1 Assupol TuksCricket Acceleration Programme

2 The Assupol TuksCricket Acceleration Programme gives a cricket player the opportunity to take their cricket to the next level with the help of an intensive termly cricket programme. This programme has been designed to suit the individual by giving a player the ability to design their own package by choosing their own session structure to suit their needs whether it will be a programme for a full year, in between their studies or around a season of cricket overseas. Players can choose between cricket specific sessions, sports science sessions and other support service sessions. The programme has been divided into four terms and each term will have a minimum amount of sessions that a player must attend to make the programme effective. Players can decide on how many terms they would like to attend per year. Cricket specific sessions include batting, bowling and fielding sessions with specific warm up and activation for players. The sport science sessions include strength & conditioning services, video analysis, functional movement screenings and scientific testing. The other support service sessions include nutrition and psychology. All sessions will be presented at the world-class facilities that Assupol TuksCricket has to offer including the CSA Centre of Excellence. Players enrolled in the Assupol TuksCricket Acceleration Programme do not need to be member of the Club and can play cricket at a club of their choice. This programme will also offer all who have been involved, or who will be involved later on in the year pre-season matches in July. All players that join the Acceleration Programme will receive training kit from the Assupol TuksCricket sponsor, Puma. 3 The Assupol TuksCricket Acceleration Programme is a termly programme that can be customized by the individual player for his or her needs. The terms for 2017 will be structured as follows: Term 1: 11 January 31 March Week Programme - R300 per 90 minute session - Minimum of 40 sessions - Includes two free training sessions with the Assupol TuksCricket Club Emerging Squad per week Term 2: 18 April 30 June Week Programme - R300 per 90 minute session - Minimum of 37 sessions Term 3: 24 July 29 September Week Programme - R300 per 90 minute session - Minimum of 34 sessions Term 4: 9 October 6 December Week Programme - R300 per 90 minute session - Minimum of 30 sessions - Includes two free training sessions with the Assupol TuksCricket Club Emerging Squad per week Page 3 of 9

6 Sport Science Services Conditioning Programme Cricketers have dreams and goals which drive them to work hard apart from the challenges they face. Every cricketer has a dream not only to play for their country but also to stay there for a long period of time and to keep and maintain good performances in their career. During the journey to gain cricketing excellence sportsmen face many challenges such as: Cut throat Competition Physiological Pressure Psychological Pressure Pressure of Performance Fear of Injury To meet these challenges one should focus to work on different parameters of fitness which are specifically important to play the game better, such as: Cardiovascular Endurance Muscular Endurance Muscular strength Muscular Power Agility Flexibility Body Composition Speed Speed Endurance Proprioception Cricket conditioning has become an inevitable part of a Cricketer s life due to the emergence of new formats like T20; the game, and the demands to play the game is changing drastically. Apart from the improved performance, cricket conditioning plays an important role in chronic and acute injury prevention particularly because it is an asymmetrical sport (i.e. batting, bowling and throwing are performed with a dominant hand or stance). Cricket players have become more susceptible to injuries like back injuries, knee injuries, ankle injuries, hamstring strains and tears as well as shoulder injuries, which have a direct effect on the player s performance. Therefore, a player s physical condition is a very important aspect to a good and successful career. Page 6 of 9

7 Sport Science Testing Twice a term specific scienfitic tests can be arranged to determine if players have achieved what is necessary in specific components needed to improve their cricket. When participating in any physical tests, players must compete to their best ability. One can then use these results with validity and reliability over the term to determine where they are in certain components and what a player needs to work on to improve their speciality. Functional Movement Screen (FMS) The Functional Movement Screen is a set of seven tests used to assess fundamental movement patterns. The aim is to ensure the athlete has a solid movement foundation on which to build strength, speed, power and skills. Each test is given a score out of 3, for a maximum total of 21. A total score of 14 or less has been associated with increased risk of injury in numerous sports, and athletes who score more than 14 have been found to have greater improvements in competitive performance from one season to the next. Research has also shown that these basic movements can be improved with appropriate individualised exercise intervention. Players can choose to do this screening and the results of these tests will be supplied to the coach in order for problem areas to be addressed effectively. Technique Analysis Video analysis of sports technique enables one to identify technical faults that may hinder performance or increase the risk of injury. Video technology is a useful reference for coaches and a reliable feedback tool for athletes to enhance their learning of skills. Players can have either their batting and/or bowling technique assessed using video analysis. A report will be given to the coach, outlining areas that can be improved upon to enhance performance or reduce the risk of injury. Page 7 of 9

8 Support Services Psychology Services If players feel it nessecary, they can book psychology sessions with sport psychologists at the HPC. These sessions present players with the opportunity of career testing/guidance as well as assisting with personal and performance development of each player. These sessions develop players into well-rounded cricketers understanding the importance of how their minds affect their sport. Nutrition Services The Assupol TuksCricket Acceleration Programme allows players to book a session with a nutritionist at the HPC regarding healthy eating routines and looking after their bodies. These sessions assist players to understand the importance of healthy bodies for sport, eating to compete, supplementation and learning about the athlete on the go. Page 8 of 9
