1 Herkimer Elementary School Newsletter 2018 Dear Parents and Guardians, I hope this newsletter finds everyone ready for a sunny spring and final eight weeks of school. The end of the third marking period has come to a close and your child should have brought home his/her report card. Congratulations to all students on their hard work and individual achievements. I d like to acknowledge all of the students who received perfect attendance, High Honors, and Honor Roll, way to go! Testing Tuesday, May 1 through Thursday, May 3 students in grades 3-6 will take the New York State Mathematics Assessment. Fourth grade students will take the New York State Science Performance Assessment on May 23 and the New York State Science Written Assessment on June 4. All students in grades K-6 will take the end of year STAR Assessment. This on-line assessment is used to measure student growth over the course of the school year. Clothing As the weather begins to get warmer, please have your child dress in an appropriate manner. Student clothing should promote thoughtful and modest choices (examples: shoulder straps at least 2 inches wide, necklines should not be revealing, no midriff shirts, no hats, no shorts, skorts, skirts, or dresses shorter than fingertip length). The dress and grooming code is not meant to be restrictive, but is intended to guide students and their parents/guardians in choosing clothing that is safe and appropriate to wear in school. Students are expected to observe basic standards of cleanliness, modesty, and good grooming. Carnation Sale A carnation sale will be held Friday, May 11 in honor of Mother s Day. Students can purchase carnations for $1 in the cafetorium. Proceeds will benefit The Ride for Missing and Exploited Children. As always, if you have any specific questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child s teacher or the main office.
