Season Preview V O L U M E 1, I S S U E 7 First Team P A G E 2 Last year was certainly a roller coaster of a season. The way we finished shows that we can be a top side and a match for anyone at this level. What we need this year is consistency. If we achieve this, we could go far. The batting line up last season was naïve on occasion, particularly in response to the challenge of targets being set. Hopefully, this is something that can be addressed by an improvement in the application and maturity of the top order. Tidy As a Sunday only player I thought we had a decent season last term and J.B did a great job in leading us to comfortably avoiding relegation. If everyone is fit and available I have some top cricketers at my disposal. We had the 2 best bowlers in the league last year with my brother being the overall leading wicket taker in the league and Steve Whittall who had the best bowling average in the league. We also had J.B who for the majority of the time was bowling too well to take wickets. We have talented batsmen at the club who are all now experienced cricketers who are capable of scoring quickly and making big scores. One of my main priorities this season is give some experience of 1 st XI cricket to our prospects such as Stocko, Jake Shearwood and Matt James who all had great seasons last year and would benefit from playing alongside the like of J.B, Jonty and Craig. Hopefully everyone who is involved will have an enjoyable Sunday season. Dave Second Team There were some very encouraging signs in terms of the performances where some of the younger lads came of age. If we continue in the same manner, I believe that the 2nd XI has a real good chance of being competitive if we play hard and to our potential. Obviously we are going to miss Jitu s runs, energy and spirit, but I think we have enough quality to cope. It is also a chance for someone to step up and make a name for themselves. It s always great to have experienced heads like Baz, Valer and H around for advice and to guide the youngsters. They can learn a lot from them. Here s to a positive season with some nice weather (hopefully!) Dunc The aim for the season is to achieve a respectable position in the table and to make sure everyone has fun doing what they do. The thing I m looking forward to has to be shopping in Asda in the early hours of a Sunday morning with Gerald. The worst though has got to be preparing all the tea, bore me off proper. Mo Third Team I am very proud to have been selected as the new 3rd Team captain. It is an honour and a privilege to be honest. My aims for the season are very simple, to play some great cricket. I think we have some really talented young cricketers who will go on to be main stays in the 1st team very soon. Players such as Dan Greatrex and Adam Mark had tremendous years last year, so I ll be looking to them to push on from there. When you then add all the experienced players like Tony Forrester and Marcus Jones, who will help me invaluably, I am really optimistic for the upcoming campaign. Up the Bronze! Stocko 2

VOLUME 1, ISSUE 7 PAGE 4 Sponsor Us! The Club are actively seeking a sponsor or several sponsors for the forthcoming season. Do you know of a company who would be willing to make a donation to the club or sponsor a side or sides? The club currently have 5 adult sides and 4 junior ones and we have a reputation for producing home grown talent as the majority of adult players are graduates of the youth system. The club is very family orientated and a great place for players to develop as well as to watch the real beautiful game. Anyone interested would in return have the option of either having the company name in the newsletter, on the front of playing shirts, on the website or all of the above. Currently, the newsletter is sent to over 120 members and the website has had 71,000 hits since its creation in Our Twitter profile has over 750 followers, while our Facebook group has 60 members. Hopefully you can see the potential this opportunity has and the amount of people that would see your advert. Any interested parties are invited to make themselves known to The Committee either in person or send an to the club. Many thanks in advance. There are various sponsorship packages available which offer different levels of investment to any interested party. Main Club Sponsor Kit Sponsor As main club sponsor your logo and details would become synonymous with Bronze Cricket Club, taking pride of place in everything we do. From matches to events, newsletters to websites and social media your brand will be heavily featured in everything Bronze related. Kit is an important necessity for all cricket teams. Gone are the days of turning up in white flannels and having a bit of a bowl and a bat. Nowadays cricket sides have a full clothing range from playing shirts, trousers and jumpers to training wear and leisure wear enabling everyone to show off their cricketing allegiance. Bronze currently has space for sponsors on all of our clothing range. There is an opportunity for 250 Bronze members to wear clothing branded with your logo. Match Ball Sponsor As match ball sponsor you would be doing us the kind honour of providing all of match balls for the season. It is Warwickshire league rules to provide 2 new balls per game, one for each innings. To enforce this rule all match balls must be purchased directly from the Warwickshire league Junior Section Sponsor As Junior Section sponsor you would be greatly helping the development of future generations of young cricketers. The Bronze Junior Section take great pride in giving young boys and girls the opportunity to play cricket and to help them develop their skills. A sponsor of the junior section would greatly benefit us by helping provide equipment to make sure we give the youngsters the best experience possible. Player Sponsor - 25 Sponsor one of our players from the 3 Adult sides and you will be acknowledged on the sponsor section of the website, with your logo present and a hyperlink to your own website (if applicable). You will also receive regular mentions on Twitter. Contact Us We would be happy to discuss any of the options with you. We understand that needs vary from person to person so we are flexible on our offerings. To speak to us further or to make an appointment to speak further please contact us via any of the usual ways. * All prices are for a year (1st April 30th March) 4

P A G E 8 Cricket Force Days A lot of work has been happening during the last few weeks at The Anson. The Club would like to thank all those who have contributed and worked so hard. Without these people, the club would not survive. As ever, the turn out could have been better, but there are plenty of jobs throughout the season if you want to help. Ask any of The Committee for details or if you have any ideas of your own. All suggestions are gratefully received. 8

P A G E 9 Player Profile This month we talk to a man who has become a real housewife s favourite, Paul Vale. Nickname? Valer. Refereed to as venomous a very long time ago, team mates do love a bit of sarcasm! Current bat? A sturdy pair of Slazenger pads! The piece of timber I take to lean on, Boundary Sports Test Opener, no idea of the weight but it ain t light! Bazza seems to have taken a liking to it. First bat? Gunn & Moore autograph Best performance? Any one which I take a wicket. Did once manage against Oak n Ash, don t think they ve been heard of since. Nothing much to mention with the bat, I do recall a 37* but I'll take anything in double figures. Favourite ground? Got to say the Anson Ground although it was a late discovery. Born and breed in West Brom and never knew it existed up until a few years ago Hopes for the season? Never had a hat trick in a competitive game so I'm always hoping. Apart from that, some dry weather, remain in one piece throughout the season and see a solid Bronze performance all round! Cricket hero and why? Cliché but going to say Botham. Play hard, party harder! Favourite cricket memory? Seeing H spring into life to take a sharp catch at first slip when I'm bowling or was that a dream? Funniest man at Bronze? There is a few that come to mind, Turbo has to get a mention, always able to raise a chuckle when he's around. Jitu for his inane ramblings, but for consistency and week in week out performance, I ve got to say Woody. The lad never seems to be short of something to say! Other sports or hobbies? Basically lazy during non cricket season, with a bit of walking, Xbox, drinking, snooker and making use of my sky sports subscription (occasionally making it up to the Hawthorns). What would be your T20 entrance song? The Smiths What difference does it make? (A No. 11s Anthem!) I used to be known as Venomous in my younger days Ask the Umpire Q1: You give a batsman out but as he s walking off, your colleague at square leg tells you it was the 7th ball in the over. What should you do? Q2: The keeper is standing up to the stumps. The batsmen goes down the track but edges the ball. It hits the keeper s cap then deflects onto the stumps. Do you give him out stumped? Answers on p.14 9

P A G E 10 Ask Woody This month, we have looked back at some of the best thoughts of the irrepressible Craig Wood who has an answer for all of life s quandaries and conundrums. If you have a question for Ask Woody, please feel free to the club at the usual address. In joinery my favourite tool is the biscuit joiner which, for those who don't know, is a woodworking tool used to join two pieces of wood together. A biscuit joiner uses a small 100mm (4") diameter tungsten carbide tipped circular saw blade to cut a crescent shaped hole in the opposite edges of two pieces of wood or wood composite panels. An ovalshaped, highly-dried and compressed wooden biscuit is covered with glue, or glue is applied in the slot. The biscuit is immediately placed in the slot, and the two boards are clamped together. The wet glue expands the biscuit, further improving a bond that is often stronger than the wood itself. It really is remarkable. What I want to know is, what is your favourite tool and how does it work? Firstly I must say what a great question that is. To answer it I must go back to basics. Although there are GOLD many great wonders of modern technology in the joinery and woodwork trade. There is not a single aspect of woodwork/joinery that can be carried out without my favourite joinery tool. It is of course the humble pencil. A pencil is a writing implement or art medium usually constructed of a narrow, solid pigment core inside a protective casing. The case prevents the core from breaking, and also from marking the user s hand during use. Pencils create marks via physical abrasion, leaving behind a trail of solid core material that adheres to a sheet of paper or other surface. They are noticeably distinct from pens, which dispense liquid or gel ink that stain the light colour of the paper. Most pencil cores are made of graphite mixed with a clay binder, leaving grey or black marks that can be easily erased. Graphite pencils are used for both writing and drawing, and the result is durable: although writing can usually be removed with an eraser, it is resistant to moisture, most chemicals, UV radiation and natural ageing. What should I have for tea? This was once shown to me by a close friend of mine, Marco Pierre White. He insists that any evening can be made somewhat more delightful with a freshly prepared, pan seared tuna steak. Served with thickly cut rustic potato wedges, a dollop of salsa verde and a sprig of parsley and light balsamic vinaigrette. If you think this is indeed a little advanced or too short notice, an easier alternative is fish and chips from The Rainbow Fish Bar in Darlo. Tell them I sent you. 10
