5 MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS CARE AND MAINTENANCE CHECK ALL NUTS AND BOLTS TWICE MONTHLY DURING THE USAGE SEASON FOR TIGHTNESS AND TIGHTEN AS REQUIRED. IT IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT THAT THIS PROCEDURE BE FOLLOWED AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH SEASON. Never use pliers to tighten up screws these can cause damage to both the paintwork and the special anticorrosion plating. Tighten all nuts and bolts securely. Replace as needed. If not checked regularly, bolts can be loose or missed and components can become detached and cause injuries. Check the swing seats, metal chains, slide, climbing net and rock climber at the beginning of the usage season and monthly thereafter for evidence of deterioration. Immediately remove and replace any items that appear to be weak or broken. Contact Customer Support for replacement parts. Check all covers designed for bolts and sharp edges regularly to be certain they are present and in good condition. Replace as needed. It is particularly important that all covers are checked prior to the first use each season. Inspect chains, s-hooks, brackets, eyebolts, swing bearings, hardware and ground anchors, and etc., for proper closure and for signs of wear, deterioration, rust and/or damage. Replace as needed. Lubricate all metallic moving parts monthly during the usage season. Check all metal tubing and slide chute for damage and sharp edges. Replace as needed. Applying a light coat of automobile wax to all metal tubing surfaces will help protect your unit and add to its longevity. Sand any rusted areas of the metal tubing and repaint using a non-lead based paint meeting the requirements of Title 16 CFR Part If slide chute is exposed to direct sunlight, always check to make sure it is not too hot for children to use. If the slide chute is hot, pour cold water on the slide chute until it cools. Check slide chute periodically during use. Remove plastic plays (swing seats, trapeze, rock climber & slide) and store indoors, or do not use when the temperature drops below 32 F/0 C. Check unit for scuffs, burrs, sharp edges and any other defects that may occur from assembly, abuse, shipping or everyday use. Burrs and sharp edges may be filed down until smooth and covered with duct tape if necessary. If the warning sticker is illegible, destroyed or removed, contact Customer Support for a replacement. 7 CONSUMER INFORMATION FOR PLAYGROUND SURFACING MATERIALS¹ The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) estimates that about 100,000 playground equipment related injuries resulting from falls to the ground surface are treated annually in U.S. hospital emergency rooms. Injuries involving this hazard pattern tend to be among the most serious of all playground injuries, and have the potential to be fatal, particularly when the injury is to the head. The surface under and around playground equipment can be a major factor in determining the injury-causing potential of a fall. It is self evident that a fall onto a shock-absorbing surface is less likely to cause a serious injury than a fall onto a hard surface. Playground equipment should never be placed on a hard surface such as concrete or asphalt and while grass may appear to be acceptable it may quickly turn to hard packed earth in areas of high traffic. Shredded bark mulch, wood chips, fine sand or fine gravel are considered to be acceptable shock absorbing surfaces when installed and maintained at a sufficient depth under and around playground equipment. The following table lists the maximum height from which a child would not be expected to sustain a life-threatening head injury in a fall onto different loose-fill surfacing materials if they are installed and maintained at depths of 6, 9 and 12 inches. However, it should be recognized that all injuries due to falls cannot be prevented no matter what surfacing material is used. TABLE 1 - FALL HEIGHT IN FEET FROM WHICH A LIFE THREATENING HEAD INJURY WOULD NOT BE EXPECTED Type of Material 6 in. depth 9 in. 12 in. Double Shredded Bark Mulch Wood Chips Fine Sand Fine Gravel Shredded Tires*** N/A N/A It is recommended that a shock-absorbing material should extend a minimum of 6 ft. in all directions from the perimeter of stationary equipment such as climbers and slides. However, because children may deliberately jump from a moving swing, the shock-absorbing materials should extend in the front and rear of a swing a minimum distance of 2 times the height of the pivot point measured from a point directly beneath the pivot point on the supporting structure. This information is intended to assist in comparing the relative shock-absorbing properties of various materials. No particular material is recommended over another. However, each material is only effective when properly maintained. Materials should be checked periodically and replenished to maintain correct depth as determined necessary for your equipment. The choice of a material depends on the type and height of the playground equipment, the availability of the material in your area and its cost. ¹This information has been extracted from the CPSC publications Playground Surfacing Technical Information Guide and Handbook for Public Playground Safety. Copies of these documents can be obtained by sending a postcard to the: Office of Public Affairs, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Washington, DC or by calling the toll free hotline: Note: The maximum fall height for this product is 7 feet 9 ½ inches. (93.5 ) We recommend using 12 of Double Shredded Bark Mulch. The minimum ground clearance between the bottom of the suspended plays and the playing or ground surface MUST be 8 inches. 7

8 SPACE REQUIREMENTS It is very important that you take care in placement of the playground equipment. 10 TIPS FOR EASY ASSEMBLY During the manufacturing process of punching holes in the tubular metal, the metal tabs occasionally remain attached. To ease assembly, check all metal tubing and clear holes with a screwdriver (not included) per Diagram A. If there are burrs or rough parts, you will need a metal file to remove them prior to use. Diagram A To ease assembly with tubing interlocks, holes have to be aligned. Insert crimped (swaged) tubing inside second tubing and align holes. Insert screwdriver to align holes correctly before inserting hardware. See Diagram B. Align the inner hexagonal nut and the lock washer in a straight line and insert these to the holes of the joined tubing. Then, insert the screw from the other end of the hole and hand thread to fasten them together. Now, use Allen wrench (included) and screwdriver (not included) to tighten fully. See Diagram C. Diagram B Screw Inner hexagonal nut Lock washer Extra nuts and bolts are included for spare parts and replacement. Please save for future use.
