1 CANTERBURY P r i m a r y S c h o o l Molesworth Street Canterbury 3126 Telephone or Facsimile Vol: 25 No: 07 Date: 15th March 2017 Our School s Purpose To create a passionate learning community that inspires, challenges and supports all students to achieve their personal best and make a positive contribution to the world in which they live Assistant Principal One of my core roles as the Assistant Principal is the coordination of student welfare. I am the main point of contact when student welfare or learning concerns arise in classrooms. I do this by meeting with teachers and parents to plan a strategic approach to supporting the needs of students. Much of the support we arrange for students comes from people outside of the school. I regularly liaise with these external professionals and department of education student support staff. These specialists include speech therapists, psychologists, occupational therapists and a number of specialised visiting teachers. These professionals support students in class but also make recommendations to parents and teachers to further aid student development. In some cases I write funding applications to the department of education for additional support for students in classrooms. This support comes in the form of the Integration Aide team and I work with this team to develop strong student support processes. Other areas of my role include the ICT planning. I coordinate the successions planning and purchasing for the technology infrastructure and hardware requirements for the school. One other team that I lead within the school is the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Annual Implementation Team. Our focus, drawn from the strategic plan, is to develop the capacity of teachers in the teaching of the STEM subjects. We are also looking for ways to encourage and champion exciting opportunities in STEM for the students such as the Makerspace and the Coding Consultant.
