LAWRENCE SEAWAY Clelia II navigates the renowned Thousand Islands, a popular vacation spot for over a century. Then enter the St. Lawrence Seaway, a system of lakes, canals, and locks that provide a deepwater passage from Lake Ontario to the St. Lawrence River and a glimpse of North America s heartland. (B, L, D) Monday, August 2 MONTREAL, Quebec The second-largest French-speaking city in the Western world after Paris, Montreal is one of North America s most cosmopolitan metropolises. Stroll through cobblestoned Vieux- Montreal (the old quarter); resplendent Notre Dame Basilica; and Mont-Royal Park, where the Iroquois established their original settlement. 4 Tuesday & Wednesday, August 3 & 4 AT SEA IN THE GULF OF ST. LAWRENCE AND ATLANTIC (B, L, D) The St. Lawrence turns into a saltwater estuary beyond Quebec City in the Charlevoix region and a surprising variety of whales are found there in August. Belugas, minke, blue and humpback whales are summer residents and visitors, feeding in the rich intertidal waters. Starting at the Saguenay Fjord, where the river is over 10 miles wide, the north shore becomes increasingly wilder as it transitions from boreal evergreen forest to rocky cliffs. You will be sailing waters once visited by Vikings as we cruise northeasterly through the Gulf of St. Lawrence and past Newfoundland, where the Vikings settled at L Anse aux Meadows. Thursday, August 5 THE ROCKY COAST OF LABRADOR Sail to Red Bay on Labrador s mainland, established 400 years ago by Basques. Explore this national historic site and learn about its fishing and maritime traditions. Then sail to Battle Harbour, a small island near Labrador s coast. Founded in 1759, it prospered from fishing and maritime activities, becoming Labrador s capital in As the fishing industry faded so did this town, abandoned in the 1960s. Declared a protected national historic site, the island is now under the care of the Battle Harbour Historic Trust. (B, L, D) Friday, August 6 CAPE HARRISON Discover the stunning Labrador coast via Clelia II s Zodiac landing craft. Dotted with small settlements accessible only by sea or by air, the mountainous coastline is one of the most unspoiled regions of North America. The coastline is known as Iceberg Alley for the thousands of icebergs that traverse these waters every spring and summer before melting in the warmer waters off Newfoundland. (B, L, D) Saturday, August 7 HOPEDALE Sited on a peninsula and surrounded by hills facing the Labrador Sea, Hopedale was founded by Moravian missionaries in 1782 in the Inuit village of Agvituk ( place of the whales ). Spend the morning exploring this isolated community and look for polar bears, which are frequently seen on the ice floes. (B, L, D) Sunday, August 8 HEBRON The northernmost of the communities founded by the Moravians (1829), and abandoned in 1959, Hebron was declared a Canadian National Monument in Beautifully situated at the entrance of Hebron Fjord, we will explore this evocative spot and the surrounding area before we sail along the fjord-lined coast of North Labrador. 5 Monday, August 9 MONUMENTAL ISLAND, Baffin Island, Nunavut Explore tiny Monumental island, just off the southeast coast of Baffin Island, and look for polar bears and walruses, which frequent the waters around the island. (B, L, D) Tuesday, August 10 PANGNIRTUNG & AUYUITTUQ NATIONAL PARK n The Inuit village of Pangnirtung, built on the side of a spectacular fjord, is our gateway to Auyuittuq National Park. Ice-capped jagged peaks reaching to 7,000 feet, tundra, fjords, and glacier-scarred valleys mark the area. Explore this magnificent region and its abundant wildlife. Arctic hare, arctic fox, caribou, and polar bear are common here. The waters off the park are home to ringed, bearded, and harp seals; beluga whales; narwhal; and walrus. (B, L, D) Wednesday, August 11 AT SEA (B, L, D) Thursday, August 12 DISKO BAY & ILULISSAT, Greenland Sail into Disko Bay and explore the Ilulissat Ice Fjord, an extension of the Greenland Ice Cap, the world s fastest flowing glacier outside Antarctica. Cruise via Zodiac among icebergs and floes. Later, arrive at the Inuit village of Ilulissat, at the mouth of Ice Fjord. Explore the Royal Greenland Processing Plant, where the bounty of Greenland s seas is processed; the Knud Rasmussen Museum, named for Ilulissat s famous son, with exhibits on Inuit artifacts and Rasmussen s expeditions; and the restored Turf House. Visit the Danish-style timber Lutheran Mount Zion Church, from (B, L, D) Friday, August 13 SISIMIUT Cruise along Greenland s fjord-lined west coast to Sisimiut, an important fishing center. Set above the Arctic Circle, the midnight sun is visible here during the summer. The region was once occupied by the ancient Saqqaq culture that, archaeologists believe, migrated from Canada 4,500 years ago. See what locals call Legoland, a section of town with multicolored houses, and stop at the Sisimiut Workshop for Arts, an old warehouseturned-artists studio. Continue to the Old Town, whose oldest house dates to Visit Sisimiut Museum and the meat market. (B, L, D)

The deposit is $1000. Deposits may be made by check or credit card: Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover Card. The balance of the trip cost is due 90 days before departure, except where specified differently on individual itineraries. A signed reservation form and release are required prior to departure. All prices must be paid in U.S. dollars. Deposits are not transferable from one trip to another. Prices quoted are based on foreign exchange values and tariffs currently in effect and prices are subject to change. Weather in this area can be extreme, including high winds, rough seas and powerful waves. You will walk in areas with no developed trails where there will be slippery rocks, snow and gravel. 10 Additional terms & conditions imposed by the ship s operator, Travel Dynamics International Responsibility Please read carefully the following terms and conditions, which constitute the sole, legally enforceable agreements between the passenger and Travel Dynamics International and the tour s sponsoring organization. The passenger is also advised to review his/her separate ticket passage contract with the vessel s owner/operator, which will constitute the sole, legally enforceable terms of carriage for this tour and is available on request from Travel Dynamics International. Travel Dynamics International and the tour s sponsoring organization act solely as agents for the passenger with respect to all transportation, hotel and other tour arrangements. In that capacity, we exercise all reasonable care possible to insure the passengers safety and satisfaction, but, we neither assume nor bear any responsibility or liability for any injury, death, damage, loss, accident, delay or irregularity arising in connection with the services of any ship, airplane, train, automobile, motor coach, carriage or other conveyance, or the actions of any third-party, involved in carrying the passenger or in affecting these tours. All such losses must be borne by the passenger, and tour rates provide for arrangements only for the time stated. In the event of cancellation, delay or rescheduling mandated by any of the aforesaid causes beyond our control, the passenger shall have the option of accepting in lieu of the original tour such rescheduled tour or other substituted tour(s) as may be offered by us, or else, receiving a refund of as much of such advance tour expenditures as we are able to recover on the passengers behalf from carriers, third-party tour vendors, etc., but, we shall not have any obligation or liability to the passenger beyond the foregoing. We reserve the right to make alterations to the tour s itinerary and to substitute hotels or ships in similar categories if this is required. We reserve the right to cancel, delay, or reschedule any tour prior to departure, and, so long as this is not due to any of the aforesaid causes beyond our control, the passenger shall be entitled to a full refund of all monies paid to that point if he/she so desires. No refund shall be made for any unused portion of any tour. By forwarding their deposit(s), the passenger certifies that he/she and/or their dependents, minors or others covered thereby do not have any mental, physical or other condition of disability that could create a hazard for them or other passengers. We reserve the right to decline to accept or to decline to retain any person as a member of any tour should such person s health, condition or actions adversely affect or threaten the welfare or safety of other passengers or impede the tour. Baggage or valuables brought on the tour shall be transported, handled or stored at the passenger s risk entirely, and, we shall bear no liability or responsibility for any damage or other loss thereto. Resolution of any disputes arising hereunder shall be affected exclusively in the state or federal courts presiding in the City of New York, pursuant to applicable New York law.
