2 Season Update First Team P A G E 2 Since the last newsletter, the Saturday 1sts have played 10 games which they have had 3 24 point victories versus Barby, Pak Shaheen and league leaders Solihull Blossomfield. They have also enjoyed a winning draw away at Atherstone who were 9 wickets down at the time. Three losing draws where the 1sts came within a whisker of snatching victory, meant that the last 2 months could have had a distinctly different outlook. 2 defeats against perennial tough opponents Southam and high flying Marston Green as well as a postponement against Warwick sees the 1sts lie in mid table with 7 games to go. Notable recent performances of note are: James Bradin 134* & 114 as well as 2 other 50s Craig Wood hit 94 to win the game at Pak Shaheen Ollie Freeman has had two 4 wicket hauls as well as a 5 for Glenn Humphries scored his first 50 for the 1sts The Sunday side have played some excellent cricket, even if results do not reflect this. The team have played some very strong sides often with professionals and have equipped themselves very well. The clear highlight has been the victory over the Mighty Walsall by 5 wickets. Other victories versus Bloxwich have led to the boys scrapping for their lives in the top division. The experience though has done this young side the world of good. Second Team The last ten games have seen the 2nds win 5, 3 losing draws and lose 2. They have already surpassed their points total for last season and still have 7 games to go. Their victories have come against Southam, Old Eds, S h e l d on M ar lb o r ou gh, Marston Green and Studley. The losing draws against Rugby and Knowle Village required the boys to dig in while the other draw against Lyndworth saw the lads fall an agonisingly 19 runs short of victory. Two defeats to Walsall YMF and Pickwick complete the sequence and the 2s are looking forward to the rematches. Jamie Palmer returned 6 for 36 as well as some useful runs Duncan Coley carried on his fine form with a few 50s. Mosef s Sunday squad have not managed to play many games this season due to other teams dropping out and cancellations. They have managed to win 2 of their last 5 games against Wall and Burntwood. Mo has certainly led from the front with both runs and wickets. He has been helped along the way by key contributions from Gerald Cunningham and future star Taran Gill. Third Team The 3rd team revolution under Stocko continues as his side go from strength to strength. Their last 10 games have seen Stocko s Superstars win 5 of them. Even more amazingly, these 5 victories were consecutive. A Bronze CC 3rd team record. They have also had a dominating winning draw which saw them declare on 268 for 3 with run machine Karthik Kamalakannan remaining unbeaten on 101*. The bowling department has also been highly effective with the wickets being regularly shared out. The boys have 3 games to go and are still an outside bet for promotion. Notable performaces have come from: Karthik Kamalkannan who has scored 340 runs at an average of 68. Mo Kasujee has taken 16 wickets as well as scoring a career best 73. Sam Foster-Stanton has taken 10 wickets. Captain Jack Stocking leads the way in the club with catches with a mesmeric Hero.

The club currently have 5 adult sides and 4 junior ones and we have a reputation for producing home grown talent as the majority of adult players are graduates of the youth system. Currently, the newsletter is sent to over 120 members and the website has had 71,000 hits since its creation in Our Twitter profile has over 750 followers, while our Facebook group has 60 members. Hopefully you can see the potential this opportunity has and the amount of people that would see your advert. Nowadays cricket sides have a full clothing range from playing shirts, trousers and jumpers to training wear and leisure wear enabling everyone to show off their cricketing allegiance. Bronze currently has space for sponsors on all of our clothing range. There is an opportunity for 250 Bronze members to wear clothing branded with your logo. Match Ball Sponsor As match ball sponsor you would be doing us the kind honour of providing all of match balls for the season. It is Warwickshire league rules to provide 2 new balls per game, one for each innings. To enforce this rule all match balls must be purchased directly from the Warwickshire league Junior Section Sponsor As Junior Section sponsor you would be greatly helping the development of future generations of young cricketers. The Bronze Junior Section take great pride in giving young boys and girls the opportunity to play cricket and to help them develop their skills. 5 P A G E 5 Junior News This year s Junior Presentation takes place at The Anson on Sunday 18th August As last year, there will be a Dads v Lads game or games (depending on numbers) and then the award ceremony will be after. If you would like to take part in the game please let Barry Wood know by the usual means or send an to the club bronzecricketclub@yahoo.co.uk. Remember that it is not only Dads who can take part, the more the merrier! Last year was a lot of fun so we would like to invite all juniors to attend this special day. 5

Those wiling to participate need to let your captains know or the club. Can JB hold on to his crown.. 16 players compete. Drawn to play 1v1 until a final pair is reached. 1 x 8 ball over is bowled. Bowler can decide from which end Max 10 fielders (not including bowler or wk). Must have minimum of 6 inside 30m circle. Bowler sets own field. Rotate the fielders at end of each pair. Lose 5 runs for every dismissal. Can only be run out at end running to. Only bat at one end. In the event of a tie, person with fewest dismissals progresses. If still equal, then a 4 ball Super over will be bowled at each other. If still tied, then flip of a coin. Normal rules of cricket apply. Wides and No balls are 1 run each and will be bowled again until 8 legitimate deliveries have been bowled. Front foot no balls will be followed by a free hit. 10 fielders at any time (not including bowler or wicketkeeper). Matches in QF onwards will involve a toss to decide who bats first 7

8 P A G E 8 Player Profile This month we talk to a man who is as Bronze as they come, Jon Macey. Nickname? Jonty or Jonners and used to be Jonty Rhodes. Still could be I suppose Current bat? County Glory Cyclone. Very nice so far. At least it lasted longer than 2 balls, unlike the last one First bat? Duncan Fearnley Colt. Was an absolute plank but I didn't have to bat with the likes of the Chambers Twins and Nathan Lamey in the U13s Best performance? Has to be back when I bowled. Opening the bowling for the 1s on a Saturday against Aston Manor when I was 18. Bowling from the wrong end aswell. Thanks Lloydy. Why did he get to choose? Anyway, 6 overs, 6 wickets and 18 runs later I entered the annals of time. I had to stop due to the stupid bowling directives as well. Also 15 overs, 3 for 36 on 2nd XI bowling debut before said directives. Favourite ground? Clichéd but it has to be the illustrious Bronze. I haven't played on a consistently truer pitch than ours. Beautiful pitch, glorious outfield and delicious surroundings. Proved last Saturday when I left a ball on length and true to form it went whistling a foot over middle. Cricket hero and why? Difficult one really. Don't really consider myself having a hero as such. If I have to choose then it would probably be James Anderson. The consistency that man has brought to his bowling is amazing. Considering they were calling him tosh in his early days. He has single-handedly got the England bowlers to where they are. Maybe with a little help from Graeme Swann. Favourite cricket memory? One for the older members. Dean "Pembo" Pemberton back peddling to take a catch at Long On and going straight through the fence into the field. Better than JBs version because we thought JB had actually killed himself. Also the same Pembo squaring up to someone and asking another player to fetch "an ambulance and 2 coppers" Funniest man at Bronze? Another cliché but has to be Craig Wood. If you can filter out most of the rubbish there are some absolute nuggets in there Does a straight ball swing? Ha. Very good question. I am of the opinion that there are 2 definitions of a "straight" ball. One that is directed towards the stumps i.e. straight but also a ball that doesn't swing i.e. straight. Therefore by definition, you can have a straight straight ball, a nonstraight straight ball, a non-straight swinging ball and a straight swinging ball Other sports or hobbies? As many probably know I am also a very keen rugby player. I currently represent the 1st XV of Handsworth Rugby Club down next to the Bell Pub. I am in my 7th season there now and the camaraderie is awesome including epic drinking sessions. I feel that I bring a little bit of the rugby gayness into the cricket changing room especially as I'm the only one who takes a shower at Bronze. 10 P A G E 10 Ask Woody Hello one and all, its that time again. I'm here currently sunning myself on a barge in the Walsall Wharf Waterside Haven, John Craven. Not unlike Vinegars. Its a perfect day to answer your questions, but firstly I'd like to finger you in the direction on my new Twitter So now without further ado I'll commence the answering..... Who copyrighted the copyright symbol? I can answer this question with formidable accuracy. It has never been copyrighted or trademarked. But that's not to say that Byker Grove won't accept the answer of "Peter Andre created the symbol after he inverted his curtain fringe on a walterz in the dark". I can't say as I have an opinion on that. Why is it a tv set when there's only one? I believe this to be another of life's Americanisms. Such as fatness, fakeness, and light beer. But the later is actually fairly nice I've been told by Des O'Connor. Another time when 'set' can be used is when one finds oneself describing a large ornate arrangement of teeth in someone's trap. Why is an alarm clock going "off" when it actually turns on? I'd have to say that I don't have an alarm clock so I'd only be guessing if I tried to answer this. So I spoke to my old mate Andy McNab and he said the best option available to me is to explain that I have a mini Dave Benson Phillips that lives under my bed and wakes me up in time for my days events. Four day eventing sometimes. The problem is that his face fell against the radiator once and its all melted off and all wibbly wobbly Charlie Dimmock. Where in the nursery rhyme does it say humpty dumpty is an egg? I say, I say Ashley! Its me here, your Dad, Fred, Fred the man, the bonnet, the swinging chimney stack. Its not perfectly clear as to exactly what creature or being Humpty Dumpty is. But in all the illustrations I've been privy to, he has indeed been an egg. Sometimes modelled on Greg Wallace of Masterchef. It is believed that Humpty Dumpty had 2 faces, one for himself and one for the Vicar. I'd have much rather envisioned Old Humpty of the Dumpty to be a character from Shooting Stars "Tiny Eyes" sketches. Please YouTube if unfamiliar. Where does all the white go when the snow melts? This is a truly enlightening question, In my vast back (box) catalogue of rare questions answered, this is a Woody x blinder. I had to seek help from Paul at Boots in Wolverhampton, and from Stephen Gately courtesy of God aka Morgan Freeman and found out that in fact John Snow and Jimmy White share all the White from the snow! I was astounded when I went to their shared house in Surrey and found they had a vast snow white remover, not to be confused with the Snow White rack machine used on the Disney Character. Their machine for white extraction has a large (Pippa) funnel with an incendiary device which deals with the yellow snow and brown snow - creamy muck muck. It deals on the basis of circumfannackeration and electrolysis bio mechanical filtration sub-station style, with a hint of gas conversion and lpg. It also has a special perchant for the whitest of white John Snow, and he likes to use the snow for hair product. Then Jimmy says : move up to the next place, smooth snow club, flex, bass. 14 Q1 It is an illegal delivery and should be called a no ball. As the batsmen are not attempting a run, a run out is not possible. The bowler also needs to be warned. Q2 This is a clear case of obstruction so can therefore be given out accordingly. A bat can only be used to hit the ball. You can use it to knock the ball away from your wickets if needed.
