7 Support Staff Deb Graff Athletic Trainer 11th Season Western Washington 91 Deb Graff is in her 11th season as the OSU gymnastics trainer. During her time at OSU, she also has worked with several other sports, including volleyball, swimming and men s and women s crew. Graff joined the Oregon State training staff after working a year and a half as an assistant trainer at the University of Miami, where she worked with women s basketball, men s track and tennis. A graduate of Western Washington University, Deb received a B.A. degree in Exercise Science in She worked as a student athletic trainer while in school and became certifi ed by the National Athletic Trainers Association in From there, she attended graduate school at Syracuse University where she earned a Master s degree in Exercise Science in As a graduate assistant trainer at Syracuse, Graff was the trainer for volleyball and fi eld hockey. A native of Battle Ground, Wash., Deb graduated from Battle Ground High School where she was a member of the golf and basketball teams. Formerly Debra Crisp, she is married to Barney Graff, also an athletic trainer at OSU. Deb and Barney have two sons, Mitchell (5) and Jake (3). Jennie Thompson Strength & Conditioning Coach 6th Season Oregon State 05 Jennie Thompson begins her sixth season at Oregon State in a new role. Jennie was hired as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at OSU in September. Her experience in the sport of gymnastics is already paying dividends for the 2006 squad as Thompson has redesigned the gymnasts entire strength and conditioning program. Thompson is also assigned to work with Oregon State s men s and women s golf teams, men s crew, women s soccer and women s cross country programs. She brings a wealth of international experience into the gym, as she spent eight years on the U.S. National Team. She was a member of the 1997 and 1999 U.S. World Champinships Teams, and she won a bronze medal in the all-around at the 1999 Pan-American Games. she was also the all-around champion at the 1999 Visa American Cup. Thompson won the all-around at the 1996 and 1998 U.S. Classics, and she was third at the john Hancock U.S. Championships in In addition, she place fi rst on bars and was third on beam at the 1999 U.S. Championships. Jennie was an excellent all-around gymnast, but her favorite event was vault. She was a 2000 Olympic hopeful, bu becuase of a sever ankle injury, she was unable to compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials. she retired from gymnastics and decided to pursue her college academic career at Oregon State where she graduated in June Thompson, who attended Colerain High School, trained at the Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy under 1996 U.S. Olympic coach Mary Lee Tracy. Bea Whisenhunt Director of Operations 2nd Season Oregon State 00 Bea is in her second season back at Oregon State. In 2005, Bea served as the volunteer coach concentrating on the balance beam performers. This year, Bea has taken on a new role for the program as Director of Operations. One of her biggest projects this season is coordinating for the NCAA Championships. Whisenhunt competed for the Beavers from and again in 2000 after missing the 1999 season because of injury. The native of Romania was most known for her skills on the balance beam. In 2000, she tied her career-high of on the event at the NCAA West Regional Championships to help earn the Beavers a trip to the NCAA Championships for the fi rst time since 1996, when she was a freshman. A former Romanian junior national team member and national champion on bars, Whisenhunt moved to the United States as a teenager, living with another former Beaver gymnast Heather Justus family while training at the Oregon Gymnastics Academy. Whisenhunt graduated from Oregon State with a degree in exercise and sport science in She is married to former OSU wrestler Josh Whisenhunt. They have a two children, Gabe (2) and Lylianna (3 months). Jason Amberg Asst. Sports Information Director 2nd Season Washington State 04 Jason Amberg is in his second season as the OSU gymnastics media contact. He also works with Oregon State s volleyball and men s and women s rowing programs. In addition, Amberg assists at home football games and is responsible for designing OSU s football media guide. Amberg joined the Oregon State sports information staff in December 2004 after working six months as an athletic media relations assistant at Portland State where he worked with volleyball, wrestling, men s and women s cross country and men s and women s track and fi eld. A graduate of Washington State University, Jason received a B.A. in Sport Management in He worked as a student assistant while at WSU, working with men s and women s cross country and assisting with women s soccer and football. He also assisted in hosting the NCAA Men s Basketball First and Second Rounds at Spokane, Wash. in 2003 and again worked the tournament at Seattle in While attending school at WSU, he also interned in the sports information offi ce at the University of Idaho. At UI, Jason assisted at home events for men s and women s basketball and men s and women s indoor track and fi eld. He also restored all of UI s records for swimming and diving as the Vandals were reinstating the sport for the fi rst time since the 80s. A native of Corvallis, Jason graduated from Crescent Valley High School before serving six years in the U.S. Navy. After receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy in September 1999, Amberg attended Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Ore. He earned his associate s degree with emphasis in journalism from LBCC in 2002 before transferring to Washington State. Jason and Aret, his wife of two years, live in Corvallis. 22
