An award can be worth up to 50% of the fees (boarding or day) and is made on the basis of an assessment of cricket ability. Where appropriate other skills can also be taken into account and a variety of other scholarships and all-rounder awards are available. As with all candidates for places at the College, we need to be confi dent when offering places that prospective pupils can thrive academically, so an academic and behavioural reference is an important part of any assessment.

4 4 Ellesmere College Cricket Academy U15 Midlands Champions Boys Cricket Nottinghamshire County Cricket Links Ellesmere Win Midlands Final Ellesmere College Under 15 Cricket team had an incredible summer, making it through to the last 4 of English Schools Cricket Association Cup after sealing a convincing win in the Midlands fi nal. County Links The College has established links with Shropshire, Cheshire, Staffordshire, North Wales and Wales who, in turn, are partnered with fi rst class counties. The school has players involved in fi rst-class County academies such as Glamorgan. Wales & Cheshire Players of the Year Harry Newton from Cheshire fi nished off his Lower School cricket career by being the highest wicket taker in the whole of the country for his age group. He played seven games against very high profi le counties including Lancashire, Yorkshire, Durham and Nottinghamshire in the U14 London County Cup. Connor Davies also fi nished off his Lower School career by being awarded the title of Wales Young Player of the Year. He has proved himself as an excellent all-rounder, taking the most wickets as well as scoring the most runs throughout the Welsh U13 Season. Ellesmere Youngster Impressing As They Join Pathway To The Top Ellesmere College pupils George Newton, Harry Newton and Connor Davies have earned national recognition following a series of impressive performances on the county cricket scene. The quartet have caught the eye of England Cricket Board selectors, to win an invitation to attend the ECB National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough University.

5 Ellesmere College Cricket Academy 5 Winners of the Lady Taverners Regional Finals - Midlands & Wales Ellesmere Aiming For Glory At Lord s: The Home of Cricket Ellesmere targeted national success in the Lady Taverners Under-15 Cricket Competition. The girls booked their place at the fi nals which was staged at the home of English cricket, Lords Cricket Ground. Six teams from across the Midlands took part in the regional event at Nottingham s Trent Bridge but it was Ellesmere who came out on top following some accomplished performances with bat and ball. In the league format Ellesmere College won all of their fi ve games, to fi nish on 15 points, winning the title by a clear six points. The girls took their form from winning the county competition into the regional fi nals, where they maintained their undefeated run. Ellesmere managed to beat Bishops of Hereford Bluecoat (Herefordshire), Christopher Whitehead (Worcestershire), Minster (Nottinghamshire), Tudor Grange (Warwickshire) and Wolverhampton Girls High School (Staffordshire) to win the competition and clinch the Midlands title. Rod Jones, Cricket Academy Head Coach, said This was a huge achievement for the team, all of the girls played really well and it was a good team effort

6 6 Ellesmere College Cricket Academy Harry Stow with Michael Clarke (Ex Captain of Australia Cricket) Vansh Bajaj from New Delhi, India Cricket Academy goes International Ellesmere has been privileged to welcome cricket coaches and players from all over the world who have enhanced the already thriving Cricket Academy with new ideas and a wide range of experience. Gareth Owen, 1st XI Coach explained, it is great to bring different cultural cricket experiences from all over the world for the benefi t of the Cricket Academy. It is particularly pleasing to hear that the Ellesmere College was noted in the Kashmir Times in relation to our student exchange programme. As a result of our coaching programme the players from India and all over the world have adapted well to English conditions and have been successful in representing the School. Destination Dubai Harry Stow set the Academy scene when he attended a winter training camp at the ICC Global Cricket Academy in Dubai Sports City with past 1st XI captain Sam Owen. It s location places it in the centre of the cricket-playing world. It offers the opportunity to players, coaches, umpires, curators, and administrators from across the ICC s one hundred and four Member Countries to benefi t from programs and courses. Harry attended the academy as part of the United Emirates (UAE) under 19 Squad and recent OE Sam Owen took the opportunity to obtain some winter practice and coach junior teams at the Cricket Centre. Harry returned to the ICC Global Cricket Academy after completing the summer season at Ellesmere College. As a result of his talents being recognised he was invited to bowl against the Australian National side in a net practice session including the following players: Michael Clarke (captain) Steve Smith, David Warner, Aeron Finch, Mitchell Johnson, Glenn Maxwell. During the session he claimed the wicket of Steve Smith bowled him!

7 Ellesmere College Cricket Academy 7 Academic support and pastoral care Harry Stow former fi rst team captain and prefect Ellesmere College Forward in its Thinking Ellesmere College is a coeducational school for pupils aged 7-18, set in 144 acres of glorious rural North Shropshire, just half a mile from the historic canal-side town of Ellesmere. Whilst rural in its location, it is a relatively short distance from a number of main-line railway stations and international airports. The College continues to thrive and grow today due, in no small way, to our focus on the needs and development of each individual student. The College prides itself on its policy of accepting pupils across a wide range of the academic ability spectrum, but the focus on individual support and development means that all pupils can achieve their very best. It is this commitment to the individual that enables the College to welcome pupils with a wide variety of talents and ambitions. The College recognises that there are many drivers for success besides sheer hard work: confi dence, motivation, determination and ambition play equally important parts. The College seeks to develop these characteristics, alongside the academy training programme, through our educational provisions. Indoor nets at Nottinghamshire Cricket Club The College regularly enjoys outstanding inspection reports from bodies such as the Independent Schools Inspectorate and OFSTED Child Protection, the most recent of which can be found on the College website. Academic results are excellent. Ellesmere offers the International Baccalaureate Programme alongside A-levels in the Sixth Form, and the average score for the International Baccalaureate is usually in a range equivalent to A, A, A at A level. In overall terms the College s Sixth Form leavers usually average the equivalent in A-level grades of A, B, B. Recently one of our International Baccalaureate Diploma candidates achieved 45 points (the top mark), formally equivalent to 6 ½ A grades at A-level, and was one of only 100 candidates in the world to achieve that level. Given that the College continues to require only 5 GCSEs at grade C to enter the Sixth Form the results are quite exceptional. A wide range of subjects are on offer at GCSE level including GCSE PE and, introduced recently, BTEC Sports Level 3 (A-level equivalent). The Environment Ellesmere is aware that Cricket is not the only factor when considering joining the College. The academic time table is carefully constructed to allow those pupils with sporting interest to be able to balance studies with training and playing commitments. There is careful monitoring of academic progress to ensure the player is coping with the demand of both academia and sports. Boarding at Ellesmere The Boarding Houses at Ellesmere College are tailored to meet the needs of children from the age of 8 upwards. All of the Housemasters and Housemistresses are provided with information on the specifi c needs and coaching timetable of all pupils in their care.
