At the age of 17 he commenced senior rugby with Newquay Hornets and played his first County Championship rugby for Cornwall at the age of 18. He also became a Colt Internaiional and was selected for the U23 XV versus Spain in 1986 but was injured and unable to play. 42 caps for Cornwall in friendly and Championship matches, including the 1989 Final. 21
