1 Rules and regulations (Note: These rules are in addition to the rules established by the school and athletic department. Policies described in the student handbook will be observed as well.) 1. Presence at site All bowlers will be expected to remain in the bowling site during the event. Bowlers should not leave the building until the event has completed. 2. Behavior It is important for participants to remember that they are representing their school in a public forum. Each student-athlete s behavior affects the reputation of the team and the school. Since most events occur away from school property, participants should be reminded that school rules are still in effect since it is a school function. Please refrain from vulgarity and inappropriate discussions. While any sport can be frustrating at times, it is important to maintain composure and focus on the task at hand. In addition, it is requested that meals and snacks be eaten before or after matches, but not during the match. In no other sports event do the participants have access to eating. The coaching staff realizes that many students eat lunch as early as 10:00 am, so to help compensate, light snacks will be provided on long bus trips. Drinks will be permitted. 3. Required Activities In addition to bowling, each bowler will be required to learn to: a) keep score b) keep records of their own scores c) determine their own average 4. Participation In order to participate in matches, bowlers must maintain at least 60% of the mandatory practice games bowled. Participants will then be determined by average. The top five bowlers will start the varsity match, while the second five will start the junior varsity match, and two alternates will be eligible to participate in the match if varsity or JV player is unable to attend. Alternates are expected to bring their equipment even though they may not actually bowl. Alternates will be expected to keep score of the match. 5. Lettering To determine lettering in bowling, the following point system will be used this year: Practice Game 1 point/game Alternate Game 1 point/game Junior Varsity Game Start 2 points/game Varsity Game Start 4 points/game A total of 130 points must be accumulated to guarantee letter status. A minimum of 8 boys and 8 girls will receive a letter. In the event that 8 bowlers of each gender do not reach the necessary 130 points, the team members with the highest point totals will receive letters.

2 6. Captain According to league rules, each team must have a captain. The captain is responsible to keep in contact with the coaching staff during matches on matters concerning his or her team, the opposing team, and represent the team as league rules specify. Team captains are yet to be determined. 7. Regional & State Championship The format for the Western Regional and State championship will be extremely similar to last year s format with some minor adjustments that are yet to be finalized. A baker game format will continue to be part of the format. 8. Uniforms We may look at getting new uniforms for this year. If we get new uniforms, you will be expected to purchase one or fundraise to get one. If we will be using the same uniform shirts that have been used for the last several years and you already have a uniform and it still fits, you do not have to purchase a new one. The discussion will take place following this informational meeting. Dress slacks or khakis are required, and girls may wear appropriate skirts or skorts. (Guys, don t even ask!) 9. Fundraisers A series of fundraisers will take place to help defray the costs of being a member of the team. If a team member quits the team or becomes ineligible, the money remains with the team funds. All rules are subject to change if necessary. 3 CHARTER AND BY-LAWS OFFICIAL NAME OF SCHOOL CLUB: Woodland Hills Bowling Team of the WOODLAND HILLS HIGH SCHOOL. (Club name must reflect the purpose of the club). Statement of Club s Purpose and Goals: To develop and improve bowling ability and knowledge. To develop a positive competitive atmosphere and sportsmanship. To prepare the team for interscholastic competition. To fundraise monies for use directed by the membership (includes, but not limited to, lineage expenses, travel expenses for state tournament (if necessary), uniforms, equipment, and banquet tickets). Membership Requirements: All interested students in good academic standing enrolled at Woodland Hills High School are eligible for membership, as well as those attending other academic entities who qualify for participation in Woodland Hills Sports. Team membership will not be limited on the basis of race, gender, ethnicity, national origin religion or disability. Attendance or participation in team meetings and activities is limited to team members. Non-school persons may attend on occasion to make presentations to the club with the prior approval of the school administrator. Article I Student Representatives 1. There will be two student representatives appointed during the school year, designated as the boys team captain and the girls team captain. Article II Meetings 1. Meetings of the team shall be held as necessary at a time and place suited to the convenience of the membership. 2. A majority of the members in good standing shall constitute a quorum at any meeting. 3. Fundraising Request Forms must be submitted to the Principal and Superintendent for approval before the team begins any fundraising.

4 Article III Dues Dues will not be charged. However, financial responsibilities for incurred costs must be met in order to participate. Financial responsibilities can be met through fundraising opportunities. Article IV - Parliamentary Authority In all matters not specifically covered by these by-laws, the parliamentary authority shall be Robert s Rules of Order. Article V - Amendments These bylaws may be amended by majority vote of the members in good standing at any regular or special meeting of the club at which a quorum is present and is subject to approval by an administrator of Woodland Hills High School.

5 Financial issues Below is a listing and brief explanation of several financial responsibilities this year. Purchase of Uniform Shirts Team members will be expected to purchase uniform shirts. They will have the insignia and the team member s name on them. If you purchased a shirt last year, and it still fits, you may use it again this year. Expected Cost - $25. If the team decides to purchase new uniform shirts, this cost would most likely increase. Payment for Practice Due to the increasing number of students interested in bowling, the district is unable to pay for all of the cost of lineage. Team members will be asked to pay $25 to help defray the cost of the lineage of practices and matches. This may be paid in increments of $5 the first 5 times they practice, or raised through fundraising prior to bowling, but potential team members will not be permitted to practice without payment. Expected Cost - $25. Regional & State Championships The sites for the Regional & State Championships have not been set yet. More information will follow on this issue when it becomes relevant Expected Cost Lodging and Meal Expenses if travelling to another city. Banquet The league awards banquet will be held again this year, but a date has not been set. This event will have to be paid for in advance. Expected Cost - $30 If these fees create a financial burden, and fundraising efforts do not provide the necessary funds, then have your parent/guardian speak with Coach Cherry about making arrangements. Fundraising Pie Sale Pie Shoppe Pies Orders Due November 7 th ; Delivery November 20 th at practice One check per student written to Woodland Hills Activity Fund You must be able to deliver the pies yourself. Profit is $2.00 per sold pie.
