1 Risk Assessment Meon Springs Lakes Date: (1) Meon Springs Slips, Trips & Falls around the lake Footpaths and areas adjacent the water are potentially muddy and/or slippery, uneven with ruts and/or sudden changes in level and have branches etc. forming obstructions all of which may result in slips trips and/or falls. around the lakes Anglers should be reminded to make sure of their footing and to be aware of the nature of the ground to a higher level than would be normal on made paths. All individuals should be required to walk at a pace appropriate to the ground i.e. slowly. No unauthorized people should be allowed around the lakes Consequence Medium Consequence Medium Slips, Trips & Falls on the lodge decking When wet, the decking in front of the fishery lodge can become slippery. on the decking Warning signs to increase awareness of the hazard. Treatment with chemicals to reduce slipperiness. Consequence Medium Keep note in diary of when decking is treated, or keep a checklist.
2 Meon Springs Banks Banks by their nature are around these prone to be slippery and areas can subside Hooks unpredictably because of undercuts etc. Hooks are sharp and can puncture skin and cause serious eye injury if they are mishandled. The same cautions should be taken as Slips Trips and Falls. Anglers are strongly advised to wear eye glasses and optimally a hat with bill at the front at all times. Signage relating to this issue is posted in the fishery lodge. Consequence Medium Consequence High Fencing off and repair of any known area of undercut. Enforce the wearing of eye protection for everyone around the lakes. Groups under instruction will be made to wear eye protection. No unauthorized people in fishing areas.

4 Meon Springs Wildlife There is a variety of Individuals wildlife that bites and/or sting. that have allergic reactions triggered if they are predisposed.. The Fishery Bailiff and Instructors should monitor individuals for signs of distress. Individuals are normally aware of their predisposition and carry appropriate measures with them to self-medicate, if symptoms are observed the bailiff should enquire to ascertain if they have any known issues. Consequence Low Consider asking all attendees to the fishery if they have a pre-disposition to allergic reaction from bites and stings.
5 Meon Springs Zoonoses Weil s Disease is walking in triggered through water long grass. infected with the pathogen (normally rat urine) and Lyme s Disease is passed by ticks. putting hand to mouth. Participants should be encouraged to wash their hands before taking food or placing food into them. 7 Meon Springs Lightning Overhead Cables The rods in use are manufactured from carbon fiber. They are long and can conduct lighting. There is one overhead electricity cable that crosses the upper end of Coombe lake using a fishing rod in a storm could be electrocuted by lightening. Carbon fibre rods and wet lines conduct electricity and that can be fatal All fishing is suspended in a thunderstorm The cable is very high and poses no risk for rods and an angler would have to try extremely hard to vertically cast to the wires. Warning signs asking anglers not to fish in this vicinity are present. Consequence High Consequence Low
