1 AMERICAN CRICKET FEDERATION ACF CRICKETER ACF News Dear ACF Members For most of us, the 2016 cricket season is upon us, yet US cricket is still in limbo with no active NGB. The only season-long national format for US Cricket in 2016 (as was the case in 2015) is ACF's Newbery American Cricket Champions League (NACCL). We hope you and your league are availing yourself of this opportunity to compete against leagues from near and far, culminating in the annual finals tournament in October in Orlando. We also will be supporting the inaugural Philadelphia Youth Cricket Festival being organized by the British Officers Cricket Club this spring, where you can see Jagan Jagannathan, Chairman future US cricket superstars in action. In the past quarter, we participated in the very successful weekend event organized by the Lawrence Rowe Legendary Foundation which aims to help past West Indian cricketers in need as well as local youth here in the US, specifically in Florida. Several ACF members and their families were in attendance as well as the 2015 NACCL Champions, Massachusetts Patriots, who played in a T20 match at the event. As an organization, we continue to grow, bringing leagues, clubs and members into our fold so that we continue to have a strong and unified voice in US cricket. We continue to work closely with the various ICC Americas initiatives as partners. We continue to make the case that US cricket is first and foremost about today's and tomorrow's US cricketer, his/her development and his/her opportunities for growth and achievement. We encourage you to invite your cricketing peers to join ACF not only to avail themselves of the Newbery ACCL and similar on-the-field activities, but to create "strength in numbers." Being a member won't lighten their wallets any at less than just three cents per day for an individual member, less than just 15 cents/day for a club, less than 45 cents/day for a softball league and less than 75 cents/day for a hardball league. All they need to do is go to http: to join. Please do your part by relaying the word to others. 2 ACF BOARD MATTERS - GOVERNANCE/INDEPENDENT DIRECTORS ACF Board matters for the Quarter included approval of proposals to amend the Federation's Constitution to become fully compliant with USOC guidelines. While maintaining characteristic checks and balances such as term limits and a non-voting Chairman, particular proposals included an increase in the number of Independent Directors from one to four, and the creation of a Nominations Committee of unimpeachable integrity to appoint such Independent Directors. In conjunction with the revisions to be effected. The Board will also review standing committee functions. ACF IMPACTS LAWRENCE ROWE LEGENDS CRICKET WEEKEND The American Cricket Federation (ACF) made a contribution on and off the field to the 2nd Annual Lawrence Rowe Legendary Foundation s Cricket Legends Weekend in Ft. Lauderdale in March with its 2015 Newbery American Cricket Champions League winners Massachusetts Patriots led by skipper Jaideep Reddy participating on the field in one of the two celebrity cricket matches, the ACF as a sponsoring partner made a contribution to the three noble causes of the foundation created in 2011, by legendry Jamaica and West Indies Test cricketer Lawrence Rowe and his wife Audrey. The foundation focuses on three initiatives - "Mission of the Heart" that extends a helping hand to West Indies cricket legends across the Caribbean, "Jamaica I.C.E." Independence Children Extravagance, where children of all ages get to showcase their cultural talents, and "Look good, do good," a mentorship and make-over initiative geared toward children in need of tutoring to get back on track with their school work. In addition, the foundation looks to keep the love of cricket alive. This year s cricket beneficiary was former Barbados and West Indies Test cricketer Seymour Nurse. With almost twenty former West Indies Test cricketers in attendance including Rohan Kanhai, Alvin Kallicharran, Lance Gibbs, Larry Gomes, Desmond Haynes, Ridley Jacobs, Andy Roberts, Brian Lara, Courtney Walsh, Collis King, Augustine Logie, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Faoud Bacchus, Dwayne Smith, Jermaine Lawson, Larry Gomes and Joel Garner, the weekend s activities kicked off with a Meet & Greet on Friday, March 4, followed by a Gala Dinner on Saturday, and two celebrity cricket matches on Sunday at the Central Broward Regional Park; the only ICC approved ODI facility in the USA. ACF Board directors Dr. Mahesh Allam, Avinash Varma, Mike Thomas and John Aaron, along with some 25 ACF guests and Massachusetts Patriots players, attended the Gala Legends Dinner at the Marriott Hotel. Legendary Trinidad & Tobago batsman and West Indies Captain Brian Charles Lara was the featured speaker at the gala. Lara reviewed the current state of West Indies cricket and opined that the future success of West Indies cricket rests on the shoulders of its younger cricketers. The world batting record holder called for a shift in responsibility and ownership of West Indies cricket, while referencing the recent sentiments of the Caribbean s political leaders regarding a radical change in the governance of West Indies cricket. Lara suggested the West Indies team be owned by its fans, in a model similar to the format adopted by the FC Barcelona Football team of Spain, where some 180,000 socio fans own the world famous soccer team through individual memberships. ACF Board member Dr. Allam in an address to those present at the dinner, called for unity in USA cricket, using the acronym CALM to spell out a way forward for the governance and growth of the sport in this country. Dr. Allam, a pulmonary specialist sought to breathe new life into the way the sport is seen and executed in America. The Florida-based medical practitioner said CALM represented a Sesame Street reference, but used the acronym to spell out the path forward for USA cricket, and under the banner of unity. He offered C for Cooperation among all stakeholders: A for Appreciation of the cultural diversity inherent in US cricket: L for Love of the game of cricket, and M for Mutual respect and dignity for every individual involved. Dr. Allam in calling for a calm approach to solving the ills of American cricket, concluded with the wish that those four simple principles may be the answer to our daily lives and the future of the sport of cricket in the USA. 3 ACF DIRECTOR Vijay Panneerselvam - Zonal Director for the Central Zone The Central Zone includes Vijay s home State of Florida. Vijay migrated to the United States in 2000 and received his Master s degree from RIT, New York. After graduating from RIT, Vijay worked in New York for six years. Then he moved to Philadelphia to work for Merrill Lynch as a Systems Analyst Consultant. In 2007, Vijay relocated to Jacksonville, Florida and joined Merrill Lynch as a full-time employee. Shortly thereafter he enrolled the University of Florida as a part-time MBA student. In Florida, Vijay found his American love Leslie, and at the same time revived his Indian love Cricket. Vijay Panneerselvam Fast forward to 2016 Vijay just celebrated his ninth year anniversary with Merrill Lynch, his fourth year as director of NFCL which he co-founded in 2012, and his fifth year wedding anniversary with Leslie. Vijay and Leslie have a daughter, Liviya, who is three years old. Vijay is a sports fanatic. Even though he follows and plays several sports, cricket has a special place in his heart. Like many expats, Vijay has played cricket since he was young, ranging from backyard cricket to college cricket. After he moved to Jacksonville, Florida, he re-discovered his first love. Despite the great weather, leather ball cricket almost didn't exist in Jacksonville. So Vijay and his friends (Shiva and Vijay) founded North Florida Cricket League in The league organizes two local tournaments per year. Having successfully initiated the development of the sport in a small city, Vijay now wants to contribute his effort and energy into promoting the game all over the country! The second-highest TV ratings for the 2015 Cricket World Cup was out of the USA. So there is no doubt, there is a huge potential for Cricket in America. Vijay has aligned himself with ACF, and believes, to help grow cricket, a strong unified governing body is vital to the growth of the sport in America, and ACF has taken several constructive steps to protect and promote cricketing interests in the United States. Vijay hopes to continue being an integral part of cricket development in America. ACF Pitches in for PYCF The Philadelphia Youth Cricket Festival (PYCF) sponsored in part by the American Cricket Federation (ACF) is scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend May 28-30, This year s festival will see eight Under-13 and four Under-15 teams square off in T20 matches on three grounds. The PYCF event is hosted by Haverford College, home of the famed C.C. Morris Cricket Library, and the British Officers Cricket Club of Philadelphia. The round-robin tournament will focus on family, fun and fundamentals of the sport of cricket. ACF is proud to be associated with this emerging youth cricket festival on the annual US cricket calendar. American Cricket Federation 1st Quarter

4 South West Region OCCA/SCYCA HEAD COACH SELECTED AS A COACH FOR ICC COMBINES Michael Voss, Head Coach of both Southern California Youth Cricket Academy (SCYCA) and Orange County Cricket Association (OCCA), was selected as one of the ICC Americas coaches to participate in the ICC Combine in Los Angeles, CA from April 7-10, From all reports, the Combine was deemed a huge success by players and coaches alike.. Orange County Cricket Association is a member league of the American Cricket Federation. NATA PRIME CUP IS A HUGE SUCCESS Heavy rain one Friday afternoon in March brought anxiety to the North American Telugu Association (NATA) Prime Cup organizers, and some uncertainty about the ground condition for the weekend s tournament. The rain subsided by evening, and the weather was favorable for two days of exciting youth cricket. Two turf wickets were prepared at the beautiful Foothill Ranch Community Park, and by 8.00 AM all teams were on the field ready for action. All preliminary round matches were concluded on Saturday, with each team playing two games in each group, A & B. March 13 Match Reports Semifinals 9.00 AM NOON Field # 1 CZA Spartans v. Cricket for Cubs Spartans won the toss and elected to bowl. The Cubs top order batted sensibly, but a middle-order collapse meant they could not capitalize on the strong start, resulting in only 89 runs after 20 overs. Cricket for Cubs recovered with solid bowling and fielding. The CZA Spartans lost wickets at regular intervals, posting 29 runs for 7 wickets at the seventh over. Two good partnerships got them close to the target, but with the fall of the last wicket at 87 runs, CZA lost its hopes for the finals. Field # 2 CCA Centurions v. CC Falcons Fans expected a great game from two equally balanced teams. The CCA Falcons won the toss and elected to bat. Bowling was tight, limiting runs. The Centurion batsmen stuck with the basics, playing the balls on merit and punishing the odd lose ball. Falcons held danger man Vod Patel to 8 runs, giving them some hope of winning. However, the Centurions managed to post 104 at the end of the inning. The Falcons top order batted well against an accurate bowling attack, but the middle-order could not hold to finish the match on a winning note. Finals 1.00 PM 4.00 PM. Field # 1 CCA Centurions v. Cricket for Clubs CCA Centurions won the toss and elected to bat on a good batting wicket. The top order fired from the start, setting up a commanding score of 187 runs in 20 overs Cricket for Cubs tried hard but could not keep up with the required run rate, surrendering for 85 runs in 17.3 overs. The NATA Prime Cup offered a lively cricket festival where players, parents, and supporters enjoyed two days of good cricket. The presentation ceremony was held at 4:30 PM, ending a great event organized by the North America Telugu Association in collaboration with the Sothern California Youth Cricket Academy. The NATA Prime Cup will be an annual event, with organizers planning to scale up based on the 2015 tournament success. Visit Match Center for scorecard and statistics.
