GUEST EDITORIAL By Sarah Budi Director of Volunteer Fundraising, National Rifle Association A FUNDRAISING SUCCESS, FRIENDS OF NRA IS REALLY ALL ABOUT THE FAMILY Some of my fondest memories growing up came from spending weekends with my family at our hunting lodge. It wasn t until I had my first rifle that I just had to be the first person packed and in the car for those weekend getaways. Like many other girls my age, I joined the local Girl Scouts troop where I learned valuable life lessons while enjoying the outdoors, camping and hiking. One fall, my troop attended a shooting camp where I learned for the first time how to shoot a rifle and bow. After returning home, I told my parents all about the camp and how much fun we had on the range. That year for Christmas my mom and I received our first gun, a.22 bolt action rifle. Since then, shooting has been a way of bonding with my family- planning trips throughout the year where we create our own shooting competitionsand now it s something my husband and I share will prove to be another record breaking year for the Friends of NRA program. More enthusiastic supporters have attended local Friends events this year than ever before. Going forward, we are focused on educating new and future attendees about the positive effects The NRA Foundation and the Friends of NRA program are having in local communities. Throughout the years, new technologies and fundraising techniques have assisted the program in its incredible growth, but the true impact of Friends of NRA is in local communities, where hardworking volunteers provide avenues for the passing-on of family traditions. Just as my family encouraged learning about shooting, Friends of NRA will ensure opportunities for future generations to do the same. Because of the great memories shared with my family, I can truly appreciate the importance of funding educational shooting programs. If it weren t for The NRA Foundation, there would be many young people without places to learn and get involved in the shooting sports. I can t imagine family camping trips without shooting and it s one of the many reasons why the Friends of NRA program is so important to me. To date, Friends of NRA is responsible for funding over 200 million dollars to the shooting sports with 22 million granted to range improvements alone. These funds allow families to learn and shoot together at a local club or range and without them, many kids would not have had the same opportunity that I was afforded at a young age. 5 AT THE 2013 NRA ANNUAL MEETINGS IN HOUSTON, OVER 80,000 ATTENDEES GOT TO CHECK OUT THE LATEST FIREARMS AND GEAR. THE PATRIOTIC AND PASSIONATE CROWD DIRECTLY IMPACTED THE SHOOTING SPORTS BY HAVING FUN AND RAISING FUNDS AT THE NATIONAL NRA FOUNDATION BANQUET & AUCTION. The much anticipated auction kicked off the weekend's events, and, in true Friends of NRA style, the evening encompassed games, raffles, silent and live auctions, food and speakers. Fundraising was taken to a new level thanks to the generous support of sponsors Cabela's, U.S. Law Shield and Universal Coin and Bullion. Overall it was an exciting, fun-filled and record-breaking year at the 2013 National NRA Foundation Banquet in Houston. Sold out a month in advance, the banquet hosted 1,780 Second Amendment enthusiasts. Guests waiting eagerly in the lobby of the Hilton Americas-Houston Grand Ballroom for the doors to open at 5 pm had the opportunity to play "Guns and Roses," a game in which $20 bought a long stemmed rose and a chance to win a "his and hers" firearms package. Guests could also purchase a Friends of NRA Ammo Box, containing opportunities to win up to six different firearms at six games throughout the ballroom. Each box also included one TRADITIONS. QUARTER 2: 2013 entry to a drawing for a Colt M4 Carbine or a Smith & Wesson M&P15 as well as four other items: a mini Friends of NRA truck, a shot shell flashlight, a shot shell glass and a custom NRA gun cleaning cloth. By the time the doors had opened, most of the boxes were sold, raising nearly $50,000 for The NRA Foundation. With anticipation in the air, the doors swung open, and guests swarmed into the ballroom and flooded the silent auction, buckets and game tables. The bucket raffle, a classic Friends of NRA staple, allowed purchasers of raffle packs chances to win hundreds of select merchandise and firearms. Premiums for some of the top raffle pack levels included a Steiner binocular, a Remington R-1 or the big ticket item, a Kel-Tec KSG Shotgun. In the silent auction, competition was fierce over custom firearms, national and international hunts, tactical and hunting gear, and home decor displaying a passion for America and our Second Amendment rights. With almost 200 items to bid on and three rounds of bidding, participants kept coming back for more. If you couldn t wait for that item you just had to have, bidders could "Buy it Now," preventing bidding wars while also entering the buyer into an exclusive drawing for a donated Remington Varmint Exterminator Rifle. Throughout the room various games provided attendees more chances to win exclusive firearms and gear. New this year was the Tactical Raffle with a jackpot prize including firearms, knives and gear. "The Gunny" R. Lee Ermy even stopped by to sign the gear for one lucky winner. Since the National NRA Foundation Banquet is the largest NRA Foundation event of the year, it was only appropriate to offer a game of equal magnitude. "Winner Take All" offered players the chance to win a total of eight firearms when they purchased tickets at $20 each, three for $50 or ten for $100. The winner got the best 5

deal of the whole evening and helped raise over $15,000! Another crowd favorite, the Table of Guns, was played at dinner by over 900 attendees, raising over $18,000. One of the 178 tables won Smith & Wesson 9mm Shields for all 10 guests who were seated at that table. The night was just kicking off, but as the silent auction, games and buckets came to a close, guests took to their seats. Being such huge contributors to the evening s success, the Gold, Silver and Bronze table sponsors were recognized with seats near the front of the room. As a thank you, each table sponsor, whether a company or an individual, received special recognition. Event sponsors as well as Gold and Silver table sponsors received W.R. Case custom knives with tin cases for each of their guests. Not only did these sponsors' tables boast prime seating and marketing, but they also amped up the level of fundraising for the future of the shooting sports. To kick off the program and honor our American freedoms, Alyssa Clift, a student at A&M, sang a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem while Waller Air Force Jr. ROTC presented the colors. To thank the thousands of volunteers who help with Friends of NRA banquets across the country, the five Region Volunteers of the Year received expense-paid trips to the 2013 Annual Meetings for their outstanding contributions to the Friends of NRA's mission to promote the legacy of the shooting sports. Field Operations Director of Volunteer Fundraising Sarah Budi, awarded each recipient a certificate framed by award sponsor, Mill Pond Press. Just as attendees were settling into dinner, another raffle game gave 52 guests a last minute opportunity to buy tickets for a chance to win a Glock 22 signed in-person by "The Gunny." He made a surprise appearance on stage and gave orders for the winner to hustle and join him for a photo with the freshly autographed Glock 22. Following "The Gunny," former NRA President David Keene encouraged all attendees to stand and fight for our American freedoms and 6 TRADITIONS. QUARTER 2: 2013

Second Amendment rights and emphasized the importance of involvement and perseverance. Cabela's Executive VP and Chief Marketing and E-Commerce Officer Scott William, U.S. Law Shield's Vice President Kirk Evans and Universal Coin and Bullion's President Mike Fuljenz thanked The NRA Foundation for the event sponsorship opportunity and reinforced the overall message of involvement and participation in Second Amendment freedoms to preserve future generations opportunities in shooting sports. Saving the best for last, auctioneer Bill Elrod took the stage with emcee Darren Delong, Oklahoma NRA Sr. Field Rep, for the live auction featuring highly valuable, donated firearms, merchandise, and hunts. Some of the big ticket items included: an NRA Liberty Safe with mystery gun; a custom cowboy boot and hat package with an Uberti Silverboy; an autographed Marcus Luttrell "Lone Survivor" book with an exclusive Friends of NRA Navy Seal SIG SAUER Pistol and custom holster; and Louisiana goose, Canadian moose and Alaskan black bear hunts. Stealing the show and raising the record amount for any single item in The NRA Foundation Live Auction was a custom-built, NRA-themed airboat donated by Diamondback Airboats and Taurus. Their generosity took the live auction to a whole new level and made for one happy NRA Foundation supporter! Judging by this year s banquet, the tale is true. Everything IS bigger in. Thanks to attendees, donors, volunteers and sponsors who joined us to celebrate our American freedoms, The National NRA Foundation Banquet broke records across the board, raising over $500,000! Each individual part of the event was a tremendous success and together helped reach this incredible milestone. Although the event was huge, we hope to continue to break records next year at the 2014 National NRA Foundation Banquet and Auction in Indianapolis. Be sure to buy your tickets early and speed on over for a night of incredible fundraising that you won't forget! TRADITIONS. QUARTER 2:

Ladies and GentlemEn, step right up to the Wall of Guns Thanks to the unrelenting vocal cords of Western Region Director Brad Kruger, the sponsorships from Cabela's and Leupold, and the revamped and fresh new wall display built by Legacy Quest Outdoors, The NRA Foundation broke fundraising records yet again with the lively and much anticipated Wall of Guns at the Annual Meetings. The 2013 Wall of Guns had record-high totals, with 95 winners and over $100,000 raised in support of The NRA Foundation and the future of our shooting sports traditions. Conveniently located on the second floor of the George R. Brown convention center, the wall enticed event-goers entering the exhibit hall lobby to passers-by on their way to events at the 142nd NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits. The 24-footlong, beautifully crafted wall and display cabinet from Legacy Quest Outdoors boasted American pride and firearm enthusiasm. It was hard to miss when looking down the hallway, especially with the large crowd and a speaker blaring the beckoning voice of Kruger. Each section of the Wall was chock-full of guns featuring different makes and calibers, totaling 78 firearms in all. To win a firearm, participants had to purchase at least one $20 raffle ticket in the 100 per round, being furiously sold by volunteers. Once all 100 were sold, a winner was drawn and a new round began. The lucky winner got to select one firearm off of the "pick one" side of the wall or two firearms off of the "pick two" side. Ninety-five happy winners walked away with their choice of firearm and a neon t-shirt proudly proclaiming "I won the Wall of Guns...Jealous?" Other ticket package options featured were a "Got Guns?" t-shirt package, a Rough Rider revolver package and an Instant Winner package which awarded the purchaser with at least one firearm from the wall on the spot. Attendees were shocked when they saw the Wall, the firearms and the amazing chances of winning. The most popular firearms selected from the Wall of Guns were the Remington R-1 and the Colt M-4 Light Carbine. However, Bart Ballew, Manager of The NRA Foundation's Field Operations Distribution Center, commented on the wide variety of firearms picked, noting that 52 out of the 78 models available were chosen by winners. No doubt all who won at the Wall of Guns left satisfied with a new prize. All of the staff, volunteers, builders and sponsors who made the 2013 Wall of Guns possible should be proud of its sheer magnitude and success in! Don't miss the Wall of Guns next year in Indianapolis on April 25-27, Play for a chance to win and you might be able to answer Yes! to the question Got Guns? TRADITIONS. QUARTER 2:

NATIONAL NEWS How many volunteers does it take to raise John Madden Reno/Sparks and Modesto $192,000 Patty Cattoor Black Canyon and Colorado State $75,000 Motivation, dedication and commitment to the cause are the driving forces for Friends of NRA volunteers. They are an extraordinary group of individuals who believe our Second Amendment freedoms are worth standing up and fighting for, and they do so in one of the most powerful ways: fundraising. Volunteers spend countless hours planning for their yearly banquets hosting pre and post-event raffles, selling sponsorships and soliciting donations. Their efforts do not go unnoticed and one of the ways Friends of NRA recognizes them is through the Volunteer of the Year program. In 2012, Friends of NRA's Region Volunteers of the Year collectively raised an astounding $400,000 for their committees. When adding the fundraising efforts of all 58 Area Volunteers of the Year, the total amount swells to over $2 million. And with the accomplishments of the tens of thousands of volunteers throughout the country, Friends of NRA grossed over $50 million and generated $22 million in net proceeds for The NRA Foundation. Nominated by NRA Field Staff, Area Volunteers of the Year are chosen based on their accomplishments during the year. They receive special recognition from their Field Rep and an exclusive embroidered jacket for their efforts. From the Area 10 TRADITIONS. QUARTER 2: 2013

Tim Heuiser South East Missouri $67,000 WILLIAM SHANK MIDLAND TRAIL $12,500 Gary and Pat Graef Charlotte Harbor and Greater Fort Myers Area $58,500 Volunteers, Region Volunteers of the Year are chosen by senior NRA staff to represent the best of the five regions: Eastern, Central, Southern, Mid-West and Western. To personally thank these volunteers, region winners and their spouses are given expense-paid trips to the NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits where they are recognized on stage at the National NRA Foundation Banquet. This year the Region Volunteers of the Year hailed from West Virginia, Missouri, Florida, Colorado and Nevada. William Shank, Tim Heuiser, Gary and Pat Graef, Patty Cattoor and John Madden humbly accepted their awards on the evening of Thursday, May 2 in Houston,. However, just like other Friends of NRA volunteers, they expressed that recognition is not the ultimate goal, but rather, it is to provide much needed assistance to their communities' shooting sports programs. Because of the generous sponsorship of Mill Pond Press, this year's Region Volunteers of the Year were treated to an amazing Annual Meeting experience. Linda Schaner, President of Mill Pond Press, is a long time supporter of Friends of NRA and understands the immense importance of its volunteers. "It is with great pleasure that Mill Pond Press is the Volunteer of the Year Sponsor for Volunteers are the backbone of most non-profit organizations, and NRA volunteers are heads above the rest. We at Mill Pond are thrilled to not only be associated with Friends of NRA, but honored to be part of the recognition that these volunteers deserve." TRADITIONS. QUARTER 2:

The 2013 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits were held May 2-5 in Houston,, and capping the event was the first ever NRA Sports NRA Youth Day. The event, open to all including non-members was made possible through support from sponsors including Aimpoint, Boyt Harness Company, Brownells, LaserShot, Henry Rifles, Marlin, Pyramyd Air, Remington, Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) and Winchester Ammunition. Kids of all ages and from different walks of life filled the space with joy and excitement as they learned about many of the programs NRA offers. Featured programs included the Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC), the Youth Education Summit (Y.E.S.), the Youth Wildlife Art Contest, and NRA s InSights magazine, which provided computers for kids to explore articles and features from the online publication. Parents and kids were also able to find out information on how to start a youth program in their own hometown. Interactive exhibits like LaserShot, NRA 3 Gun AirSoft, and an Eddie Eagle coloring table created an engaging environment for attendees, and the Sponsor Safari in the exhibit hall provided more hands-on involvement. Participants were given a Sponsor Safari Track Card, and they had to visit each of the NRA Youth Day sponsor booths to complete it. A Brownells/NRA Youth Ambassador was positioned at each sponsor booth to mark and sign off on the track cards. By completing the Safari, participants received a raffle ticket for a drawing of prizes donated from Aimpoint, Boyt Harness Company, and Brownells. Mila Gonzales, a nine-year-old from Baytown,, has attended every Annual Meeting, except St. Louis in 2012, since she was born. Mila was the first person to register for the NRA Youth Day as well as the first person to successfully complete the Sponsor Safari. TRADITIONS. QUARTER 2: 2013 Since Mila's birth, we have made the NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits our yearly vacation, said Cindy Gonzales, Mila s mother. Each year we look forward to seeing all of the new products and familiar faces. By the last day of past meetings, Mila was ready to go home, but this year was different; Mila couldn t get enough of the atmosphere created by the NRA Youth Day. The NRA Youth Day sparked an interest for Mila but also formed a bond for mother and daughter as they visited all of the familiar exhibit floor booths on the quest to complete Mila s Sponsor Safari card. They practiced shooting at the NRA 3 Gun AirSoft, colored while learning gun safety with Eddie Eagle, and enjoyed the delicious snacks available to all. We really enjoyed this time while [her father] leisurely journeyed through the exhibits, remarked Gonzales. We would like to say thank you for a great experience as this year was our favorite Annual Meeting so far! We proudly support the NRA and so look forward to next year! Over 500 kids and their parents participated in the inaugural NRA Youth Day at the 2013 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits, and the NRA Sports staff couldn t be more pleased with the results and turnout. It was a great way to wrap up a great event in Houston! Start an NRA Day event at your club. Events like NRA Youth Day provide youth and families the opportunity to come together to learn about, experience, and share in the shooting sports. Events can be tailored to the needs of your club and based on your resources. It s a great way to introduce new folks and families to the shooting sports as well as the programs and activities you offer at your club or range. 14 RHODES LESS TRAVELED 14 TRADITIONS. QUARTER 2: 2013

Cecil Rhodes, an English businessman and politician from the late 1800 s, was an ardent believer in British colonialism and an integral part of expanding the British empire in southern Africa. When Rhodes died in 1902, his last will and testament provided for the establishment of the Rhodes Scholarship, the world's first international study program. In 1904 the first class of American Rhodes Scholars entered Oxford and today it is one of the most competitive and sought after scholarships in America. Nearly 110 years later, the newest class will include Joseph Riley, District 7 representative (Tennessee) and 2008 National Youth Education Summit (Y.E.S.) participant. This is the first time in Y.E.S.'s 17 year history that an alum has been awarded the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship. Rhodes Scholars are chosen in a two-stage process. First, candidates must be endorsed by their college or university, and then the strongest applicants are asked to appear before the Committees of Selection for an interview. This year approximately 1,700 students sought their institutions' endorsement with only 32 chosen. According to Elliot F. Gerson, American Secretary of the Rhodes Trust, candidates are selected based on a number of criteria. In a press release announcing the winners, Gerson states, "Applicants are chosen on the basis of the criteria set down in the Will of Cecil Rhodes. These criteria are high academic achievement, integrity of character, a spirit of unselfishness, respect for others, potential for leadership, and physical vigor. These basic characteristics are directed at fulfilling Mr. Rhodes s hopes that the Rhodes Scholars would make an effective and positive contribution throughout the world. In Rhodes words, his Scholars should 'esteem the performance of public duties as their highest aim.'" Riley, a senior at the University of Virginia, truly embodies all these characteristics. He is currently majoring in Mandarin Chinese and in the Honors Program for Government and Foreign Affairs. Riley routinely takes over 20 credits and participates in Army ROTC activities, all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. In addition to his academic achievements, Riley has helped two professors design graduate-level research classes. One class focused on insurgent behaviors in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the other focused on resource competition between the U.S. and China in Sub-Saharan Africa and Central Asia. He also helped a professor write and edit his book on the impact of future trade expectations on great power relations and is currently in the process of researching and writing his own book on the role resource competition will play in driving Sino-American relations in the 21st Century. Riley spent the past two summers studying and researching in China on the Defense Departments Project Global Officer Fellowship, and over the past two Christmas breaks he completed both AIRBORNE School at Fort Benning and Air Assault School at Fort Campbell. Although Riley has accomplished a tremendous amount since attending Y.E.S. in 2008, he still speaks highly about the program and how it has contributed to his achievements. "I certainly believe Y.E.S. is an invaluable program," said Riley. "Not only did it help provide me with a better understanding of gun rights issues, but it also prepared me to research, write, and articulate controversial topics. These skills have proved invaluable in helping shape my academic career here at UVA." If not for his teacher Debbie Trotter, Riley may never have heard about the Y.E.S. program. She received a flyer about the program and passed it along knowing Riley was an active hunter and interested in politics. Riley thought it would be a great opportunity to learn about the Second Amendment, network with other like-minded future leaders, and improve his skills in debate and speech. He did all this and more throughout the week and his efforts earned him a $2,500 scholarship. The scholarship wasn't the only thing Riley took from the Y.E.S. program. "Y.E.S. helped solidify my plans to pursue a major related to Government and Politics," he explained. "The opportunity to engage with and debate like-minded high school students was an incredibly motivating and enriching experience. It gave me the confidence I needed to confront the issue of gun control on university campuses." Riley's ultimate goal to be an Army officer and focus on U.S./China relations will guide him in his studies at Oxford, where he plans to pursue the Masters of Philosophy International Relations degree. "I think the doctorate at Oxford in International Relations with a focus on U.S./ China relations will help me better understand how our two countries can continue to maintain peaceful relations as China continues to grow more powerful," said Riley. "Though many in the U.S. are understandably concerned about the implications of a rising China, I think it is important to remember that a wealthier China has many benefits for the U.S. A large Chinese middle class will provide a tremendous market opportunity for American corporations, it will have a pacifying effect on China's foreign policy, it will help facilitate the growth of a more democratic system of governance, and it will reduce the comparative advantage that Chinese manufacturers have over American companies due to low labor costs." Everyone at the NRA knows that this young man who has a discerned passion for his country will undoubtly make this world a better place. Riley's inspiration for greatness comes from his hero Teddy Roosevelt, an extraordinary leader, a compassionate family man, a scholar, and an avid sportsman who appreciated the importance of spending time in the woods. Riley steadfastly lives by two mottos: "A life void of service is a life void of purpose," and Luke 12:48, "To him whom much is given, much is required." TRADITIONS. QUARTER 2:

By Jeremy Greene Director of Marketing/Media Relations, National Rifle Association A young teenage girl, 14, is out for her first visit to a sporting clays range. She goes through a safety seminar and learns how to hold the shotgun and load a cartridge. The first few rounds are tough, no hits but she's getting more comfortable with every shot...it's only a matter of time. She takes the shotgun at the next round and loads a shell. Pull she yells as she steadies her aim. She pulls the trigger and the clay bird explodes into dust. Her face lights up and a rush comes through her. That incredible moment is hers forever. She is hooked and immediately thinks, I can't wait to tell my friends. The National Rifle Association is an organization built on promoting and encouraging marksmanship. Early on in the organization s history, the NRA turned its interest to promoting the shooting sports, especially among our nation's youth. It is those fundamental ideas of education and training that sustain many of the programs the NRA offers to the public today, a story that unfortunately isn't being told by today's mass media. To promote and present a consistent message about the direction and growth of NRA programs and the NRA s commitment to education, training and marksmanship, a brand needed to be created. The NRA has a new mission, getting back to the core of what we do best, what the organization was founded on. NRA-GO isn't really anything new but simply a way of showcasing all of the amazing programs the NRA has to offer while encouraging the public to learn and participate in the shooting sports. Too often all we hear about is the politics of the gun, but without the next generation enjoying what it is we love best about trying that new firearm out at a range, hunting with your buddies, or just being active in the outdoors, all of those politics won't really matter. In marketing, branding matters. That's why the companies and organizations that do it well are the most successful. The NRA brand is right up there with the strongest and most recognizable brands in the world. It is extremely important that we educating the public so that when they see or hear NRA they recognize the organization for promoting all aspects of the outdoor lifestyle. To any firearm enthusiast, that's what really matters. Having the ability to go enjoy the sport they love. There are stories like the one above that you read about in every issue of Traditions Magazine. Stories about local youth groups who just didn't have the funds to put together a shooting team until The NRA Foundation stepped in. When you read about a grant from The NRA Foundation allowing kids to shoot a firearm for the first time you can picture the smiles on those kids faces and we all know that it only takes one opportunity for exposure to the shooting sports to be hooked for life. Day in and day out, Americans from all walks of life turn to the NRA to be educated and trained in the shooting sports. They come to the NRA to be trained by the best but also because they know the NRA wants them to be safe while having fun and enjoying the outdoors. That's what NRA-GO is all about. It's a brand, a message, but it's really about being active and engaging. So, be on the lookout for the new NRA-GO message. A new website is being developed to deliver information about all of NRA's amazing educational and training programs while new social media tools will be used to engage the public about the other side of the NRA. Join us in helping spread the word that the National Rifle Association is dedicated to getting Americans active and engaged in the shooting sports. This is a tipping point in the history of the shooting sports. The doors are waiting to be busted open. GO Learn about the history of firearms from the NRA Museum; GO Train with an expert NRA Certified Instructor; GO Shoot at your local range and hunt with your friends and family; or GO Compete against your local club members in a new and exciting 3 gun event. Involve yourself and others in the outdoors and the shooting sports, and join the NRA-GO movement. TRADITIONS. QUARTER 2:

By Justin McDaniel Digital Managing Editor National Rifle Association The NRA Program Materials Center, which is NRA s online marketplace for everything from training handbooks and videos to competitive shooting aides and program apparel, processed a record number of orders in January That record stood for exactly 28 days, until February s numbers came in. Demand has been through the roof, to the point that our old benchmarks have had to be readjusted, said Bill Poole, Managing Director of NRA s Educational and Training Division. We ve had to adjust our replenishment triggers just to keep items in stock. January s total of 6,800 transactions shattered the previous record of 4,700 set in March Nearly 7,000 orders were placed in February, followed by more than 6,400 in March. With the significant increase in orders during the first quarter of 2013, expectations are high for the remainder of the year. For comparison, the Program Materials Center processed approximately 3,900 transactions in both January and February NRA programs in general are seeing tremendous growth, but it is heightened demand for firearm training that is fueling the Program Materials Center s record start to The NRA Education and Training Division is responsible for approximately 90 percent of the Program Materials Center s orders in any given month, said Poole. So what these numbers really represent is increased demand for firearm training from the NRA, especially our pistol courses. NRA s pistol-based training courses are generally the most popular, making the NRA Guide

to the Basics of Pistol Shooting, which is used in NRA s Basic Pistol and FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation courses, the Program Materials Center s top item. The Basic Pistol handbook, as it is known, is offered both individually and as part of student packets for the Basic Pistol and FIRST Steps Pistol courses. In 2011, orders for Basic Pistol handbooks totaled 191,000. That number grew to just shy of 260,000 handbooks in However, in January 2013 alone, almost 67,500 Basic Pistol books were ordered, followed by more than 54,300 in February and 43,800 in March. All told, more than 165,600 Basic Pistol handbooks were ordered during the first three months of the year, putting NRA on pace to ship approximately 600,000 copies in Our training numbers have increased dramatically over the years and really began to climb late in 2008, said John Howard, National Manager of the NRA Training Department. However, our numbers have increased much more substantially since the recent attacks on the Second Amendment. While the reasons for taking a firearm training course vary from one person to another, research shows that personal protection is the primary reason why Americans own firearms today. According to a new poll conducted by the Pew Research Center, 48 percent of American gun owners surveyed said they own firearms primarily for personal protection, while 32 percent said they own firearms primarily for hunting a major reversal from the findings of similar polls conducted in the late 1990 s. Folks are lining up to apply for and obtain their concealed carry permits or to purchase their first gun, and those two factors are driving most of the demand for training, said Howard. We average 1,100 new applications for instructor credentials per month and have done so for the past several years because of the need for NRA Instructors. The need for NRA Instructors is so great because, in general, the majority of states require concealed carry applicants to have completed a firearms safety course taught by an NRA Certified Instructor. Some states, like Michigan, Ohio and Connecticut, are more specific. Michigan, for example, accepts NRA s Personal Protection In The Home course, and Ohio law has been interpreted as requiring completion of NRA s Basic Pistol course. The instructions for the Connecticut State Pistol Permit actually states that applicants are required to complete a handgun safety course, which must consist of no less than the NRA s Basic Pistol Course, prior to submitting the application. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that Ohio and Connecticut ranked 1-2 in Pistol handbook orders during January 2013, with 14,000 going to the Buckeye State and another 8,000 going to Connecticut. To put those numbers in perspective, Pistol handbook orders for the previous two months combined totaled 9,200 for Ohio and 6,900 for Connecticut. When you consider that December 2012, January 2013 and February 2013 also rank as the top three months on record for firearm background checks submitted to the National Instant Check System, it becomes clear that Americans demand for firearms and firearms training is greater than ever before. And, as the numbers prove, when Americans seek out firearms training, they turn to the NRA, an organization that was built on firearms training and education more than 140 years ago. NRA s training courses remain the gold standard in the industry and are highly regarded for the depth and quality of the instruction. Our courses are standardized, with a nationally recognized curriculum, said Howard. I often refer to one of our most prolific trainer s quotes It s like buying a McDonald s Big Mac. If you buy one in New York City, Albuquerque, N.M., or Johnson City, Tenn., you expect pretty much the same burger. It s the same thing with an NRA training course. NRA has a long history of providing quality firearm safety training to the public, and I feel that this is the reason why NRA is often at the top of the list when states refer to firearm training provided by a national organization. 20 FRIENDS UPDATE EASTERN REGION Since its inception, Pennsylvania Friends of NRA s efforts in supporting the mission of The NRA Foundation have been consistent and impressive. One of its most noteworthy accomplishments is a dedication to its Youth Education Summit (Y.E.S.), a competitive program designed to mold high school youth into educated leaders of their generation. In late April, 19 students from across the Keystone State gathered for the 2013 PA Y.E.S. program, and it proved to be an event they will not soon forget. The students arrived eager for a packed five-day itinerary that could easily be mistakable for that of a monthlong event. Y.E.S. chaperones greeted the new class and By James Poole NRA-GO Intern, National Rifle Association STUDENTS ARRIVED EAGER FOR A PACKED FIVE-DAY ITINERARY THAT COULD EASILY BE MISTAKABLE FOR A MONTH-LONG EVENT provided an overview of the activities they would soon enjoy. Following what was surely a night of restless sleep, the students woke to breakfast and a presentation from NRA staffers highlighting youth programs available for the participants and their peers. Then, to ensure that students could conduct themselves professionally, they went through a hands-on etiquette workshop. The skills learned there were quickly put to use when participants met with state representatives and other distinguished guests throughout the week. The first outing of the summit was an afternoon on the range at the Sportsmen s Club. The enthusiastic group had the opportunity to shoot archery, air rifle, smallbore and shotgun. Skill levels varied greatly from first-time shooter to skilled marksman, but event organizers were pleased to see the camaraderie and support shared within the group. That evening, students participated in their first of three formal debates specially designed to practice research skills and public speaking as well as to stimulate political thought. A day full of activities concluded with a group discussion about a video clip on Gettysburg prefacing the next day s events. Saturday morning took the students back in time with a visit to the battlefields of Gettysburg. A presentation focused on leadership during the Civil War encouraged discussion of the evolution of leadership and the importance of being an effective leader. Later on the group met with Pennsylvania Representative Dan Moul at a nearby venue where the students contributed to an insightful question and answer session. An eventful day came to an end with the summiteers integrating the lessons learned into their second debate, presenting with the poise of a politician and the courage of a soldier. The following day began with professional training in job applications, cover letters, interview tactics and dress code valuable skills intended to benefit the students as they continue to grow professionally. In formal attire and with proficient etiquette, the students deliberated over a constitutional topic in their third and final debate before heading to dinner. The group assembled at the hotel for a formal gathering on the last evening. Students were honored for their accomplishments over the past few days, and the meal provided time for final goodbyes and fellowship. On the day of departure, students rose early for their final outing: a trip to the state capitol building. Upon arrival they had the distinguished opportunity to meet with state legislators on the senate floor an awe inspiring moment and an incredible conclusion to an exciting week. It is amazing to see the students leave with the feeling they can accomplish anything. Our hope is that in the coming weeks, months and years they will be in the professional world doing what they can to support The NRA Foundation, said event coordinator Dave Miko. Volunteers like Miko take a personal interest in developing youth leaders and encouraging kids to be active in their communities through political awareness. The participants in Pennsylvania s 2013 Y.E.S. program certainly came to understand these values and left the summit ready to take the world by storm. 21 In 2006 Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) John McDaniel purchased over 400 acres in northern Wisconsin to establish Camp Hackett and provide combatwounded veterans with quality opportunities for readjustment upon their return home. Funded by the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation (WWIAF), which was also started by McDaniel, this serene retreat is a place where veterans can enjoy and participate in various outdoor sporting activities- predominately hunting and fishing. McDaniel's inspiration for founding WWIAF and Camp Hackett comes from his experience as an army officer. He retired from the army after serving 20 years of active duty, from where his respect for service men and women followed him into civilian life. When he purchased the property in Phillips, Wis., he prepared to carry out his own personal mission. "I wanted to create a culture of service. Being able to give back to those who've given so much to this country is the least I can do," said McDaniel. "The activities provided to these heroes are opportunities to re-integrate themselves back into our society. We reinforce selfconfidence and self-reliance by exposing veterans to the outdoors." Recently, however, Camp Hackett faced the challenge of funding the development of a reliable source of cleanburning electrical power for the Warrior Bunkhouse and the Fifth Wheeler. McDaniel reached out to Mike Reed, chairman of the Price County Friends of NRA, who taught him about The NRA Foundation grant program. Intrigued by the opportunity, McDaniel quickly applied for assistance in obtaining a generator. Friends of NRA stepped up to support WWIAF and presented the program with a check for $5,000. Wisconsin Senior NRA Field Rep Scott Taetsch said that upon hearing the news of the gift announcement, McDaniel was amazed, honored and extremely pleased by the generosity. "The NRA Foundation's Wisconsin State Fund Committee and NRA Field Support Team volunteers were truly proud to assist these great American heroes," said Taetsch. "We have such an appreciation toward our armed forces and veterans and were happy to be a part of WWIAF's mission." "The Friends of NRA are just that," said McDaniel. "They are our friends, and receiving this gift was amazing." With future projects at Camp Hackett constantly in the works, and with support from Friends of NRA, WWIAF CENTRAL REGION THE NRA FOUNDATION S WISCONSIN STATE FUND COMMITTEE AND NRA FIELD SUPPORT TEAM VOLUNTEERS WERE TRULY PROUD TO ASSIST THESE GREAT AMERICAN HEROES Camp Hackett opened its doors in 2007 and welcomed two individuals, one from Alaska and one from Minnesota, to the retreat that first year. "It was a moving experience," described McDaniel. Since its first season, Camp Hackett has grown exponentially, serving more than 200 veterans over the past six years. The imaginative and humbling project of creating WWIAF was made possible by a combination of fundraising and McDaniel's personal financial assistance. Now the established 501(c)(3) utilizes various fundraisers and benefits to continue its mission of assisting veterans with a shared passion for the outdoors. will continue to serve the worthy cause of helping service men and women enjoy the American freedoms for which they've fought. 22 SOUTHERN REGION No one enjoys the outdoors quite like Georgians. They invest an extraordinary amount of time hunting, fishing and partaking in other great American outdoor traditions. Families, friends and neighbors bond over these shared values, but when it comes to organized shooting sports programs some Georgians feel there is room for improvement. Recognizing a need to grow the base of youth hunters specifically, Georgia NRA Field Rep Brad Ward wanted to implement the popular NRA program Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC). The program would promote more hunting opportunities and lead towards Ward's ultimate goal of sending Georgia's youth to the national YHEC competition at the NRA's Whittington Center in Raton, N.M. To accomplish his mission, Ward enlisted the help of Walter Lane, Georgia's Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Hunter Development Program (HDP) Manager. Formerly a quail biologist for the DNR, Lane entered his role with the HDP in 2010 with the goal of starting a program for the state's youth. He created the Hunter Education Skill Challenge, which garnered a steady following, but he envisioned more. Upon learning about YHEC, Lane immediately was interested in the project and agreed to partner with Ward. In September 2012 the two met and devised a plan on how they would effectively get more youth involved in the shooting sports. The plan involved Lane's Shooting Sports Director Jennifer Pittman, who hired five staffers to lead the project in separate regions across the state. "This plan allowed staff members to focus on starting new programs and expanding existing ones," shared Pittman. With a team in place, YHEC gained ground when it received assistance from the Georgia Friends of NRA State Fund Committee. Georgia YHEC received a grant of $20,000, and Pittman-Robertson funds expanded the grand total to $80,000, a tremendous amount of financial support that allowed the program to purchase necessary equipment and supplies. The Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration act, better known as Pittman-Robertson, earmarks the proceeds from an existing 10 percent tax on ammunition and firearms used for sport hunting for distribution to the states for wildlife restoration. In the early 1970 s, Congress expanded the program to authorize States to spend up to half those revenues on hunter education and target ranges. "We have trailers furnished with items needed to run a functional YHEC at any given time and it wouldn t have been possible without all of the funds," said Pittman. Each trailer includes firearms, archery equipment, targets, traps, ammunition, eye and ear protection, shoot and don't shoot scenario materials, and more. Now outfitted with the proper equipment, Georgia's YHEC participants explore the disciplines of shotgun, air rifle, 3-D archery, wildlife identification, tree stand safety, orienteering, and hunting responsibility and ethics. "The youth who participate in YHEC are looking to gain more knowledge to take to the field," shared Pittman. "Many of the components of YHEC give them a new awareness that they might never have received elsewhere, and they also get to meet other likeminded youth from around the state." Georgia has completed four successful YHEC events so far with over 300 participants at the first. "Over 13,000 hunter education graduates go through Georgia's YHEC program on a yearly basis, and we anticipate increasing even more in the coming years," said Pittman. With district competitions currently under way, Georgia is looking forward to hosting its first state championship this September at the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center and to sending its winners to nationals at NRA's Whittington Center. "This is the first year Georgia YHEC is progressing the way that it is," shared Ward. "The state's never had an organized structure to give the kids this opportunity to really compete, and we're excited to provide this for them." Praising the partnership between Georgia's DNR and Friends of NRA, Ward states that it has been a true blessing for the YHEC program and for all youth now faced with opportunities never previously available to them. The lifelong lessons YHEC teaches in effective and ethical hunting positively influence communities throughout Georgia and will surely continue to grow this great American outdoor tradition. 23 In the high desert of southwestern Colorado, Tia Imel is heating up the precision shooting competition. A fourth grader from Mancos, Col., she is in her third season shooting competitively in precision.22 and Air Rifle. This rising star in American sharpshooting is an accurate shot, and she s aiming high: the Olympics. Tia s father, Travis Imel, introduced her to shooting when she was just five years old, observing her natural affinity for the sport. The first time she shot she did really well, he remembers. When she was old enough I wanted her to shoot 4-H, and we got her involved in the NRA program at our club when she was eight. She was shooting an old club rifle and she excelled at that. Unable to express exactly what it is about precision shooting and shooting competitively that captures her interest, the small, shy 10-year-old simply explains, Well, I like shooting a lot. It s really, really fun. When I go to competitions I like to beat the boys and make new friends. Tia competed and placed at the 4-H State Competition during her first year and has been firing away ever since, most recently at the National Junior Olympic Championship held April 8-10, Having participated in the monthly Preliminary Tryout Tournaments at the US Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs since last September, Tia performed well at the Colorado State Junior Olympic Championships held there on Jan. 20 and was invited back for Nationals. She returned to USOTC with the goal of beating her last score from States (343) and succeeded in doing so with a scores of 345 and 361 out of 400 on days one and two of 10 meter Olympic Air Rifle. Totaling 706 points, this placed her 15th out of 22 competitors in the (J3) 14-Under an impressive accomplishment for someone competing against many older, more experienced shooters. Though she excels at both.22 and Air Rifle, Tia prefers the Air Rifle and is proud of having bought her Walther with money she raised by selling jewelry she makes herself. Tia shoots coins from 10 meters with her.22 then smoothes, polishes and finishes them off with cords or key rings. OffHand Gear donates an online shopping cart and takes care of the shipment fulfillment process, so all proceeds from purchases go directly to helping pay for Tia s shooting expenses, including her equipment, supplies and travel. Tia s quickly progressing talent finds a home on the Junior Shooters team at Four Corners Rifle & Pistol Club (FCRPC) of Cortez, Col., an organization first started 50 years ago to expand shooting sports and education for children. The club program, which greatly contributed to Tia s growth in the sport, has received multiple grants from Friends of NRA. All those grants, including the $5,500 FCRPC received in 2012, have been allocated to focus on the youth and have gone back into infrastructure for the club. Funding from Friends of NRA has contributed to a new ventilation system for the indoor range as well as rifles, ammunition and other supplies. Without the support of Friends of NRA, we wouldn t have the infrastructure to operate a successful Junior Shooting Program, explains Imel, an NRA instructor at FCRPC. The Friends of NRA was instrumental in building our new 50 meter outdoor, youth-dedicated Rimfire range. Tia s training as she continues her journey to the Olympics will no doubt benefit from the well designed, state-of-the-art range. This small sharpshooter has a big competitive shooting career ahead of her, and support from Friends of NRA is helping make that possible. Let the NRA help you train to become an Olympic Shooter! The NRA Foundation s grant funds help support programs that educate and train in the safe, effective use of firearms. 24 WESTERN REGION Holding the number one state dinner in the Central California area for the past nine years and consistently raising over $100,000 per event since 2007 are impressive accomplishments in themselves. However, this year the Paso Robles Friends of NRA truly outdid itself. They were able to exceed an ambitious personal goal of raising $150,000 net at their banquet on March 2, Under the leadership of Chairman Noel Ryan, the Paso Robles committee hosted the highest-netting event ever in California. Co-Chair David Marquez had left his committee members speechless when he boldly stated at the year s first meeting his belief that they could reach $150,000 in The skeptical, but excited, committee was happy to be proved wrong in the end when 745 banquet attendees generated a record-breaking $152,000 for The NRA Foundation. Shortly after achieving their goal, the Paso Robles Friends of NRA had more good news to celebrate. Friends of NRA announced its 2012 Volunteers of the Year in May and recognized Ryan as the Central California area Volunteer of the Year. When Noel was selected as Volunteer of the Year for 2012 it really came as no surprise, commented Marquez. I'm sure there are many members who work hard and contribute to their committees, but it would be hard to find anyone else who is more deserving! Marquez, along with the Paso Robles committee and community, was extremely proud to hear that Ryan was acknowledged for his significant contributions to Friends of NRA. Having a [chairman] of our committee like Noel Ryan makes it easy to do the best you can, expressed Marquez. He is the type of leader that leads by example; no one works harder than he does. Ryan displayed this leadership during the preparation for this year s event. He focused on early interest-raising efforts, and the committee excelled at up-selling valueadded tables and even had the unique opportunity to sell a premium table that included AR Lowers. By speaking personally with many patrons about the fundraising focus of the event and the importance of raising money for the Friends of NRA cause, Ryan helped bring the sales of preevent packages and dinner tickets to $115,000. Ryan s daughter Carin Ryan explained that also contributing to this year s record-breaking success were returning attendees who seemed to step up their monetary commitment. The current climate coupled with an upturn in our local economy created the perfect environment for Second Amendment enthusiasm. Marquez reveals, Our accomplishment would have been more difficult without the support of Tom Fowler. A successful local business owner and a huge supporter of the Friends of NRA, Fowler played a major role in the record-high fundraising. He purchased three Gold Plus Supporter dinner table packages through his company King Oil Tools, and with the additional contributions made by Fowler and his guests at the event itself, his donations totaled $31,000. With merchandise including pieces from local companies Weatherby and Hogue Inc., the night s silent auction garnered $11,000, and the live auction brought in $67,000. Weatherby provided the Paso Robles committee with one-of-a-kind pieces at great discounts, and Hogue Inc. donated over 10 guns to the Youth Raffle. The night of the event, the energy in the room was palpable, remembers the committee. Money was flowing freely and the event was full of people who were passionate about our cause. We felt like this was our chance to make a difference and we did, in a big way! We look forward to matching our $150,000 record in Join the fundraising bandwagon and attend an upcoming Friends of NRA banquet in California! 27 After taking everything into consideration, those two NRA staffers realized that they couldn t create one of these events. So they created two. We looked at the guns, looked at the competitions and talked to the competitors, explained Andy Lander, Recreational Shooting Specialist for the new NRA Sports Department. That s when we came up with NRA 3GE. NRA 3GE (NRA 3-Gun Events) focuses on the new and intermediate shooter. With easy to navigate courses and a departure from traditional 3-Gun firearms, NRA 3GE provides a less intimidating platform for the inexperienced competitor, especially when it comes to the guns. Instead of using a 9mm pistol or an AR-15, NRA 3GE utilizes firearms that are easier for the novice shooter to control, said Lander. Specifically,.22s and Airsoft. An easier shot, but not an easy start to the planning. First on the list was acquiring the guns. While there were plenty of.22 rifles and pistols to be found around the NRA, the Airsoft versions were a different story. The questions quickly multiplied: where to get them, how to test them and where to test them. As with most projects, trial and error was the way to go. The first few Airsoft guns were not my favorite, laughed fellow Recreational Shooting Specialist Samantha Olsen. They looked great, they felt great, but they didn t perform all that well during the trial runs. The first test run took place at NRA Headquarters in Fairfax, Va. NRA employees arrived early and lined up to give 3GE a try, with Airsoft in the classroom and.22s on the range. The buzzer sounded and off they went. Participants aimed from behind barricades, ran from station to station, identified targets and fired away. First time competitors were jazzed by the run while veteran shooters were surprised by the challenge. But there were still a few wrinkles to iron out. After speaking with their colleagues about the event, Lander and Olsen discovered two primary problems: the targets and the guns. The usual steel targets would not work for the.22 or the Airsoft. Neither gun had the requisite firepower to knock down the steel or produce a ping that can be heard through standard ear protection. As if that wasn t enough, the guns themselves experienced a few hiccups too. The Airsoft pistols kept jamming on us, said Olsen. They just couldn t keep up with the constant use. And the shotgun was almost impossible to pump. But that s why we try these things out before unleashing them on the public. After another dry run, NRA 3GE was ready for the national stage. Leaving the.22s at home, Andy and Samantha welcomed more than 1,000 kids to the inaugural NRA Youth Day at the Annual Meeting in Houston. Not only were they providing a new 3-Gun experience for the kids, but they were also offering the chance to shoot under the watchful eyes of Gabby, Dustin and Chris from History Channel s Top Shot. The kids really loved it, said Lander. The new Airsoft guns worked great, the new target system was pinging away, and the gang from Top Shot had a blast while passing on the fundamentals. After the enthusiastic reception at the NRA Annual Meeting, NRA 3GE is hitting the road. With target systems, ammunition and guns in tow, Samantha and Andy are headed to events in West Virginia, Illinois and all points beyond. Their only remaining challenge is overcoming the limits of their imagination. We can do just about anything with NRA 3GE, Olsen said. We can safely set up a.22 course on a traditional range or an Airsoft course inside any office complex. The point is that we can now create a 3-Gun experience anywhere for anyone. How cool is that? Take part in an upcoming NRA 3GE event or bring the competition to your club or range! NRA 3GE provides a competitive, action packed experience like no other, for new and intermediate shooters. 28 INDUSTRY CORNER

ince opening its doors in 1989, Diamondback Manufacturing, LLC, a manufacturer and custom metal fabricator in the airboat industry, is now a new partner with Friends of NRA. Commonly known as Diamondback Airboats, the company is a familyoperated business headed by President Bobby Fleckinger. From a young age, Fleckinger possessed talent and skill for building things. It led him to his first job building airboats and then a career that has developed into something bigger than he could have imagined. In its first few years Diamondback produced about three boats per year for local customers and now averages nearly four boats per week. The flourishing business has grown to accommodate the needs of individuals across the country, international companies, and agencies including the US Department of the Interior, US Border Patrol, and Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, among others. Diamondback resides on an eight-acre complex that houses numerous machines, employs an experienced staff of over 130, and maintains technologically advanced software. The capability to complete projects start to finish in one place allows Diamondback to proclaim its products as Made in America. Our craftsmanship starts with the amazing team of employees we have, said Fleckinger. They re dedicated to being the best craftsmen they can be. By 2009 Diamondback Manufacturing had established three subsidiaries: Diamondback Towers, LLC; Diamondback CNC, LLC; and Diamondback Firearms, LLC. This expansion led Diamondback to revise its mission to include accommodating the growing demand for handguns and accessories. The company s most recent business move was establishing a relationship between Diamondback Firearms and Taurus in January Through this association, Taurus has assumed all sales and marketing of Diamondback products. This was a great day for Diamondback, shares Fleckinger. Taurus has opened markets that we never knew existed. With their resources and sales assistance, combined with our engineering and production capabilities, we know that the future is endless. Diamondback joined Friends ever-growing network in the fall of Fleckinger initially got in touch with NRA to express his interest in donating 20 firearms to Florida Friends of NRA and was then contacted by NRA Southern Region Director Al Hammond and NRA Field Operations National Manager of Events & Marketing John da Silva. Bobby made it clear that he wanted to support Friends of NRA as best he could, said da Silva. Approaching him with the option to go national with our program was the next step to take. Friends of NRA already had an established relationship with Taurus, and Diamondback s recent partnering with that company made it a natural fit, according to Hammond. Securing this relationship provides firearms to Friends of NRA along with Rossi and Heritage Firearms, and we are thrilled to see what happens, said da Silva. The group strategized and determined items that could be featured at Friends of NRA events, such as 9mm pistols and FDE AR-15 rifles. During the meeting it became apparent to da Silva that Diamondback wanted to do something more substantial. Their donation of a custom airboat was made in hopes that others would follow. Diamondback wanted to do something different to help NRA, said Fleckinger. We got our design team to work with Friends of NRA and came up with the amazing finished product. Working with John and his team made doing this a very easy process. The company s presence in the Gulf area made it ideal for the donation to be featured at The National NRA Foundation Banquet in Houston,. The one-of-a-kind airboat, sized at nearly 20 x 8, boasted a supercharged 550 HP 6.2L engine and a polished stainless structure featuring an NRA themed wrap along its hull. Additionally, the exciting piece was equipped with a CH4 2.52:1 Belt Drive Reduction unit to provide the boat with extra torque and high horsepower as well as Sensenich 4 Blade R Series 84 3D fabric Duraskin propellers for top end speed. With accessories like four stainless steel pull-up cleats, side-by-side rear operator and front passenger seating, and a Sony Radio with four Wetdouns speakers, amp, and subwoofer, the NRA Diamondback Airboat was ready to entertain guests in Houston. The eye-catching airboat was displayed in the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, and it not only attracted the attention of the thousands in attendance, but also raised nearly $70,000 as the featured Live Auction Showcase Item. We appreciate the commitment displayed by Diamondback and look forward to working with them in the future, said Hammond. With the support of Diamondback and other companies in the Friends of NRA family, Friends of NRA and The NRA Foundation are able to advance more shooting programs, educate and train more individuals, and create new opportunities for the future of shooting sports across the country.
