1 SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2014 Welcome to the summer with the Suffolk Bugrs. Even though Alive & V Dubbin is done for another year, you can look forward to more events and festivals as the sun shines. Join us for more vdubs fun and adventure! Re-live the fun of Alive & V Dubbin

2 What a difference a year makes A&VD 13 to A&VD 14 It s Alive & V-Dubbin 2013, I m really hoping that the gates don t close at dusk and I m driving as fast as I dare along the A14 in our T25 Yes the day had finally come when we were going to actually sleep in our camper, and it had been a long day of trying to get the camper useable for the weekend. At 8am on the Friday morning we didn t have a Bed or seats, the fridge was in the garage and no cupboard doors. Thankfully I knew the mechanical side of Bertie Blue Bus was Ok as we had been day bussing for a little while, but we had never put up our awning either and with a 1 year old and a 6 year old the pressure was on...finally arrived on site about 9pm, and was shown to our spot by some lovely people just give us a shout if you need anything I was thinking a brain transplant at the time for my crazy campervan ideas! Anyway we got set up, the bed stayed together (kind of) and we had a fantastic time. We also learnt a few lessons, the main one being Leo (eldest son) can fall out of the hightop and land in his brothers cot (twice), and that we need plenty of notification for toilet trips...we were also mighty impressed with the organisation and friendliness of the show and its people, so joined the Suffolk Bugrs during the weekend. Our VW owning story started some time before this, my band The Dulcet Tones had played at Whitenoise for a few years, and when I joined the band I spent a couple of years admiring the Campers and soon started spotting them out on the road. Then Louise got pregnant with Owen and all thoughts of camping went out of the window. Another Whitenoise came along for the band, I camped and Louise came along with the boys as day visitors. At the end of the show Louise said Go on then, we can have one, the boys will love it She still isn t sure if it was the end of the pregnancy hormones talking, but she doesn t regret saying it. Within 6 weeks I had found Bertie and was driving him home from Essex trying to work out why the lights didn t work and I didn t have a speedo. It then took from September to June to get things sorted as all was not what it seemed (amazing what a coat of paint can do). So what have we done since A&VD 13 and becoming Bugrs? We ve had 26 nights away around Norfolk & Suffolk, including spending a great Easter Weekend at Banham Zoo with the club, I ve joined the Suffolk Bugrs committee, attended most of the meets and cruises and most importantly made some fabulous friends within the club. Bertie Blue Bus has also had a few changes, and he certainly can t be called Rustic anymore (which was my mates comment to me at A&VD 13) although he still has some rough edges for character. We celebrated our first anniversary of V-Dubbin by volunteering to crew at A&VD, with The Dulcet Tones putting in a rocking appearance for good measure. It was a very busy weekend, Louise helped with the Kids Activities, and I did a bit on the gate, litter picking and the Club Stand, however it just made us realise how lucky we are to have such a fantastic club and made us very proud to be Dubbers and Bugrs! We are now looking forward to another year, with Summer Camp coming up and loads of meets, cruises and of course the 10 th Anniversary celebrations for the club next year. See you all there and big thanks for making us all feel so welcome! Andrew, Louise, Leo and Owen Plunkett DO YOU WANT TO BE PART OF TEAM ALIVE & V-DUBBIN 2015? Alive & V-Dubbin wouldn t be the show it is without a dedicated team of volunteers that care about it and want it to work. Show goers have commented on how friendly the team are and that makes a difference to everyone s weekend. So are you able to commit to any of the following? 1. CREW Can you commit to work on a rota for the duration of the show Fri Sun and to help pack up on Sunday late afternoon/evening - Friday 12th - Sunday 14th June Jimmy's Farm, Ipswich? 2. SET UP CREW A big part of organising the show also comes down to the week leading up to the show. So if you are able to help at all, whether its one or more days during the week beginning Monday 8th June - Thur 11th June, please let us know. All volunteers/stewards can arrive to set up camp on Wednesday or Thursday before. A separate area is reserved for CREW so that the team can camp together and access required equipment etc with ease. Depending on how many people volunteer depends on how many hours in total you will be on the rota. Hours are shared out equally according to availability. On the weekend everyone is required to attend a quick debrief/meeting each morning at 8am. We provide regular refreshments when you are working. You will be kept informed of planning progress by receiving minutes from all planning meetings. So if anyone feels they can commit to being part of Alive & V-Dubbin CREW 2015 PLEASE SPEAK TO A COMMITTEE MEMBER AT A MEET OR suffolkbugrs@hotmail.co.uk
