3 Since 1964 VW is a very big employer in Emden. In this factory the VW Passat is produced. Volkswagen has about 9600 workers and they build 1250 cars a day.

4 Emden has a big green area called Emder Wall. It was built in the 17 th century as a defense and surrounds almost the whole town. The foursquare lock (Kesselschleuse) is an important and unique building and connect four waterways. It was built in 1880 and is landmarked.

7 People at the MAX: -700 Pupils - 60 Teachers - 5 other Employees Our principal is Mr. Frank Tapper. The MAX is a very new school building, it was built in 2015, because an other school needed our old building. We have a new Gymnasium as well.

8 Our school is very athletic orientated. We have a lot of school teams in different kind of sports. Every year we organize events, such as rowing regatta and dragon boat race.weareactiveinotherkindofsportsaswell. We have the G9 system in Lower Saxony, what means that we have to stay13yearsatschooluntilour Abitur (A-level).

11 Max Windmüller -Max showed resistance to Hitler during the NS-regime in Germany. Early in his life he became a refugee. -Our school is named in memory of Max Windmüller. M a x

12 -He was born in Emden in 1920 and he had four brothers and sisters. -They were all Jewish. -At the risk of his own life Max and his friends were able to rescue about 400 people from being killed by the NS-regime. -Among those refugees were more than 30 Jewish children. -He also rescued his younger brother Emil.

13 -In 1944 Max was betrayed and was arrested. -From the over-crowded concentration camp Buchenwald he had to march to Dachau. -On this brutal death march, tired out, and not provided with food, he was shot by a supervisor shortly before the war ended.

26 Sports in Eastern Frisia Ostfriesland has many sports and today we show you two of them. Jelto and Bente

27 Klootshooting The goal of the game is to throw a small ball as far as possible with a short start and jump from a ramp. The field fight is carried out in regular competitions in four passes with four players each, and therefore it stretches over hours and long distances.

29 Boßeln The teams throw alternately, in which the previous team is having the first throw. Each player starts with his throw at the landpoint of the frontman of his team. If the opponent of the previous team does not succeed in catching up, the opponent gets a point.

31 The Schlickschlittenrennen is a traditional sports event in Pilsum. During low tide a race with wooden sledges takes place. Each participant has to glide with his sledge above the mud. He needs to push the sledge forwards while kneeing on it and stepping with the second leg in the mud. They have to push hardly in the mud to get speed. It's very slippery and wet. The fastest rider wins the race. It's a lot of fun for the spectators.
