3 **Represented prices are from May Travel information Getting to Umag is a two step process. Firstly, you will be required to catch a plane to one of the airports near or within Croatia. These may be: Zagreb, Ljubljana, Venice, Rijeka, Pula, Trieste, Split or Zadar. From there you will need to either take a coach or rent a car. The travel part of this pamphlet is divided into two sections. The first will list the flights and prices from each of the major airports in your respective countries, while the second part will explain the coach or car you will be required to take to arrive in Umag. 1.1 Flights Please note that all listed flights are valid at the time of research (May, 2015). From there another bus needs to be taken from Zagreb to Umag. Coaches: When travelling from Zagreb Airport to Zagreb Main Coach station do not take a taxi. They will charge you 40, while the price of a bus is 5. These are prices for one way. 10 Coaches: Airport bus will take you from Venice Airport to Venice Coach station (Mestre). The bus departs every 30mins and costs 6. From there a Coach will take you to Umag for 18 in one direction. Rijeka Umag Coaches: from Rijeka Airport take the bus that runs approximately every 30min. Prices are around 6 in one direction to Rijeka Main Coach station. For more information you can contact them at - (Tel: +385 (0) ; info@autotrans.hr). Coaches from Rijeka Main Coach station to Umag leave at 13:45h; 17:14h; 19:00h. They take you directly to Pula Main Coach station ( No e mail availale). Coaches go from Pula Main station on 5:15; 9:30; 14:15 to Umag and the duration of the trip is 1:30h. 11 Coaches : From the airport you can catch a bus directly to Trieste Coach main station for only 3.5. From Trieste Main station a coach departs every 30 min for Umag costing no more that 6 and lasting only 50min. 11

14 2.2 How can I book apartment Once you register for the event, it includes 2 nights accommodation at the Stella Maris Resort. Once everyone from your Country has registered, we will allocate rooms to you based on how many people that you have registered. We will treat it on a first in best dressed arrangement. 16 4. Registration & AGM 4.1 Registration Registration will take place between 6-9pm on Friday 9th October near the reception of the Stella Maris/Resturant Laguna. Please see the attached map for exact location, including all other relevant locations. All players must attend to check in, recieve your tshirt, after party wristband, and any additional information necessary. 4.2 AGM The AGM will be taking place on Friday 9th October, 5pm at the Hotel Sol Garden Istra, Meeting Rooms. All are welcome to attend but please note that only full member countries have the right to vote. 5. Tournament Format & Expectations 5.1 Tournament Format The Axios Euro Cup is a 9- a- side tournament with matches played on soccer fields. The matches will be 12.5 minutes (men) and 10 minutes (women) long with 2 halves and a half time break of 2 minutes and 3 minute change over between games. Given the strict timing with changeover please ensure your teams are organised. For the men s division there will be 4 pools followed by finals rounds in the afternoon. Teams who are not playing need to provide 1 volunteer to be goal umpire. For the women s teams 2 of 3 teams not playing at one time will have one player from each team volunteer as a goal umpire. You will be provided with match results sheets at the beginning of the day, these are to be handed to the match manager at the conclusion of your game. Teams are advised to provide their own energy drinks, water bottles and fruit, however there will be water available at the facility. It is also advised that all teams bring cash as there are ATM facilities about 300m from the resort but may not be easy to access. Each team may have 16 players on the list and no more than 9 may be on the pitch at any one time. During the tournament there must be no changes to the team list (even if there are injuries or members unable to make it on the day). Players entering and exiting the field during the game during substitutions must do so through the interchange gates, which will be the area between both team benches. 16

17 5.2 Tournament Expectations Laws Matches shall be conducted in accordance with the Laws of Australian Football (Europe), as updated in April content/uploads/2013/03/laws- of- Australian- Football- Europe pdf. The Laws are interpreted by the field umpires and applied based only on their split- second view of each and every incident. Only clear instances of ducking shall be deemed prior opportunity and not be penalised as a high tackle. Umpires will err on the side of caution they are more likely to award a high tackle. Deliberate rushed behinds are not penalised: a behind is recorded. Deliberate out of bounds will be paid if in the umpire s opinion the player s sole objective was to take the ball out of play. One player from either team is permitted to contest the ruck at a bounce or boundary throw. Advantage can be recalled where it becomes apparent there was no advantage. 25m penalties are applied in place of 50m penalties. Both passive and active encroachment of the protected area should attract a 25m penalty. No interchange cap or substitute rule are in effect. A reminder to all players from a Soccer or Rugby background. There are strong sanctions against slide tackles and fend offs present in the Laws. All players have a duty of care to their opponent to use only reasonable legal force in the circumstances. Indemnity Participants take part in the tournament at their own risk and should consider securing appropriate insurance cover. Responsibilities of Officials Field umpires shall have full control of all on- field matters within a match. 17

18 Boundary umpires will not be used until the latter stages. Goal umpires shall have sole responsibility for scoring decisions, though input may be given by the field umpires. Depending on the number of available umpires, teams may be asked to supply one volunteer for a small number of matches. Umpires are expected to officiate to the best of their ability with empathy, impartiality and decisiveness. They are expected to pay only the clear and warranted free kicks that they actually see. The umpires decision is final. Field managers will work closely with Tournament HQ to ensure the day runs smoothly. They will manage the logistical concerns for their field. They have full control over the kit supply for the field (including stretchers), timing of matches, blowing the siren, keeping a record of the match score and votes submitted. They will have a roster to ensure teams and umpires are ready to start each match. Without our officials, we can t run the tournament to the standard everyone desires. Your respect and understanding of their role is therefore appreciated and expected. Conduct of Players, Coaches and Spectators Australian Football is a sport played by humans, umpired by humans, coached by humans and watched by humans. Humans are prone to making mistakes, so respect the humans! Players have a duty of care to their opponent and are expected to play in accordance with the Laws. Coaches and support staff are expected to lead their squad by example. A positive environment for the players and umpires starts with the coach and his or her leadership group. Supporters are encouraged to be vocal but respectful. Cheer your team positively and avoid derogatory remarks about the opposition or the umpires. Make a point of celebrating great performances from others. Any participant found guilty of racial or sectarian vilification of any description will result in suspension from the remainder of the tournament. Format The tournament shall consist of group stages and finals stages. Teams shall be drawn into groups and play a round robin format. Matches consist of two 12.5m halves, with a 2m interval. Halves may be extended to 15m in Finals and Semi Finals matches. There is no time on. A match will stop if a stretcher comes onto the field, but the game clock will continue to run. For the mens division, the results of the group stages will determine which teams go onto into the Cup, Bowl and Plate competitions. In the Cup, teams shall contest Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Final stages. In the Bowl and Plate, teams shall contest Semi Finals and Finals stages. Placing matches shall be arranged in this phase. For the womens division, the top two teams shall play a Final. Result of Match The team that records the higher score at the conclusion of a completed match shall win. 18

19 If the teams are level on points at the conclusion of the match, then: It shall be deemed a draw in group stages Golden score shall be played in all other matches except the Cup Final and 3 rd Place match In the Cup Final and 3 rd Place match, teams shall play extra time of 2m each way. If no winner is found, a further 2m each way shall be played. If there is still no winner, Golden Score shall be played until a winner is found. If the match is unable to commence within 5m of the scheduled starting time because: one team is unwilling or unable to present themselves for the centre bounce, they shall forfeit the match as a 50-0 loss and may be subject to sanctions both teams are unwilling or unable to present themselves for the centre bounce, the match shall be deemed a draw and either or both teams (as the case may be) may be subject to sanctions of reasons outside of either team s control, the match shall be deemed a draw If the match in progress is stopped through no fault of the teams and is unable to recommence, then if the match was stopped: after half time, the progressive scores shall be recorded as the final scores of the match before half time, the match result shall be recorded as a 0-0 draw Disputes Must be lodged at the earliest practicable opportunity and no later than 19:00 on the day of the tournament. Matters shall be lodged through the correct channels. In the case of a: disputed match result, the president of that member league shall lodge the matter with the Tournament Director member league disputing either the: o eligibility of a player to play o identity of a player listed on a team sheet in a match against its team and that player took part in that match, the president of the disputing member league shall lodge the matter with the Tournament Director reportable offence or other complaint against a player, the umpire shall lodge the matter with the Umpires Manager complaint made by a player against a player, volunteer or umpire, the president or his duly his/her duly authorised representative shall lodge the matter with the Tournament Director and also the Umpires Manager. All non- trivial disputes duly lodged shall be heard by an independent panel of three persons. Disputes that do not affect the outcome of the tournament will be heard at a later date. 19

20 The burden of proof is on the disputing party. The alleged offender(s) are presumed innocent until proven guilty. In matters of reportable offences, the umpire shall be deemed as an independent witness. Disputes shall be heard in accordance with the Laws. The disputing party must present its evidence to the panel and the accused shall be given a right of reply. The panel shall consider the evidence and arrive at a verdict. The panel s verdict shall be final and will be binding on the parties. Any sanction shall apply immediately. For duly severe sanctions, the relevant member league shall be asked for its cooperation in applying the remainder of the sanction in local competitions. In cases where the dispute is upheld and the dispute was lodged at a time or in a manner that caused the outcome of subsequent matches to be affected, the panel shall consider this in determining the appropriate penalty. The proceedings of any hearing may be recorded to enable an accurate adjudication to be made. The particulars and outcome of any disputes heard shall be noted for future reference. 6. Food All apartments boast kitchenettes for the use of all guests, breakfast will also be available for 6 per person ON SATURDAY ONLY (please see front desk for instructions). Throughout the tournament food will be available for purchase. Please bring Cash to the tournament as there will not be any card facilities when buying food, ATM's are onsite (please see attached map). Lunch trucks available at playing fields. After party buffett dinner included on Saturday. 7. Merchandise Cash or PayPal will be available onsite for Euro Cup merchandise. 21 Post/After Party The after party will kick off at 8pm on Saturday at Night Bar Planet (please see attached map or ask reception for details) ** Wristband given to you at registration is required for entry. Do not lose or forget this! 9. FAQs, Contacts & Map Must all teams have matching uniforms? Each team must have a full kit of jumpers and ideally matching shorts and socks. Shorts must not have pockets. Every jumper must be individually numbered. What playing equipment do we need? All players are advised to wear a mouth guard. Suitable football playing footwear must be worn (not runners). Metal studs on boots are not allowed. Players who wear headgear are permitted to do so. AFL Europe will provide match footballs in both mens and womens sizes, however we will not have enough footballs for teams to train with. Do we need Insurance? Please make sure your personal insurance covers your participation at the Axios Euro Cup or you have a valid European Health Insurance Card (blue card). If you have further questions speak to your team manager or governing body. AFL Europe will not be held liable for any injuries that occur. On Friday evening for the registration can we send one team representative to the venue to register? Yes, if you collect all teams registration details you can bring these and you can do it on behalf of the team members. What happens if teams finish on the same points? In this case (particularly for the women s competition) we will go to the percentage for that team. How will votes be collected for team of the tournament? 21

22 This will be based on a 3,2,1 vote provided by teams about their own team. There will also be a few representatives walking around the grounds watching players.
