We will need your help to staff our booth and also to staff positions for the expo. These shifts are 2 hours long and the expo work shifts will get you free admission for the day. 3 January Outings We have our Kid s ice fishing day on 1/17 and our Club ice fishing derby on 1/24. If the weather cooperates and there is enough ice we may have a perch outing later in the month. If we are unable in January then we will fish perch in February. More information to come on this but if you re interested let me know at our meeting or contact me by phone or . Once we have a firm date I will send out an but I can call you if you don t get the newsletter online. Our outing will be on Lake Mendota. Sturgeon Bay Whitefish Outing Feb. 6-8 We will once again be having our Door County whitefish outing and you won t want to miss this great trip! Last year was our best trip yet with most catching their limit of these great fighting and tasty fish. We will be fishing out of Sturgeon Bay in heated shacks over the hottest bite. Rate is $60 per day which is discounted $20 under the normal rate and if we get over 30 people there may be additional discounts. This is a semi-guided trip which includes instruction, all transportation out on the ice and the heated shacks for a full day of fishing. We will also have our famous club lunch on the ice. You will have the option of fishing both Saturday and Sunday or just one of those days. Also a walleye fully guided add on is possible for an additional $50 per day. Finally depending on our location perch fishing may be available for no extra charge. We will not have another meeting in Feb. before the outing so we will have a brief in-service on fishing gear next week. We will also start arranging car pools and our accommodations. We will have 3 hotel options available. Cherryland motel which is no frills but cheap at $30 (tax included) a person with 2 in a room and even cheaper with 3 in the room. AmericInn at $70 a night per room which includes breakfast, 2-4 per room and the Comfort Inn at $69 a night including breakfast, 2-5 per room. I will be bringing a sign-up sheet to our meeting on 1/13 and am asking that you bring a $40 deposit if possible. If you can t make the meeting you can sign-up by contacting me through or phone. jimannepan@aol.com, March. We will be heading to the Fox River in Green Bay chasing walleyes. The date will depend on when ice is out but plan for 3/14-15, 3/21-22 or 3/ Last year with late ice the first opportunity was the last weekend of March. We may also have an outing to Bender Park on Lake Michigan (South Milwaukee) fishing for brown trout and coho salmon using like tackle close to shore with small boats. This depends on ice out again and may be done in April. Hope you all can make it! Jim Pankratz 3 V.F.W. Post Lakeside St. Madison
4 Notes From The Prez Yahara Fishing Club As I write this, it looks like winter has finally arrived in earnest, bringing a little snow, and lots of very cold weather. That should make for some predictably good ice on our lakes. That, combined with the passing of the holiday season and all of its time commitments, should allow me to get out there and start putting my ice fishing gear, thus far lying dormant in my basement, to use once again. It seems hard to grasp that the club s winter events (Kids Ice Fishing Day and the Ice Fishing Derby) are, respectively, less than 2 and three weeks away. We still have a need for Club members who can help with the events, so volunteer some time if you can. One of our new YFC Board members has suggested that we have a roster of all Club members, with contact information, available on our website to everyone in the Club. This seems like a very good idea to me, and I plan to make sure it is discussed when the Board meets. I would like to hear from other Club members regarding this, so feel free to send a message, or to comment at the next Board meeting, and share your thoughts on this suggestion.
