Senior Hurlers Look To Continue Good Form Best of luck to our Senior hurlers in action against Lucan Sarsfields this Sunday morning at 10.30am in 12th Lock. They will be hoping to continue the good form that saw them pick up two points against Crumlin in the first round 2 weeks ago. Injury concerns AJ Murphy and Matthew Oliver will be hoping to be fit for this week s game after missing out against Crumlin. Padraig Buggy and Feargal Breathnach will be looking to continue with their good form from two weeks ago and will be much needed against tough opposition in Lucan Sarsfields who are also in the same group stage of the Senior A championship as our Senior hurlers. Expect this to be a close game as Na Fianna battle to get two more points and Lucan look to pick up their first win of the league. Good Home Win For Our Senior Footballers Na Fianna 0 22 Cuala 0 11 Our Senior footballers first home league game was played last Sunday in lovely dry Spring conditions in Mobhi Road. Despite Cuala registering the first score of the game, Na Fianna gained control of the game early on, with Conor McHugh proving too hot to handle for the Cuala defence, scoring six points from play in the first half. He would go on to score ten points in all during the game and also drew numerous scorable frees which were converted by Jack Caffrey who notched up five points from dead ball. While Cuala s Conor Mullally was doing his best to orchestrate his side s play, Na Fianna were getting the upper-hand in most of the individual match ups and went into half time leading 0-13 to 0-5. The second half was a repetition of the first half, with Na Fianna maintaining their grip on the game and while the play was a little more evenly balanced, the result was never really in question. 18ú Márta

Bookings for both week s Easter Camps have been very strong. If interested book today, see Club website for details. Please note that children must be at least 5 years old to take part. Na Fianna 5K Fun Run The organisers of the Na Fianna #5kFunRun are calling on you to take part in an early rising this Good Friday. The run starts at 10am when the newly elected Mayor of Na Fianna Aisling Deignan will open the event. This is a fun run so why not make it a family affair with juveniles (under 18s) only 10 to take part. The #5FunRun has got everybody talking and many age groups are planning on running together - is yours? The U16 footballers/hurlers have already been out training by doing the route. 18 of the group (and 3 mentors) tested the course posting times ranging between 24min 50sec to 27min 8sec, see photo on next page. They look forward to doing better at the real event next week. If you are taking part why not let us know by or posting on the Na Fianna Facebook page. 18ú Márta
Reasons for taking part in the #5K Fun Run There will be drinks and cakes for all and an Easter treat for the kids As with all Na Fianna events this is where you can meet your club members and others from our local community. The #5kFunRun is a chip timed event so you can compare it to other 5k runs you do Use it as a marker by getting a time this year and see can you beat it next year after your training (be the fastest player or mentor in your age group) For those who feel they can challenge for first place there are medals for 1st male and female finishers and they will get their names on a trophy that will be on display in the club cabinet How to register for the #5kFunRun To avoid disappointment we recommend you register before the event. There are 3 ways to register: 1. Online through the link found on 2. Bring your entry fee to one of the #5kFunRun registration times - during the nursery on Sat morning or in the club this Mon or Tues pm 3. Entry forms can be downloaded from and when completed can be dropped to Na Fianna with your entry fee. And don't worry if you aren't around to do the #5kFunRun - there are other ways to be part of this great event Why not sponsor someone you know who is doing the run! Can you provide some sandwiches or cakes for those who take part? Let us know by ing funrun@clgnafianna.ie The organizers are also looking for help with course marshals so if you can why not get involved and let us know you can help by ing funrun@clgnafianna.ie 18ú Márta
O Dea s Honoured at Gradaim an Uachtaráin At a special banquet in Croke Park last Friday night and televised live on TG4, Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Aogán Ó Fearghail presented awards acknowledging the outstanding commitment and long service across the club, and county network from people whose highly valued contribution may not be recognised on the national stage. Among the recipients were Na Fianna s O Dea family who were presented with the Annual Dermot Earley Family Award. This award was made in recognition of their huge contribution to Na Fianna GAA over the last 20 years. Anne has been on the Club Executive Committee, GPO Steering committee and also has served as Club Registrar. At County Level she is currently Cathaoirleach of Dublin Go Games Fixtures while also serving on the County Bord na nóg Committee. Her husband John has coached many juvenile teams from nursery level upwards. John and Anne s three sons are also extremely active in the GAA. Mark, Paul and Eoin have all played both hurling and football for the club as well as representing Dublin at various levels and codes. 18ú Márta
Speaking at the event, Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Aogán Ó Fearghail said: I m delighted to present these awards this evening to incredible members of the GAA, members whose tireless dedication and commitment help make the GAA what it is, the length and breadth of the country and indeed around the world. A club family as wide and diverse as ours would not be possible without the enthusiasm of so many people who take great pride and satisfaction in being involved in what is a movement of like-minded people. He continued Tonight s recipients serve as an example to the legions of volunteer members who power the GAA. These people follow in the footsteps of those who did this before them and who influence the generation that will come after them. I laud each and every one of them. Anne speaking on behalf of the O Dea family said that it was a great honour for the family to receive the award. She said We re just a small part of a great club, full of volunteers. Heartiest congratulations to the O Deas. 10 Garda Mentor Vetting In Na Fianna The National Vetting Act is due to come into law in April This will mean that anyone working with children (U18) or those in the club with regular contact with children will be breaking the law if they have not received clearance. The act also states that every organisation must set its own time frame to re-vet. The GAA has set every 5 years. A useful document published by the GAA giving guidelines relating to this new legislation is downloadable here. This document was updated by the GAA in June 2015, and is subject to change. Who within the GAA needs to be Garda Vetted in accordance with the Act? Coaches: In the context of the GAA those members, i.e. coaches, trainers, mentors, parents and others who provide services to children and vulnerable adults, on behalf of the Association, and who are in direct contact with children or vulnerable persons in the GAA shall be vetted. It should be noted that it will be illegal for an individual to put themselves forward to work with children or vulnerable adults before successfully completing the Garda Vetting Bureau process. Committee members: As a policy of best practice, it is strongly recommended that Officers of Committees that oversee underage and juvenile activities at Club and County level should also be vetted. Referees: Referees of underage games must also be vetted. Are there any exemptions from vetting for occasional or temporary roles? While the preference of the GAA is to vet all persons who work in a role of responsibility with children and underage players there is a recognition that occasionally a guest coach may be invited to work in a supervised role with children. At the discretion of the local Club or unit it shall be permissible for a person acting in an occasional or temporary role, who has not previously been vetted by the GAA, to fulfil this role as per the following conditions: The person must be known to the local Club or unit A non-vetted individual may only carry out a temporary role for a maximum of three occasions per year All such persons must be over 18 yrs of age They must, in advance of commencing their role, complete and submit a vetting application form (e.g. AccessNI/ Garda Vetting) They must sign a copy of the Code of Behaviour (Underage) 18ú Márta
They must at all times be under the supervision of a vetted volunteer/staff person The GAA, Ladies Gaelic Football and the Camogie Association recognise each other s vetting procedure. This means that a person vetted by the GAA will not have to be revetted by Ladies Gaelic Football, by Camogie or by Handball or Rounders. For ease of administration Na Fianna utilise the GAA Garda Vetting service for all mentors. All forms (available on club website) should be completed and returned to the Club marked for the attention of Gerry Corcoran, Garda Vetting Coordinator. Gerry can be contacted at corcorangm@gmail.com or See Club website for links to forms and additional information. and finally Congrats to Colm, Shirley, Eve and Larry Burtchael on birth of baby girl, Martha. Fógra Tabachtach The objective of is to communicate as much club activity as possible however it is important to note that all items for inclusion in either Club Notes or are reported to pro.nafianna.dublin@gaa.ie or texted to by Sunday evening. With a membership of 2700 and approx 100 teams now competing it is difficult to ensure all club activity is reported upon Do not assume that your team s activity is already known to or that someone else has reported it. When errors or omissions occur it is the policy of to correct these in subsequent issues when they are reported to pro.nafianna.dublin@gaa.ie 18ú Márta
