Dance Warehouse is so much more than a place your children take dance! We offer our studio space for rental for so many other kinds of events and can even throw an amazing birthday party. Whether your dancer is the King of Pop, Princess of the Day, or an adult that enjoys shaking their groove thang, we can create the event that makes your special day your way! Stop by the front desk to find out more about how we can host your special event here at The Dance Warehouse! PARENTS: Please remember our walls in the back are not soundproof. When you are observing in our hallways, we ask that your keep your volume to a whisper so as not to distract our students. We also ask that you please keep your CHILDREN QUIET in that area as well. If they are getting fussy or noisy, please bring them to our spacious lobby so that your dancer and others are getting the most of their class. Thank you! 5

6 Spotlight of the Month Our teacher spotlight this month is Miss Gabriella Olsen! We are super excited to welcome Ms. Gabby to TDW. She brings a wealth of knowledge, passion and a love of dance and performing to us that is so exciting. For those of you who have had her in class over the summer her enthusiasm is contagious as you know. It is just lovely to see teaching with such love and caring behind every move and step. Miss Gabby s is originally from the Florida Keys. She began her earlier dance training at On Your Toes dance studio in The Florida Keys, and attended high school at New World School of the Arts under the direction of Daniel Lewis. She recently graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance, alongside an entrepreneurship business minor. She has trained in multiple styles of dance, has studied dance abroad in Paris France, and has performed in international dance festivals at Beijing Normal University in Chine and Queens Hall in Trinidad & Tobago. Miss Gabby will also be away for 10 days as she travels to perform in Korea with How incredible that our faculty are dancing and teaching all over the world! This says so much about the quality of faculty we have teaching at TDW. You should be super proud of your teachers. I know I am Dancing Ahead DEMONSTRATOR / TEACHING ASSISTANT PROGRAM We are in need of demonstrators! We are still in need of a few demonstrators for some of our classes. This is a great way to earn hours, gain understanding of the other side of a dance class, and allow the teacher to get hands on with students! If you are interested, please see Ms. Cheryl. If you are Middle School or High School student and are interested in being a class Demonstrator/Assistant, please let the front desk know. This is an opportunity to learn how to manage a class, teaching skills and the other side of running a studio or teaching a class. It is a great skill to hone prior to going off to college! You never know what job you may get! This program is also available for Lee County School District volunteer hours. COSTUME DRESS UP WEEK Each October we enjoy adding in the themes that are happening in the world around us. As you know October is Halloween month! Each year we have our annual WEAR YOUR COSTUME TO DANCE WEEK during the week prior to Halloween. We encourage all of our dancers to participate. It is always so much fun. We have different contests throughout the week allowing for a Social Media Prize, A Studio Vote for Best Costume, Most Unique Costume and much more. It is all in the name of fun and frivolity. Even the teachers dress up! Yes, that is correct! The teachers and staff participate too! So start planning now! Get those costumes ready. This is a great time to pull old dance costumes out, etc., so they can wear different costumes each day they come! However, please remember we WILL dance that week. Class will still take place. So please keep that in mind. 6

8 Command Performance News We are now in our beginning stages of building! Everyone needs to be on time, in class and paying close attending to your schedules until they become second nature. Time management will be a major focus for all as you learn to balance your dance with your academics and free time. This is a most important skill that all team members are expected to master over time. Please make sure you and your dancer have read the HANDBOOK IN ITS ENTIRETY! If there are any questions or anything that is not clear please ask! Not understanding something is not an excuse. Team members need to make sure ALL shoes and dance attire are at studio for classes.
