2 2015 Qualifying Competition Season - Synchronized Skating TECHNICAL ANNOUNCEMENT 1. GENERAL The 2015 U.S. Figure Skating qualifying competition season for synchronized skating consists of a total of four events, including three sectional championships and the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships. All four events are sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating and conducted according to the most current U.S. Figure Skating rulebook, edition, with changes and clarifications as posted on the U.S. Figure Skating website and this announcement. Compliance with these rules as updated or amended is the responsibility of the participants. U.S. Figure Skating reserves the right to incorporate revisions to the International Judging System (IJS) made by the ISU for junior and senior events and by U.S. Figure Skating to novice events and below. 3 2. TECHNICAL DETAILS A. CONDUCT OF EVENTS For the 2015 season, the following levels will be conducted in accordance with the International System of Judging (IJS): intermediate, novice, junior, senior, collegiate, and adult. The following levels will be conducted under the 6.0 judging system: juvenile & masters. The U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships are sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating and will be conducted under the rules set forth in the Official U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook and this announcement. Coaches are required to read the Rulebook and know all rules pertaining to their team. B. LEVELS THAT WILL ADVANCE TO THE U.S. SYNCHRONIZED SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS 1. Juvenile: A team of 12 to 20 skaters. Skaters must be under 13 on the preceding July 1 and have passed the Preliminary moves in the field test. Program duration: 3 minutes +/- 10 seconds Well balanced program: Rule Intermediate: A team of 12 to 20 skaters. Skaters must be under 18 on the preceding July 1 and have passed the Pre-Juvenile moves in the field test. Program duration: 3 ½ minutes +/- 10 seconds Well balanced program: Rule Novice: A team of 12 to 20 skaters. Skaters must be under 16, with the exception of a maximum of 4 skaters that may be 16 or 17, on the preceding July 1 and have passed the Juvenile moves in the field test. Program duration: 3 ½ minutes +/- 10 seconds Well balanced program: Rule Junior: A team of 12 to 16 skaters. Skaters must be at least 13 and under 19 on the preceding July 1. All skaters must have passed the Intermediate moves in the field test. Short program duration: Maximum 2 minutes, 50 seconds Free skate duration: 4 minutes +/- 10 seconds Well balanced program and short program: Rule Senior: A team of 16 skaters. Skaters must be at least 15 on the preceding July 1 and have passed the Novice moves in the field test. Short program duration: Maximum 2 minutes, 50 seconds Free skate duration: 4 ½ minutes +/- 10 seconds Well balanced program and short program: Rule Collegiate: A team of 12 to 20 skaters. Skaters must be enrolled in a college or university as a full-time student, as defined by the institution they attend, as of the entry deadline. All skaters must have passed the Juvenile moves in the field test. Program duration: 4 minutes +/- 10 seconds Well balanced program: Rule 7280

4 7. Adult: A team of 12 to 20 skaters. Skaters must be at least 21 on the preceding July 1, with the exception that up to four team members may be 18, 19, or 20 years of age. All skaters must have passed either the Preliminary moves in the field test, the Adult Bronze moves in the field test, the Preliminary figure test, or the Preliminary dance test. Program duration: 3 ½ minutes +/- 10 seconds Well balanced program: Rule Masters: A team of 12 to 20 skaters. Skaters must be at least 25, and the majority of the team must be at least 30 on the preceding July 1. Program duration: 3 minutes +/- 10 seconds Well balanced program: Rule 7510 C. ROSTER / CHANGES TO THE ROSTER: Rule 2821: The entry form of the first qualifying competition of the year becomes the official team roster for the remainder of the year. The roster must list all team members including alternates. No additions will be permitted from sectionals to the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships. Rule 2821 (B). Requests for substitutions to the roster must be submitted on the official form to the appropriate Sectional Vice Chair of the Synchronized Skating Competitions Subcommittee. Substitutions to the roster may be permissible up to two weeks prior to the start of the next qualifying competition. Note: The official form may be obtained on the Forms page of D. MUSIC Music for all qualifying competitors will be automatically advanced from the respective Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships to the 2015 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships assigned music staff. All teams receiving byes from sectional championships and competitors wishing to change their music between the sectional championships and the U.S. Championships must their new music, in mp3 format recorded at 192 kbps to William Donachie, Music Technical Coordinator at bdonachie@aol.com. This must be ed no later than Friday, February 13, **Please include team name and event level in file name** All competitors must have backup copies of their program music on CD s in Audio CD format available at all times during the event. E. OFFICIAL BULLETIN BOARD The official bulletin board will contain any announcements or changes, and it is the responsibility of the teams to check it often for official notices. Please refer to the Local Organizing Committee portion of this announcement in Section B for further information regarding the bulletin board. 3. INSURANCE/LIABILITY U.S. Figure Skating, the host club(s) and/or interclub association, the Local Organizing Committee and the ice arenas being utilized for these events accept no responsibility for injury or damage sustained by any participant in these championships. LOCAL ORGANIZING COMMITTEE (LOC) LOC Chairs 2015 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships Beth Flanders, & Don McKenzie, GENERAL INFORMATION The 2015 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships will be held Feb 25-Feb 28, 2015, at the Dunkin Donuts Center, located at 1 LaSalle Square, Providence, RI The championships are sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating and hosted by Warwick Figure Skaters. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS Before attempting to complete any of the forms mentioned in this packet, please read through all the materials. Many decisions must be made and you will need to gather from your team the necessary information to correctly complete these forms and to submit the required payment. If you choose NOT to participate in the 2015 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships, the team manager or coach must notify within 48 hours of the conclusion of the Sectional championships, via U. S. It will be open on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, from 5:00 pm 9:00 pm, and each day of competition 60 minutes prior to the first scheduled official practice until the end of the last official practice session or competition event. Please have one team representative come to the registration desk to collect your team s credentials and all other information, pre-orders, and merchandise no less than 60 minutes prior to your first practice session. BULLETIN AND NOTICES An official bulletin board will be located near the registration desk located at the front main entrance of the Dunkin Donuts Center. The official schedule of events will be posted on the official bulletin board and will supersede all other schedules. It is the responsibility of each participating team to check the official bulletin board for all official information. Notices posted here are considered sufficient notice to all teams. All teams must check the official board frequently. AWARDS Awards will presented to athletes on first through fourth place teams in each event at times designated on the official bulletin board. Medals will be given to all skaters listed on the roster who were present during the competitive event.

An admission fee will NOT be charged for unofficial practice ice held at Thayer/Warburton Arena. CREDENTIALS All athletes and registered coaches that are current members of U.S. Figure Skating and the PSA will receive a credential. In addition, each team will receive two additional chaperone passes. Credentials will be distributed to the team manager/representative at the registration desk. PHOTOGRAPHY Christopher Stockman Photography is the LOC photographer for the 2015 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships. Photography will be available for purchase during the event. LOCAL AREA MAP FOOD / CONCESSIONS The concession stands in the Dunkin Donuts Center will be open during practice and competition events. There are many restaurants located near the Dunkin Donuts Center. Please note the Dunkin Donuts Center does not permit food to be brought into the arena. MEDICAL STAFF / SERVICES Medical staff will be available during all official and unofficial practice ice sessions and competitive events. SCHEDULE / GROUPS A tentative schedule is provided at the end of this announcement. This schedule is subject to change based on the number of entries. An updated schedule will be posted on the event website, as soon as possible following the close of entries. The draws for starting order will be posted on the official bulletin board at the first official practice ice session. All initial draws will be closed draws. Subsequent draws following the short program will be conducted as open draws. HOTEL INFORMATION The LOC negotiated with The Zenith Group to manage hotel accommodations in the area. The Zenith Group has room blocks reserved for teams and family coming to the competition and will be held until February 24, 2015 based on availability. The Zenith Group, along with area hotels, is supporting our event financially. All teams are responsible for and must secure their hotel accommodations with The Zenith Group. Out of courtesy to others, it is requested that teams do not book rooms until they have confirmation that they have qualified for the championships, either through a bye, confirmed automatic advancement, or qualification at sectionals. As soon as possible, following the close of entries for sectionals, a chart of the number of teams advancing from each section will be published. AIR TRAVEL T.F. 9 PRACTICE ICE OFFICIAL PRACTICE ICE will be conducted per Rule The following applies to both the sectional and 2015 U.S Synchronized Skating Championships: Official practice ice segments for the following events will be in 12 minute segments (Rule 2944): senior free skate, junior free skate, and collegiate free skate. Official practice ice segments for the following events will be in 10 minute segments (Rule 2943): senior short program, junior short program, novice free skate, intermediate free skate, juvenile free skate, adult free skate, and masters free skate. For the practice ice segment for sectional and the U.S. Synchronized Championships, each team shall be allowed a short warm-up period prior to the start of the music. Each team shall be allowed to have their music played two times. No stopping or restarting of the music will be allowed once the music has been started. For the short program and free skate 10-minute segments, the music will be played for the first time no later than 1½ minutes into the session. The music will be played for the second time no later than the six-minute mark of the session. A 30-second warning announcement will be given prior to the start of the music for both playings. Any time left in the session will be announced at the completion of the playing of the music for the second time. For the free skate 12-minute segments, the music will be played for the first time no later than 1½ minutes into the session. Following the ceremony, the LOC will collect and hang team banners. Teams not present at the opening ceremony should turn their banners in to the registration desk to be hung.
