Started by Paul and Adele Nealon in 1997, we will be carrying on the tradition of an Owner s rally here at the farm. This year we are aiming for a record attendance. Even if you no longer own a coach, please consider coming and joining in the festivities. So far this year we have expanded the AVF family to include 6 new owners. How nice it would be for the new owners to meet those of us that are Adele & Paul Nealon the history of AVF. Paul and Adele will be here to help reminisce. Bring a favorite story or some pictures to show our new owners that they have become a part of a very special place. So mark your calendar and come to join in the fun. 2 PAGE 2 Rally Particulars Many of us typically come to AVF for the whole week prior to the announced dates. This is very good because it gives you a chance to really get to know each other and to see all the wonderful things that the area has to offer. It is also a great time to bring friends to help enjoy this beautiful season. Officially the rally will start on Thursday, October 17th with a dinner at The Lodge on Lake Lure. 3 PAGE 3 Acupuncture Questions and Answers with Autumn Zamzow of Jade Turtle A fall snow skiing accident resulted in a shoulder injury which caused Autumn pain for months. A er numerous trips to doctors and various forms of physical therapy, she was s ll in so much pain she could hardly li a telephone. Autumn decided to try acupuncture out of despera on. A er the first treatment her pain level had decreased and a er a few more treatments the pain was gone and she knew that her shoulder was healed. Her first acupuncture experience a few years earlier was not so pleasant. That experience taught her the importance of helping her pa ents understand the logic of the treatment, how it is expected to work, and what they might expect to feel. She is commi ed to making each new pa ent feel safe and comfortable. Autumn is generously dona ng her me to explain how acupuncture works and allow you to ask ques ons. She has been prac cing in Lake Lure, NC for eleven years. Her class will be at the barn, Thurs 3 4pm. Thank God for acupuncture. It s been around for 2000 years. It s not going anyplace and people use it all of the time for a variety of cures and to avoid illnesses. Tree Tops Dining at the historic Lodge on Lake Lure The Lodge on Lake Lure was built in the 1930 s by the North Carolina Highway Patrol as a retreat for patrolmen and their families. They would fly in by seaplane and spend time with their families and other officers relaxing and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. The Lodge opened to the public in As the only lakefront lodging in Lake Lure, it offers a uniquely relaxing experience to its visitors. From the Tree Tops Dining Room guests get a breathtaking view of Lake Lure and Hickory Nut Gorge mountains. Executive Chef Philippe Frespech, from France, will lead the team to prepare our opening Thursday night meal. Chef Philippe s specialties are variations of fresh local produce prepared with French Finesse! This is the perfect place to make new friendships and renew old ones. The word "yoga" comes from the Sanskrit root "yuj", which means "to yoke" the spirit and physical body together. Yoga energizes our bodies and calms our minds. Madonna Blasucci from Travelers Rest, SC has been practicing yoga for 20 years and has been a certified yoga instructor for the past 3 years. Join Madonna on Friday and Saturday morning at 8:30 for an hour of simple stretching, breathing and meditating. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat or towel. Yoga is not a religion. It is a science, science of well-being, science of youthfulness, science of integrating body, mind and soul.

Huckleberry's Restaurant, located in our farm house, began in January 2011, by an amazing 16 year old, Michaila Cowles Cosmus. Since grade school, Michaila had known that she wanted to become a Chef and during her high Friday s Lunch by the new kid on the block Huckleberry s owner Michaila and staff school sophomore year she determinedly got herself accepted into the Johnson & Wales Culinary University early admission program in Charlotte. After her remarkable accomplishments there, which can be seen on her website she graduated in February 2013, with her A.S. degree in Culinary Arts. She has since returned to The ins and outs of using the Pontoon school and received 2 more degrees. Chef Steven will be creating mouth-watering sandwiches, a scrumptious tomato basil bisque, and heavenly desserts for lunch. Lunch will be at 12:30 pm after the POA meeting. Anyone that would like to know how to use the pontoon should meet Don Buschini at the clubhouse on Friday at 2:00 pm. Don will explain the procedures for reserving the boat, checking it out, what keys you need, where the pontoon is docked, what to do about payment and fueling and then, weather permi ng, give a endees the opportunity to do some naviga ng. If you have never used our boat, this is a great me to have a seasoned boater help you learn the ropes. All new owners are encouraged to take this class. (This class is for owners only.) Golfer or not, join the Mini Golf Competition On Friday 4:00 6:00 come to the miniature golf compeon at Rumbling Bald. Show off your skills or just enjoy the a ernoon with friends. Any way you look at it, it can be a pleasant me. Scenic Boat Tour of Lake Lure The tours are led by a captain who gives a lively, fully narrated 1-1/2 hour tour of the lake. Our rally rate is $15 per person. Four to 14 passengers are required for each trip. The tours are being offered at two times on Saturday, 10:30 to noon and 1:00 to 2:30. 5 Computer Usage and Phone Apps for Travelers PAGE 5 In May, Apple Valley Farm Motorcoach Resort got a website make over. It now has a completely new look and highlights the partnership between AVF and Rumbling Bald. During this class, Graham Ricks will show you how to navigate the new website and as a bonus show you phone apps to help with your RVing travels. The class is from 10:30 11:30 Saturday morning. If you sign up for this class and want to do the boat tour too, then you will need to be on the a ernoon lake tour. Afternoon tea As much as you can eat healthy, it s also important to remember to drink healthy too. Tea is very healing. From 1:30 2:30 on Saturday a ernoon come to the clubhouse for an informa onal tea party. Mary Catherine Ricks will talk about all the different kinds of teas, how they are made and how to prepare them. She will be serving samples in some of her favorite China teacups. Come see teas that bloom like flowers and even taste the tea used in the Japanese tea ceremony. If you sign up for this class and want to do the boat tour too, then you will need to be on the morning lake tour. Hey Sara, should we let the other dogs join in on the Dog Competition event? Dear AVF dogs, We have finally convinced our parents to let us have a chance to show how smart and talented we are by having our very own event during the rally. Mom, (AKA Nancy Buschini) has agreed to help us have a dog compeon during the rally. Our event will be held at lot 118 on Saturday a ernoon from 3:00 4:30. Yippee!! We are so excited about this rally because we know that all our friends will be there to par cipate in all the ac vi es. Mom s talking about obstacle courses, ribbons, toys and treats! So dust off your best ou it and sharpen up your tricks so we can show all the 2 legged folks how adorable we really are. Your canine hostesses, Casey and Sara PS: All non pet owners are welcome to join the fun. Please grab your chair and come to lot 118. Compeon will start at 3:30 so please arrive by 3:15. We want you to join us for our Caribbean Surprise Meal Bruce and Tina Ahart, from Luna Del Sol, will be furnishing our meal Saturday night. Bruce is from Chicago and Tina hails from Puerto Rico. They met in Miami where Bruce was in college studying hotel management and Tina, cosmetology. After an unsuccessful attempt to get Tina to do his nails, Bruce quickly won a first date with her to a gourmet restaurant, Wendy s. They first came to Lake Lure on vacation in November of 1991 and loved the area, returning often until they moved here in They began their restaurant career here in 2006 and quickly became a favorite of the AVF owners. The Caribbean Surprise will be some of Tina s favorite recipes from home. After dinner she will tell us the ingredients. Meet at the barn at 5:00. See what Tina and Bruce have whipped up for you to eat. Let s start a fall tradition: Campfires and S mores by the Dam! Matt and Joyce Tucker from Columbia, SC will be hosting this event.
