1 WEST WILTS Yr 7-11 GYMNASTICS & TRAMPOLINING COMPETITION Competition Format: Key Stage 3 and 4 individual competition (Gymnastics/Trampolining) Open to girls and boys Intermediate and Advanced categories (Gymnastics) Novice and Elite categories (Trampolining) Competition Rules: Competition Rules are attached. Please make sure that these are read carefully before the competition. Please note the classifications for each category which will enable you to enter your pupils into the correct category. Please also note that pupils MUST only complete the mandatory movements for their floor and vault routine in gymnastics. If pupils introduce different movements into their routine, they will not be marked on these and possibly loose marks. Gymnastics ELIGIBILITY Age Group SPORT Gymnastics School Years: Year 7/8/9 and Year 10/11, open to boys and girls Selected competitors must be on the register of the school they represent. Eligibility A pupil MUST enter only one sport (Gymnastics or Trampolining). Schools may enter as many sports and disciplines as they would like although places are limited.

2 EVENT FORMAT & RULES Categories: 1. Intermediate - floor and vault - For pupils who are part of a school club or practice less than 10 hours within an outside club (recreationally) 2. Advanced - floor and vault - For pupils who are part of an outside club and practice for over 10 hours Competition rules Criteria: 2 disciplines, floor and vault, to be completed by each competitor. Music optional for floor routine (music to be supplied on CD on the day of the competition). Floor sequence to last no longer than 60 seconds. Floor area will be 6m x 12m. Each gymnast will have the opportunity to perform their floor routine once and vault twice. Scoring: Each competitors performance is marked out of for each discipline with the mark then being Judging: A - Floor Sequence Each sequence will be judged from marks. The floor sequence movements (next page) are mandatory movements. This means that competitors must perform all the movements in their choreographed sequence. Competitors will lose marks if they do not perform the mandatory skills and will NOT have points awarded if they include additional movements.

3 Mandatory Movements: Intermediate: 1. Forward roll to straddle (to sit or stand) 2. Arabesque (hold for 2 seconds) 3. Tuck jump or star jump 4. Cartwheel 5. Shoulder stand (with or without hand support) Advanced: 1. Round-off 2. Full or 1/2 jump turn 3. Handstand roll or 2 x cartwheels 4. Bridge or splits or 1/2 lever (held 2 seconds) 5. Y balance Competition rules cont. Competitors will be judged on: 1. Execution of mandatory and other movements 2. Virtuosity 3. Posture 4. Flow 5. Clarity of shape In a good sequence a competitor will show many of the following abilities: 1. Great flair, artistry, style and accuracy 2. Good pace, tempo, flow and control 3. Excellent amplitude (really stretching in every movement) 4. Good posture throughout the routine B - Vaulting Vaults will be judged from marks. A box will be used for the vault. Competitors will have 2 attempts at the vault with their best mark counting. The vault movements (next page) are mandatory movements. This means that competitors must perform all the movements in their vault. Competitors will lose marks if they do not perform the mandatory skills and will NOT have points awarded if they include additional movements. The 2 attempts maybe at the same vault or a different vault.

4 Mandatory Movements: Intermediate: 1. Squat on, jump off vault (either tuck or straddle). 2. Jump on flight (shape) off vault. Advanced: 1. Squat or straddle over. 2. Headspring or handspring. Competition rules cont. Competitors will be judged on: 1. First Flight - the flight onto the apparatus. 2. Support Phase - in contact with the apparatus. 3. Second Flight - flight after leaving the apparatus. 4. Landing. 5. Shape and Technical Performance - in each part of the vault. Competitors will also lose marks if they do not perform the vault in a technically correct manner. If a gymnast shows a poor shape or untidy work at any time, or if he/she fails to complete the vault correctly, marks will be taken from the score. Penalties: Deductions will be 0.1 to 0.2 points for small faults, 0.3 to 0.5 points for medium faults and 0.6 to 1 points for major vaults. Safety: Before attempting any of the routines, pupils should have been taught the various skills in a safe and progressive way.

5 Trampolining ELIGIBILITY Age Group Eligibility EVENT FORMAT & RULES SPORT Trampolining School Years: Year 7/8/9 and Year 10/11 open to boys and girls Selected competitors must be on the register of the school they represent. All competitors must be under the supervision of a suitably qualified coach. A pupil MUST enter only one sport (Trampolining or Gymnastics). Schools may enter as many sports and disciplines as they would like although places are limited. Categories: 1. Novice Routine - For pupils who have not completed at Regional G including school club/recreational competitors practicing for under 10 hours a week 2. Elite Routine - For pupils who have completed at Regional G and above Criteria: Pupils competing in the novice category complete the compulsory routine twice. The routine is performed by, firstly, taking a number of preliminary jumps to establish jumping height and stability, then executing the skills in sequence, and finally standing still on the trampoline bed. 6 Pupils competing in the elite category either complete the compulsory routine twice or complete the compulsory routine first and then a voluntary routine. Voluntary routines have a maximum tariff limit of 4.0 Please note that the trampolining coach/teacher bringing the school to the competition must be suitably qualified i.e. pupils can only add somersaults into their routine if the coach/teacher is level 2 qualified. Pupils in the elite category and completing a voluntary routine must fill in a tariff sheet and bring it with them to the competition (see below). Elite Routine Compulsory (set) Routine 1. Back somersault (tucked) 2. Straddle 3. Seat landing 4. Half twist to feet to seat landing 5. Half twist 6. Pike jump 7. Back landing 8. Half twist to feet 9. Tuck jump 10. Full twist Each skill should show a recognisable body shape (straight, piked, or tucked) and be performed at sufficient height to show clear phases (take-off, flight, landing). Competition rules cont. During the routine the performer must not stop, nor land on one foot only, nor touch the springs, frame pads, safety mats or spotters.
