1 November 8, 2007 CANADA S SCHMIDT FINISHES 6 TH TO BOWL WITH FINAL EIGHT AT BOWLING WORLD CUP Canada s Michael Schmidt of Winnipeg, Manitoba finished sixth to bowl with the top eight at the 43rd Annual Quibica/AMF Bowling World Cup. Schmidt bowled 1772 for his final eight games. 88 countries are participating at the 32 lane centre in the Kontinental Shopping Centre in historic St. Petersburg, Russia. Jason Belmonte of Australia finished first in the men s division, 252 pins ahead of the field. Ghislaine van der Tol, Netherlands led the women. Complete results are available at The field is now cut to the top 8 men and women who will bowl a round robin of eight matches on Friday. The final three men and three women will be determined from the match play for the step-ladder final on Saturday. The televised step-ladder final will be the best two of three games. Player #2 will meet player #3 and winner will meet the #1 player for the title. Schmidt, the 2005 men s champion, is representing Canada for the third time. He finished 3 rd at the 2006 event. When asked how did it compare with the others? He said A lot tougher - the pattern is flatter and you must execute each shot. What are your thoughts going into tomorrow? I have some ground to make up to finish in the top three but I don t mind being the snake in the grass said Schmidt. Sandra Lowe of Lindsay, Ontario is coaching the Canadian representatives. Lowe is one of the head coaches for the Canadian Tenpin Federation and coached Schmidt and Ryan-Ciach to their wins in 2005 and The Canadian Tenpin Federation was formed in 1969 to qualify representatives for international competition.. 3 November 7, 2007 CANADA S SCHMIDT QUALIFIES 7TH AT BOWLING WORLD CUP Canada s Michael Schmidt of Winnipeg, Manitoba qualified seventh at the 43 Annual Quibica/AMF Bowling World Cup. Schmidt bowled 1389 for his final six games of qualifying. Monique Belanger, Estevan, Saskatchewan bowled her best series and finished 41 st. 88 countries are participating at the 32 lane centre in the Kontinental Shopping Centre in historic St. Petersburg, Russia. Jason Belmonte of Australia retained his position as high qualifier for the men. Ghislaine van der Tol, Netherlands led the women. Schmidt bowled 1288 to move four places into the 24 th position.
