Many club members have been asking since I became a board member, when are we going to be able to renew on-line? Good question and I finally have an answer. After many months of building, testing and rebuilding, we have a functional website, with membership renewal links, more user operability and a great new user interface. Thanks to Ray Price our Webmaster, Mike Durham our club Secretary, and all the board members who put hours into making this site possible. We have had a bunch of members sign up for access to the site. You do have to be a member to get to the vast majority of the web pages. Members can go to the web site homepage and follow the link to request access from the webmaster. Once in, please build a member profile for yourself and have a look around. You will find lots of info on the club, but you will not be able to access any other member s personal info. You can message other club members, but only once in the secure area for members only. The maintenance crew has installed a dead bolt lock on the community room often affectionately referred to as the geezer shack and the rest room on the ground floor of the classroom. This was done to prevent our club vagrant from using these rooms after we close the range each day. It seems to be working and we hope to have deterred our trespasser since the threat of prosecution is not very likely or severe. The frames for the baffle support post bases are in place, the holes dug and liners installed. Now comes the installation of the steel attaching the re-bar to the posts. If weather allows we should be pouring cement in the next month or so. Again, this effort is completed entirely by member volunteers. The first and third Saturdays are dedicated to maintenance and upgrades of the club. We would not be able to afford to operate without these members volunteering their time to keep the club maintained and making improvement to enhance the safety of our range. OK, it s that time of year, when we start to see more kids coming out to the range on Sunday afternoons to partake in our Junior Rifle Marksmanship program. The club bought several Civilian Marksmanship program target rifles and will train kids, aged 11 to 18, in safe handling, safe operation and marksmanship - all the things they will need to safely earn NRA marksmanship badges and break that curiosity about weapons that gets many kids without safety training in trouble. Kids who have been trained know to get away from unsecured weapons and tell an adult. We can be proud of the accomplishments of our Junior Rifle program, we have made a bunch of kids safe, competent shooters, who understand that a weapon is just a tool, and if used properly, is safer than a car. We need more kids involved in the shooting sports through the Junior Rifle program and progress them at age 18 to one of the many other shooting disciplines. As many have seen during this last election cycle, schools are not teaching the truth about firearms in America. We need more kids to experience firsthand the benefit of firearms marksmanship training for the discipline and maturity that will aid them in everything they do as an adult. So, as March begins and the Texas weather breaks to give us nicer shooting days, come on out to the range and get some practice in. Be it your License to Carry (LTC) weapon or your gopher gun, come out and practice. Use a one bullseye target only on the A or LTC range to prevent damage to the target frames. We had one shooter hit the rail on the LTC range, causing damage that had to be repaired before the position was functional again. So, yes that shooter knew they screwed up, but didn t tell anyone. They just walked off and left it. On the C or 50-yard range, please use the tall target frames that are found leaning against the fence behind firing points 2-4. These frames will keep your bullet trajectory safe at either the sitting (at the bench) or offhand positions on the C range. Please only place targets on these frame near the center, to avoid damage to the frames, and to keep your bullets hitting only the backstop, not the baffles. Just look behind your target before you shoot, do you see only the backstop? Or is it baffles or the ground? Enjoy the club, but shoot SAFE! - John

From the Executive Officer Drue Mosley Range Report - RO Information Anyone who is closing the Range needs to make sure the Geyser Shack and the bathroom are locked.

I would like to remind you all that full size LTC approved targets are allowed on the A Range for practice. The member must install the large full size backer before using the target.

There is an RO lock on both and your key will fit them. We are doing this to encourage our night visitor to camp out somewhere else. If you are not sure of a rule please check the rule book or call me so you can give out the correct answers. I hope everyone has joined and is utilizing our new web site where there is great information and updates available. You can access the RO hours worked list and see how many hours you have worked, as well as review your maintenance hours worked. Thanks to everyone for the wonderful job you do, Drue Mosley, Executive RO, Bullseye Matches Tom Tinkham - Match Director Conventional Bullseye Pistol is America s oldest formal pistol match program. It is a challenging game of precision, timing and fine motor control. Bullseye matches are held at HCRPC only during Day Light Savings Time (March through October), each Monday evening at 5:30 PM. and take about an hour and a half to complete. A full Bullseye Pistol match is a 270 shot, 3 gun aggregate. The aggregates are:.22, Centerfire, and.45. Each Monday night one 90 round aggregate is shot with the caliber of the shooter s choice. Many participants only shoot.22 each week, some shooters use revolvers and some shoot both the Centerfire and.45 aggregates with.45s. Any sight is allowed including red dot and optical scopes. The targets are huge - covering the entire backing of the club s target frames. The challenging part is that you can only use 1 hand to support the firearm and no support of the body from the shooting bench. This sport can be intimidating to the new shooter because of the difficulty of hitting the 50 yard slow fire target using only one hand. Give it a try and you will be amazed at how quickly you improve with a little trigger time and some match experience. Any.22 pistol is plenty accurate for this game, and will be good enough to get you started. New shooters are always encouraged. There is always plenty of spare ammo and firearms that can be loaned out. Informal coaching is always available before and after the matches - all you have to do is show up and ask. Match fees are $6 each Monday. Free for first time HCR&PC members. If you are interested in participating, please come out on a Monday night. We look forward to your participation. CMP News Paul Varga Offhand Match - 29 April 2017 Due do range construction we will be holding a 100 yard off hand match. 20 shots in 10 min. To make matters fun we will open it up to any rifle and have four categories.
