Eddie Jones Position England Head Coach Born Burnie, Tasmania Playing History Randwick ( ), NSW ( ), Australian Barbarians (1990) Coaching History Randwick (Second Grade 1994), Japan (1996), Suntory (1997), ACT Brumbies ( ), Australia A (1999, 2001, 2004), Australia ( ), Saracens Consultant (2006), Queensland Reds (2007), South Africa Technical Director (2007), Saracens Consultant (2007), Barbarians Assistant Coach (2008), Saracens Director of Rugby ( ), Suntory Sungoliath ( ), Japan ( ), England Head Coach (2015-to date) Eddie has achieved many things in his coaching career but guiding England to their first Grand Slam last winter in 13 years, followed by a 3-0 clean sweep against the Wallabies on Australian soil last summer is up there with the best of them. His first 13 matches in charge all produced victories. It followed the climax to his three years with Japan that brought about the biggest shock in RWC history two years ago when the Brave Blossoms achieved a win over South Africa at Brighton. Soon afterwards he signed a four-year contract to become England s first head coach from overseas. He was born in Tasmania to a Japanese- American mother and an Australian father, took charge of the Wallabies between 2001 and 2005 and delivered Tri Nations and Bledisloe Cup success. The national side reached the 2003 RWC final on home turf, losing narrowly to England. He has won trophies domestically and internationally and also spent time coaching in England with Saracens. His first major silverware came in 2001 when leading the ACT Brumbies to their first Super Rugby title. As a hooker, he represented New South Wales and his coaching roots were at Sydney-based Randwick, where he gave up a career as a teacher and school principal to mentor the club where he had played. Meticulous and professional in all aspects of the game, he said: It s a very exciting opportunity. England have won three of the past four World Cups at U20 level so there s great talent out there. All we ve got to do over the next four years is systematically be sure we bring in young players so that when they get to the 2019 World Cup they have the required amount of experience to be consistent performers.
Steve Borthwick Position England Forwards Coach Born Carlisle Playing history Bath Rugby ( ), Saracens ( ) Coaching history Japan ( ), Bristol Rugby Forward Coach (2015), England Forwards Coach (2015-to date) The day after completing an illustrious playing career, Steve boarded a plane for Canada to become Japan s Forwards Coach and link up with Eddie Jones, a coach he played under at Saracens. Now, almost three years on, he s still in Eddie s team but a different one after being the first appointment in a reshaped England coaching set-up that went on to mastermind the 2016 Grand Slam. Steve said: We can t play rugby all our lives and Eddie gave me the opportunity to work with the Japan team as I ve done when possible for the past couple of years. He appeared in 57 Test matches at lock for England from and captained the side 21 times between 2009 and Steve also led Saracens, having joined the club after ten years with Bath. He rose to prominence after representing England Schools 18 Group, Colts, U21 and Saxons, a team he also captained. His education was at Hutton GS, Preston and Bath University, where he obtained a degree in Economics and Politics, having moved south from Preston Grasshoppers. He played every minute of England s 11 Tests in A model professional, Steve captained Bath Rugby in the European Challenge Cup final win over Worcester Warriors in 2008 bridging a ten-year gap since the club s previous title. After signing for Saracens for , he was a Premiership winner for the first time in 2011 and retired from the game after making 265 appearances in the competition, a record that still stands.
Paul Gustard Position England Defence Coach Born Newcastle-upon-Tyne Playing history Durham, England U19, U21, Students, Sevens, England XV, A, Leicester Tigers ( ), London Irish ( ), Saracens ( ), Barbarians ( ) Coaching history Saracens ( ), England Defence Coach (2015-to date) Paul joined England s revamped coaching regime in December 2015 having stepped in as a temporary Assistant Coach four years ago for the match against the Barbarians and the summer tour of Argentina when Andy Farrell was unavailable because of Lions duty. He played all his junior rugby for Gosforth, stepped up to adult rugby with Blaydon and enjoyed a highly successful career that featured appearances for England at six levels, followed by his coaching contribution to England s Grand Slam last winter. In 1999, he figured in an England A squad that met the USA before appearing in three subsequent and consecutive matches the following year and scoring a try against Ireland A at Northampton. Paul, a combative back row forward, captained the England U19 team and the U21 squad on tour in Australia and was educated at Royal Grammar School, De Montford University and the University of Northumbria where he obtained a degree in Law. He joined Leicester Tigers, the first of his three Premiership clubs, in 1997 and made 173 appearances in the competition 79 for Leicester, 63 for London Irish and 31 for Saracens, where he later became the club s Defence and Forwards Coach. Under his guidance, they had a miserly try concession rate, using the wolf pack theory. The team hunts as one and keeps coming. Paul is the son of Steve Gustard, a powerful Gosforth wing who played in two winning Twickenham Cup finals in 1976 and In a single season, he touched down a record 42 tries and went on to coach both Gosforth and Blaydon.
Neal Hatley Position England Scrum Coach Born Chorley Playing history South Africa Students, Natal, Western Province, Bedford ( ), London Irish ( ), England A ( ) Coaching history London Irish Recruitment & Development ( ), Bath Scrum & Defence Coach ( ), England Scrum Coach (2016-to date) Neal was appointed last April after four years as a Bath first team coach that followed his 14 seasons as a prop forward and coach with London Irish. His excellent career brought 193 Premiership appearances overall for Bedford and London Irish and the climax to his four year span as an England A player was leading the side to their Churchill Cup triumph over New Zealand Maori in He then moved into a coaching role with the London Irish Academy. A Lancastrian by birth, Neal grew up in South Africa, was educated at Dale College in King William s Town, Eastern Cape and the University of Natal. He represented the national students side and also appeared for Western Province and Natal before moving back to England to play for Bedford. He joined London Irish in his late 20s and his total onfield rugby involvement lasted for 17 years. When Neal joined Bath, his family already had associations with the West Country club. Steve, his brother, was a Bath scrum half from before moving to London Irish and then to Sale Sharks. After joining the regime at Twickenham, Neal said: There could not be a more exciting time to be involved with English rugby. It s one of those jobs that if you don t take it, you don t know if it would ever come round again. For me this opportunity was far too good to pass up.
Rory Teague Position England Skills Coach Born Gloucester Playing history Spartans, Gloucester ( ), Bristol Rugby ( ), England U18, U19, Students ( ), Tarbes ( ), Grenoble ( ), Cinderford ( ), Barbarians (2012), Blackheath ( ) Coaching history Wasps Academy Kicking Coach ( ), Harrow School ( ), Saracens Academy Coach ( ), Hertfordshire, RFU International Performance Coach ( ), England Skills Coach (2017- to date) Rory s philosophy about the game is: Relish the opportunity and enjoy every experience. Go out and make things happen. He has done all that both in playing and coaching and a new challenge with England has beckoned him. He was the highly successful England U20 Backs and Attack Coach before becoming the fulltime England Skills Coach in January this year. He had been involved on a temporary basis last autumn. He had previously made an impact with Saracens, the Aviva Premiership champions, where he was Academy Coach. He said: It was a great experience to work across the teams with a club at that level. It was a big chapter in my coaching career, working with players in the pathway such as Mako Vunipola, Maro Itoje, Nick Isiekwe, Max Malins, and Jack Nay. We won the Aviva A League and also lifted the LV=Cup. He started at Spartans, a club in Gloucester where his grandfather Colin, a Gloucester prop of the 1960s, took him every Sunday. Rory said: He has played a big role in my life both on and off the field. He was schooled at Churchdown Secondary, where his cousin Mike, the former Gloucester, England and Lions back-row forward, was also educated. Rory went on to Hartpury College, where he took a National Diploma in Sport Science and is currently studying towards his RFU Level 4 coaching qualifications. Rory played at fly-half, centre and full back and his career included a four-year spell in France with Tarbes and Grenoble. When he returned in 2011, he found his way to Cinderford through former Gloucester teammate Andy Deacon and was the top point-scorer in National One that season with 254. Having landed a coaching job at Harrow School, he then became part of a close-knit squad at Blackheath. He played for the Barbarians against Loughborough Students five years ago and in 2013 captained England Counties in the defeat by an Ireland Club XV and subsequently led the side that beat France Amateurs 27-7 at Ealing Trailfinders.
