3 SECRETARY S REPORT Fáilte roimh gach duine a bheid I lathair ag an comhdhail bhiantuíl It has been such a privilege for me to be secretary of the Dr. Crokes club over the past five years. I guess I thought I'd never get over the first year but as the saying goes time flies when your having fun. Learning from both our achievements and losses on and off the field is key for our club to moving forward. Everyday is a learning process within the club. I borrowed the words of our club President John Moynihan, " there will be better days ahead", well John, I think were on the right road. SENIOR TEAM: No change in management again in 2006 and the season began exactly as we finished in winning ways. Turnout at training is huge both on an off the field.this team produced some great performances throughout the year. Along 2006 many questions were asked of this team.. all were answered. Losing our second County Final in two years was heartbreaking. However, the performances in the aftermath of the County Final proved the Black and Amber are still a force to be reckoned with both within Kerry and now on the bigger stage of Ireland. Huge credit due to all the players involved, to Eanna and Brian Mac travelling from London each weekend, players travelling from college each night for training, players coming straight from work. It has been a long year. It just shows the commitment and appetite these lads have for the game. Also to Pat, Martin and Eddie great job all year and thanks for shortening our winter... JUNIOR TEAM: It was a quiet and short season by our junior team standards. Great to see James Cronin and Mike Cooper coming on board at the start of the year to join Tommy and Eddie on the sidelines. This team participated in all competitions opened to them. When full complement of players were available to our selectors, our junior team played great football and a pleasure to watch. Frustrating times for our mentors to get a level of commitment from this team at times over the year. A team who can and should win all competitions open to them. Lets hope it goes better in U21 TEAM: This team had the potential to cause a major shock in the County Championship in Add the" players can only play if their aged between 19 to 21" rule together with the minor ruling, it's hard for us to field a strong U21 team. And 2006 was no different. The U21 team is such a vital cog on the ladder of any club as it is seen as a stepping stone from minor into the senior set up. MINOR TEAM: An exceptionally dedicated bunch of players and mentors. These young players gave tremendous commitment all through Five minor panelist in 2005 and five in 2006 tells it's own story of the depth of this team. It has been a long season for players and especially those dual minor and senior player whom are still training with our senior team. Like our senior team losing two County Final on the trot is devastating but the lads battle through competing in their last game of the season near Christmas. It seemed like a year of two halfs for this team in 2006, games came fast and furious early in 2006, a loll during the summer months and back on full blast again in the later part of the year. Hard to keep teams focused and great credit is due to John Galvin, Billy, James, Denis and Jim. HURLERS: Huge commitment is evident in this team. The hurlers began training early in 2006 and continued that trend until close to the end of the year. At times, for our mentors and trainers their main aim alone was to keep our team as like the minor football situation I've mentioned before. Some competitions began early in the season and seemed to drag on and on over the course of the year, leaving our hurlers with weeks free without matches. This break certainly takes the edge off teams and this cost us dearly in the later stages of competitions. Realistic boards should be looking into the reasons why this is happening and looking positively into preventing these situations occurring year after year. LADIES FOOTBALL: Ladies football continues to grow and flourish within the club. Dr. Crokes are participating in every grade, from Saturday mornings, U10, U12,U14, U16 Minor and Senior. Many of our players were called up to green and gold and various stages through the year. The training put in by the ladies teams are on par with the men's teams in the club and members are urged to go and support these teams. JUVENILES SECTION: One of the most important sections of the club, the juvenile section is the backbone of our Club. Huge effort is placed in this section at every level and now this can be seen at senior level. A special word of thanks to all the mentors involved with teams from Saturday mornings under 6's right up to our U16 teams.we are reaping the rewards of their hard work... The Clubs sponsorship deal with Uhlsport expires this year after three years together. Sincere thanks, to both Patrick O'Sullivan and Naill O'Callaghan whom continue to liaise with Uhlsport. No doubt we will be offering to continue our partnership with Uhlsport, but they're not willing if not I'm sure other companies will line up for the chance to be associated with our club. Our weekly lotto, the main source of our clubs income continues to be a success,. the commitment of our sellers, checkers, promoters over the last number of years has been tremendous. The clubs development continues with plans in place for The monster draw finished above every persons expectations and funds collected will have a massive bearing on these plans. Each day around the grounds brings a day of new ideas and fulfiling dreams which only lay on paper a short time ago. Our facilities are shown in sports magazine the length and breath of the country with other club trying to follow. I say "follow ", as we all know Crokes have always laid the first mark. Huge credit is due to Der Brosnan, Mike Buckely and all the Development and Finance committee members. Dr. Crokes were once again represented hugely in the Green and Gold in None more evident once again in Croke Park on All Ireland Day when no less than eight players togged out on that September day. Congratulations go to all who wore the county jersey with pride and some going on to win major honours, these include Kerry Seniors Eoin Brosnan, Colm Cooper, Kieran Cremin, Kieran O'Leary, Kerry Minors Alan Kelly, Mike Moloney, Jamie Doolan and Johnny Buckley, Patrick O'Sullivan Development Officer, Harry O'Neill team Masseur and Niall O'Callaghan maor usice. Congratulations to Kerry U21 players Luke Quinn, Kieran O'Leary and Andrew Kennelly, Kerry Minor panelist Ian Howard, U16 South Kerry Munster Champions Fionn Fitzgerald, David O'Leary and Daithi Casey, Kerry Hurlers Barry O'Grady, U16 Kerry Ladies Emma Galvin, Edel O'Carroll, Danielle O'Brien, Kerry Beckett, Fiona Sheehan, Kerry Primary Games, Bryan O'Shea, Cian O'Lionard and Rheanne O'Shea. The list continues to grow each year. Congratulation to our U14 Hurling Team who participated in Feile na ngael in Cork during the year. Historical moment indeed. The team produces some great hurling and held themselves well in this underage prestigious competition. Congratulation, goes also to Geraldine Lyne and her committee for their huge efforts in revitalizing Scor. Crokes are now participating in both Junior and Senior Scor. Once again I would urge members, to help out if possible Geraldine and / or support members taking part in the competition. If members know any kids / adults that are interested in music,singing, dancing etc. and may not realise that Dr. Crokes are in Scor, please get in contact with Geraldine. Special word of thanks goes to our Events Committee, the amount of work this committee have done over the past year has been phenomenal. From the beginning of the year, organising the social to feeding the players two nights a week after training. I'd say at times even Deborah Anne and the girls were thinking of changing their postage addresses... Congratulations to Pat on his role as the Kerry Manager and wishing him the best of luck in Hopefully by September some of our players may have 2 All Ireland medals... A special thanks to our FAS people Sean O'Sullivan and Denis O'Connor for keeping our facilities in top class shape over the year. Thanks to County Board and East Kerry Board delegates, Tim O'Sullivan, John Keogh and Donie O'Leary. Sincere thanks to everyone who gave me tremendous support over my five year, definitely too many to mention, all my fellow officers both past and present, all team mentors, members of sub committee and all club members for their help, courtesy and co-operation. 4 SENIOR TEAM REPORT After a long hard season in 2005, we once again gathered ourselves and began to prepare for the upcoming season. We started training on the 22nd of January. this session was just a light kick around and was well attended. We got down to brass tacks the following Wednesday night. The season had began. Training as in previous seasons went well and the players made a big effort right throughout the season. The Superleague began on the 26th of February with an away game to Gneeveguilla. A good win after a very poor turnout. One man that did not let us down on the day and helped himself to He shall remain nameless for now but he did go on to bigger and better things later in the year. Just to go back to the 28th of January, when we played the previous seasons Munster League Final against Nemo Rangers in Enniskeane. We played very well on the day and with ten minutes to go in that game we were just 3 points down. Nemo went on to win 1-12 to 1-06 but we were delighted with the way we played. We also set that record straight later in the year. The Superleague continued with a bye in the next round. Then we beat Glenflesk 1-11 to 9points in Glenflesk. Next round Rathmore failed to field a team, so we were in the first final of the new season. This was played in the Fitzgerald Stadium V Spa. Our lads turned in a top class performance on the day and won. We also had a great individual performance from the man who played centre back that day. He will also remain nameless. Training continued and lads were beginning to find a bit of form, just in time for the start of the County League. This began on March 19th with an away trip to Laune Rangers. With a full panel to pick from we went there, played poorly on the day and were soundly beaten.we moved back to winning ways in the next round at home to Rathmore. Then we drew with Kilcummin next round, won away to St. Mary's, drew with Stacks, won at home to Listowel Emmets. We continued to do well in this competition. We won our next tow matches, then lost to An Ghaeltacht, beat Gneeveguilla and also beat Milltown / Castlemaine in the last game, which gave us a chance to reaching the Final but alas Laune Rangers beat Kilcummin and progressed tot the final where they in turn met Kerins O'Rahillys. Just to rewind a little bit, the big competition of the year began for Crokes in mid June. This of course was the County Championship. We were picked against Kenmare in our first game. We played in the Fitzgerald Stadium, a great team performance on the night and we advanced with our too much difficulty to the quarter finals. This game was a different kettle of fish all together. It was against Milltown / Castlemaine. The games was played in Tralee. A very tough encounter but again we got through with a win and we were back in the Semi final. This match was against Mid Kerry and was a really tough, bruising game. Overall, a good performance through and we progressed to our 2nd Count Final in as many seasons and we were given another chance to try and beat the team that had won the County Championship the previous season and in doing so beaten Dr. Crokes. We were very well prepared and ready for the October Showdown. A good game of football and one that we felt that we had chances enough to win but it wasn't to be and on the day we were beaten by the narrowest of margins. A difficult defeat to take but as they have done so many times before and will do again we are sure. They picked themselves up and got ready for the next competition. This of course was the Munster Club Championship and a perfect game for us.two weeks later was a semi final against the earlier mentioned Nemo Rangers in their own back yard Pairc Ui Chaoimh. A great buzz in the build up by our supporters and in the town in general and seemed to rub off on our panel of players and they did not disappoint. It was our first time back in this competition for 15 years and we were really focused. The lads played very well on the day and beat Nemo well, a Munster Final beckoned and against Waterford opposition " the Nire", a couple of weeks later. Back to local football in between and a meeting with Spa in the East Kerry Championship. A win and progression to the semi final and a meeting with Gneeveguilla. Training continues and the lads seem to be getting better since the County Final, a tribute to them. Next up the Munster Club Final. Played in Cork again, we played very well in the first half and opened up a good lead. We defended very well in the second half and even though we only scored once in the second half in very unsavoury conditions, we recorded another great victory for this club, another Munster Club Final Victory. No time for celebrating thought because after victory over Gneeveguilla in the O'Donoghue Cup semi final we had a meeting with local rivals Kilcummin in the Final the following week. Once again well prepared after a long, long season the lads put in another big performance and came out victorious. All in all another great season for the senior players and it continues. The journey isn't over yet and by the time this is bring read by all of you, I hip this team will be preparing for an All Ireland Semi Final after victory in London and maybe this time next season we maybe congratulating the team on becoming All Ireland Club Champions. Thanks to everybody that helped out with the team all year, to many to mention, that of course included off the field as well as on. It is appreciated. 5 SENIOR TEAM 2006 JUNIOR REPORT This was a quite year for the Junior Team. We competed in 4 Competitions starting in March and finishing as early as September. Although the juniors performed adequately in all competitions we didn t put ourselves in contention for silverware. Our first Competition was the East Kerry Junior League with some good performances. We reached the semi-finals which we played Spa who were too strong for us on the night. The County League kept us going up to early August, playing a total of 10 games every Friday night. We missed out in qualifying for the semi-finals. It was a competition we used alot of players. I felt when we had our strongest team out, it was good enough to win this competition. Next the Moylneaux Cup, we played a very strong Listowel side, we were no match for them. We lacked in experience and physicality that night. It was time for the O Sullivan Cup. Our First game was away to a very strong Currow side, we came away with a great win and our Best Performance of the year from all the lads. Next we had a home semi-final V Listry. We didn t perform to the level we expected and Listry deserved their win. On a final note I wish to thanks all the panel of players for the commitment to the juniors throughout the year. To our supporters, club officers for all their help and support. 6 U-21 REPORT This year again we started preparing early and it was a help that alot of the U21 players were part of the senior panel. The East Kerry Championship began early and we were down to play against Firies in the 1st round on the 5th of February. They failed to field a team and we were given a walk over. Next up was a quarter final stage V Spa. A very very hard game and Crokes won eventually by 2-11 to 2-10 A.E.T. This game was played on February 19th In the last week of March we met Rathmore in the Semi final and after another titanic battle we were beaten A.E.T. by 1-13 to This was not our best performance. The County Championship came in mid summer and we met tournament favourites and eventual winners St. Brendans in the quarter final. Once again we were unable to play any minors and because of this rule which denies club teams the opportunity to put out their strongest team, we were lucky to be able to field a team. Having said all this, the performance our players gave that night in front of our home support was absolutely fantastic and had a few little things gone a bit better on the night the lads might have caused a major upset. Credit to everyone that put on a Croke jersey that night. We eventually were beaten by 5 points. Nearly all players are under age again this year so maybe they might pull off an East Kerry / County Championship double this season. We wish them the very best for the upcoming season. MINOR REPORT Dr. Crokes Minor Team had a roller coaster year contesting 3 finals losing the County League and County Championship Finals to Kerins O Rahillys winning the East Kerry Minor League Final and losing the East Kerry Minor Semi-final to Spa. The County League final versus Kerins O Rahillys was a terrific game of football and Dr. Crokes were unlucky to lose having played the last 10 minutes of normal time and all of extra time with 14 men. The County Minor Championship final despite a thrilling fight-back scoring 8 points without replay and a fine goal from Buddy O Leary was lost to deserving champions and physically superior Kerins O Rahillys. Dr. Crokes were represented on the Kerry Minor panel by Michael Moloney, Alan Kelly, Johnny Buckley, Jamie Doolan and Ian Howard. Hopefully this year should prove third time lucky for Dr. Crokes minor team in winning the County Minor Title. The experience gained and the fact that 11 of last years team are underage this year could make the difference. Cronin, Denis Galvin, Ruairi Mangan, Jamie Doolan Subs used: Diarmuid O Donovan, Shane O Neill U-16 REPORT Another successful year for the club at under 16 level. We competed in three competitions, the East Kerry League, East Kerry Championship and the County Championship. We won the East Kerry League early in the season, with a 12 point victory over Firies, a narrow goal victory over Spa in the semi final, and a terrific win over our close rivals, Legion, by five points in the Final. This lined us up nicely for the East Kerry Championship, where we defeated Kenmare easily in Templenoe, and Legion narrowly in the Semi-Final, before challenging Spa n the Final at Fossa. This game was to be the game of the season, with a skill level displayed by both teams that augurs well for the future. It was ebb and flow throughout, but aided by two goals, one from Mark O Donoghue and the other a penalty by Shane O Neill, we entered the last minute with a score of 2-12each. Cometh the hour and cometh the man, and substitute Cian Buckely kicked a marvellous winning point to give our lads a narrow but deserved victory. The fighting spirit shown in the second half by all the Crokes team was a joy to behold. We moved on to the County Championship during the Summer, and knew what we were facing when defeated by 10 points by Austin Stacks in our first game in Tralee. We recovered well to beat Dromid 4-16 to 4-4, and easily defeated Ballymac before playing a strong Kerins O Rahillys side in the semi-final in Castleisland. On the night we did not perform up to our ability and lost by 1-10 to 6 points, despite everybody giving their all. The improvement in this group of players is continuing, and 7 of the team ( Fionn Fitzgerald, David O Leary, Daithi Casey, Shane O Neill, T.J. Cronin, Niall O Connell and David Nesson ) were part of the East Kerry Under 16 team which won the divisional County Championship. Three of the lads, Fionn, David and Daithi also represented Kerry South in the Munster Under 16 Championship. Many thanks to fellow selectors, Vince Casey, Matthew Courtney, Enda Ward, Garry Barry and Jimmy Coppinger for the great support during the year as well as the parents and followers who attended all the games. 7 U-15 REPORT The U15 team played in East Kerry. This was a knockout competition. With a very young team this year, they were beaten in the first round. Alot of last years players and the current U14 players should make up the U15 squad for the coming year. These two combined should make for a strong team for Selectors: Donie O'Leary. Harry O'Neill, John Egan, Enda Ward. U-14 REPORT Our U14 team started the year early with a trip to Nemo Rangers grounds in Cork to compete in the Mick O Brien Memorial Tournament. We travelled without many of our older players but competed well in the competition. A very strong tournament in all and good way to give our lads a taste of what other teams outside of Kerry have to offer. In the County League we competed in Division 2 with a very young U14 team. Again the competition was very strong but we competed very well. Alot of this team is underage again in 2007 so the experience they gained in 2006 should stand to them in this years competitions. In East Kerry our U14 once again faced tough opposition in this competition. Our team played some great football and just failed to make the semi final stage. Overall a great bunch of lads. The numbers at training were very good throughout the year. They lacked a little of the physical side but none could question their football ability which must be seen as a huge plus for the future. Mentors: Joe Maye, Micheal Fitzgerald, John Egan, Patrick O Sullivan. U-13 REPORT East Kerry Competitions seems to go from strength to strength each year and 2006 was no different. Our U13 team was one of the strongest teams to participate reaching the semi final stage just losing to Spa by 1point. The majority of this team will make up the U14 team for 2007, so promising times ahead. Mentors: Joe Maye, Micheal Fitzgerald, John Egan, Paudie Murphy. U-10/11/12 REPORT U12 Report Picking from a panel of 44 players, we had two teams. Our A Team played in Division 1 of both County and East Kerry Leagues. This team played 14 games in total, winning 6, drew 1 and losing 7. Our B Team played 13 games in total, winning 8 and were defeated in just 5 games. U11 Report In this East Kerry Competition we had two teams involved. In group 1, 6 teams competed in this group with Crokes winning 4 and losing just 1 games. This team finish second in the group which was a great achievement. In group 2, 4 teams competed in this group with once again Crokes finishing second, winning 2 games, drew 1 and lost 1. In the U11 Firies Blitz, we lost narrowly to Glenflesk in the Final. U10 Report U10 Blitz took place in Spa, Crokes played a total of 5 games against teams from Cork as well as some local rivals. We were by far the strongest team at the blitz and won all games as well as the Final in convincing fashion. Joe Maye U-6/8/10 REPORT Training started back the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day. We had big numbers for the St. Patrick's Day Parade. The day was very enjoyable for the kids. Saturdays went full steam ahead after that with over 100 kids most Saturday mornings. Within a month or so Under 8's and U10's played numerous challenge matches against clubs around Kerry both home and away and was very successful. Again we held our Easter and Summer Camps with large number of kids attending. To finish the year we held our Halloween and Christmas party's. A special mention must go to the ladies committee and our sponsors. 8 SENIOR HURLING REPORT The year 2006 proved to be a frustrating one again for the Dr. Crokes Intermediate Hurlers. Having had a very lively players meeting in January, we put great emphasis on searching for new additions and encouraging existing panel members to put their shoulders to the wheel once more. As it turned out, as the year progressed we lost more players than we gained thereby weakening our panel considerably. Nevertheless, the players we had gave it their all and put in a gallant effort under the auspices of Team Manager, John Lenihan & Captain Brian Darcy. Team Training commenced on the 28 th February with Kevin Smyth and Brendan Keogh doing the physical on the Crokes sand pitch. Tough sessions 2 nights per week with an average turnout of 10/12 players was promising enough considering we had 5/6 players away during the week. This ensured the majority of our players were in good enough shape for our first competitive League game in late April. Prior to the commencement of the League, Johnny Dunphy organised an indoor Training Day in Nemo s new facilities in Cork. 25 players and some supporters travelled by bus and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience our thanks to Johnny for organising same and for getting the year off to a flying start. In April /May we played in the Duhallow/South Kerry League and lost matches to Banteer and Meelin thereby ending our interest in the competition but gaining good experience in the process. The County Board in their wisdom, decided to change the structure of the League this year which resulted in us having only 4 league games before the knockout stages. This did not help us and we need regular competitive games to improve. Having beaten Kenmare in our first league game, we performed poorly in our next game losing heavily to Kilgarvan in the unusual surrounds of the Glenflesk pitch. We played challenge games against Newtownshandrum and Kanturk and this sharpened up the team and we qualified for the quarterfinals of the league to play Ladies Walk at home by beating Causeway and Abbeydorney. Unfortunately indiscipline cost us a player early in the match against Ladies Walk and while the Crokes played gallantly, we lost narrowly. This match was played on the 12th June and we did not have another competitive match until the Co Intermediate on the 29th August. This was a crazy situation and while the players kept training diligently and played a few challenge matches, we lost our match sharpness and this resulted in a heavy defeat to Kilgarvan in Fitzgerald Stadium. It was unfair on the players to go so long without a match and to make matters worse a weakened team lost again to Kilgarvan by a single point in the South Kerry Final. With hurling now thriving at underage in the club it is imperative that Crokes maintain a senior team but this is going to require more support from the club and its members. It is nearly 25 years since hurling was revived in the club with Murt O Shea taking the field to make up 11 in a game against Gneeveguilla in Fossa. We must ensure it keeps going. Finally, we would like to thank all the players who togged out during the year, especially those who travelled from Cork for matches and training, Der Brosnan, Tracey O Shea, John Keogh and Patrick O Sullivan for their cooperation and support during the year, Kevin Smyth for helping out at training and our sponsor Tom O Donoghue for his continued generosity. We also wish the Senior Footballers the very best in the quest for All-Ireland Club glory. We are all behind them. Finally, we wish Pat O Shea the best also in his new role as Kerry Manager and hopefully we will see a lot more of Sam in Crokes. The juveniles are fully behind you, Pat. Yours in Sport John Lenihan, Pat Kennelly, Dave Cotter, Brendan Keogh U-14 HURLERS - FÉILE REPORT The Dr Crokes under 14 hurling team travelled to Skibbereen last June to test their skills against other teams from around Ireland and London in Féile na ngael. Resplendent in their new tracksuits and gear specially acquired for this big step in their development and with the help of sponsors, Slieve Bloom Manor B&B Muckross Road, AIB Killarney, ESB Moneypoint, Ulster Bank, Coca Cola and Killarney Credit Union, all 24 hurlers set off on their venture. The first game against Skibereen s O Donovan Rossa team was hard fought, with both teams sharing the spoils in the first quarter. Ryan O Carroll started the scoring with a point from 20 meters out, which was followed by another from a well taken free by Evan O Donoghue. Midway through this half the Crokes boys took a lead of three point after Aodhán Burns shot two points over from play and Bryan O Shea scored a great point from the sideline about 25 meters out. All this effort was wiped out when Skib scored a goal. But the Crokes would not lie down. First Ryan Carroll drove on goal. But the Skib goalkeeper saved a superb shot. However, Brendan O Keeffe came back on another attack and slotted a brilliant shot to the back of the net, to have Crokes leading 1-5 to 1-2 at half time. Brendan O Keeffe started the second half with a monster point from 45 meters out against a very strong breeze. Unfortunately, this was Crokes only score in the second half. With the aid of the wind, O Donovan Rossas launched attack after attack. Graham Fleming in goal pulled of a series of fantastic saves. Captain Senan Lavery, Jason O Shea and Jonathan Clery put in huge efforts to hold the line. However, Skib brought the game back to a single point and in the dying moments saw a shot skim off a Crokes helmet to take an unnatural loop into the goal. This stroke of bad luck meant a loss for Dr Cokes in a game where they had dominated and showed the better skills.

9 The next opposition was another Cork team Kilmacabea. This was the game of this group, with the lead ebbing a flowing like the tide. Unfortunately, the tide was out for Crokes when the final whistle blew. Again a late goal saw game lost by two points. Evan O Donoghue slotted over two frees from 45 meters out and then banged home a 21 yard free for a goal. Brendan O Keeffe scored another point from 20 meters and out the right. In the second half, Tadgh Moore rose to catch a lobbing ball on the 13 meter line turned a slotted a beauty to ripple the net. Anthony Cronin finished the scoring with a point from right side 13 meters out. Kieran O Donnell and Conor Fitzgerald were fantastic in defence, as they were in the first match, cutting off attack after attack. Laurence Byrnes played his heart out and betrayed his young age with the maturity of his game. Late in the second half he received an injury and had to leave the game. The final game was against a London side. They Crokes boys were determined not to return to Killarney without a victory under their belt. We got a great start. Matthew Moynihan pulled a ball out of the air a hammered home a goal. Brendan O Keeffe took two points from play with Anthony Cronin adding another. Then came a golden period for Crokes. It started with Anthony Cronin chasing down a ball that was given up by most for a wide. But Anthony kept it in play, turned a banged home a goal from close range. Anthony Keogh and Aodhán Burns followed up with goals of their own from the 13 meter line, one right, one left. Evan O Donoghue finished off this brace of goals from a 20 meter free. Brendan O Keeffe changed tack and floated a point from way out and on the left. Tadgh Moore completed the scoring with a huge score, a goal from the right hand side and surely 45 meters out. The final score was 6-5 to 3-6 in favour of Crokes. Senan Lavery (Capt) lead his team by example and was a tower of strength in defence, picking up every attack that came his way and always came out on top. He was ably assisted by Vice-Captain Conor Fitzgerald. Graham Fleming showed great agility as he stopped shot after shot in this game. Crokes left the tournament in positive mood, with the sweet taste of victory. The entire panel played their hearts out and nothing more could have been asked of these boys. They returned in spades the support they got from parents and family who travelled to see them play and from Club members and committee at home along with our generous sponsors. A bit of bad luck and the hop of a ball were all that between Crokes and a spot in the semi-final. Our lads came away in the knowledge that their ability to hurl is on a par with their counterparts in Cork and London. They have learned a lot from the experience and gained a confidence in their skill levels that stood to them as they faced the County League final a few weeks later. County Champions the Dr Crokes Under 14 hurlers claimed their crown against Austin Stacks in a game that took extra time to decide. It was a game where the defence on both teams dominated for much of the game and scores where hard earned. However, Crokes were first off the mark with free from 30 yards taken by Evan O Donoghue. He followed this with another from a bit closer in. Ryan O Carroll was also busy and made space for himself out on the right wing and slotted over a beautiful point. But all this hard work was cancelled when Stacks banged in a goal. Young Laurence Byrnes was in fine form and ably assisted by David Leacy, these lads set up many an attack. Aodhán Burns was busy on the wings and caused a lot of heartache for the opposition when he moved in closer to goal. But this was a game when the backs showed their prowess. Lead by Captain Ciarán O Donnell, who put on a masterful display of hurling, stopping attack after attack and clearing ball right, left and centre. Ciarán was man of the match in this encounter. Close behind was the ever constant Senan Lavery. Strong as ever, he stood up to everything that was thrown at him and always came out on top. Jonathon Clery had another brilliant game and was always on top of his opponent. Stacks tried three different men on Conor Fitzgerald, but small, tall or middling, Conor handled them all and is by far the most improved player this year. Cian Ó Lionáird, though very young, played with great maturity and put on a fine display of hurling. Scores being level at full-time, the game went into extra time. Crokes made a few judicial positional changes and took over the game. Anthony Keogh went in full forward and switched with Anthony Cronin who now played in mid-field. Both players found this to their liking and upped their game enormously. Ignatius Curtin and Alex Goggin moved into a forward position and caused a lot of problems for the Stacks defence. Cian McDermott, who only took up hurling this year and John Ivory, who is will still be under 12 next year, played their part too and were not found wanting. Both players have great futures in the game. Graham Fleming, in goal, saved his best performance for the final. In one move, late in extra time, when his goal was threatened, he shouldered the attacker off the ball, took command and cleared the ball out to mid field. This typified his performance on the night - gutsy. Another free from Evan O Donoghue, followed by a tremendous goal by Anthony Keogh and finished off by a second point from Ryan O Carroll saw the Crokes lads take victory. The game ended 1-5 to 1-1. 10 JUVENILE HURLING REPORT Under 12 Hurlers: After a good indoor and outdoor season in 2005, our under 12 hurlers moved into Division 2 for The step up in standard and level of intensity was a big ask of our hurlers as many of the 2005 boys had gone overage, however the 2006 panel was not found wanting and in the long term the experience will stand to them in the years ahead. We had games in the county league against Ballyduff,Dingle, Kenmare, Abbeydorney and Kilgarvan. There were some noteworthy performances and we pushed Ballyduff, Dingle and Kenmare all the way before losing narrowly. We did not make it to the knockout stages however it is heartening that our lads gave a good account of themselves in this higher division and we are now looking forward to building on that in The U 12 hurling panel:- A Goggins, A Burns, M Burns, C O Donoghue,C. All of these outings proved to be very enjoyable and the hurlers constantly look forward to such games. Butler. J Lenihan, M Treacy, J Ivory, M J Burns. U-10 HURLING REPORT The season kicked off in mid-march 2006 and training was on Saturday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30. We built on last year s panel and now have increased out numbers to 26 age 8,9 & 10 s. Overall training was well attended and the skills levels definitely improved this year although it has to be said that we will have to look at having training mid-week also if we are to make any impact as not many Juvenile players are practicing their skills at home! The appointment of John Bergin as South Kerry Hurling Officer by the Co. Board and Central Council increased the awareness of hurling here in Killarney and in fairness to John, he attended 5/6 Saturday morning sessions and initiated a few GO games minitournaments which were very well run and the kids really enjoyed taking part in fun games which concentrated on learning the skills and participating not so much on the winning side there will be plenty of time for that in the future. In Mid-April our u-10 team traveled down to play Kenmare in their new astro-turf complex and in a very entertaining match we were beaten by an older and stronger combined Kenmare/Kilgarvan team but we produced some good hurling and everyone was happy to see some progress. In May, our u-10 team played an exhibition match V Kenmare/Kilgarvan at half-time in one of Kerry s home league games at Fitzgerald Stadium which again gave much needed exposure to the development of juvenile hurling in South Kerry. On the initiative of John Bergin, Crokes again hosted a Munster Under 10 blitz. There were 16 teams in all and Dr. Crokes were pited against Mallow, Dunmanway and Kilgarvan. We had 3 excellent games and were definitely not out our depth in this company. This was a great experience for our lads and they were all delighted to play against new opponents. We also participated in a mini-go games competition that included Dingle, Rathmore and Laune Rangers which again showed significant improvement in the skill level of our players. Ballincollig also brought their U-10 s to play hurling and football and this was a great contest and we were narrowly beaten and are already looking forward to a return match in Ballincollig next year. In October/November last, we traveled on 3 Friday nights to Tralee to the new all weather pitches in Tralee IT which was a new and very enjoyable experience. This was a real treat for the kids and it is surely the way forward to promote Juvenile hurling in Kerry. I sincerely hope the powers that be look at developing an all-weather hurling pitch here in Killarney. All this talk about helping the weaker counties in hurling now forget about talk let s see some action! Anyway, here s the challenge all ye parents I know this is a proud footballing county with years of tradition but let s not forget about the promotion of our own national sport the fastest field game in the world hurling! Please let s give your children the opportunity to learn the skills of this great game you never know they might like it. Also, please ask your schools to introduce hurling. As it is, the schools already have soccer, basketball, rugby, football etc.ask why not hurling? Thanks to all the parents of the existing panel of players for their commitment and time keeping. Special thanks to our coaches, John Lenihan, Mickey Joe Burns and Paul Griffin..We could do with a few more coaches going forward to hopefully deal with the increasing numbers!

11 U-6/7 HURLING REPORT As numbers were increasing on Saturday mornings, it was decided to split the younger players/beginners from the older groups and this proved a great success. Matt O Neill agreed to take control of the younger hurlers and was ably assisted by Mary Treacy and Martina O Sullivan Darcy. This was a great boost to get the ladies involved and it had the desired effect of attracting some new up-and-coming camogie players and the hope if that this will develop further in the years ahead. The U-6/7 had a great year and John Bergin, the newly appointed South Kerry Hurling officer attended 4/5 Saturday morning sessions to share his expertise with some go-games that were greatly enjoyed by all participants. In the latter part of the season we hosted a combined U-6 s mini-tournament with players from all surrounding clubs attending it was heartening to see kids at this age being given the opportunity to actually enjoy participating in it. LADIES FOOTBALL REPORT Ladies football in the club continues to thrive with more girls than every taking part. Alainne Kavenagh took over running the Saturday morning sessions. Under her guidance they played a lot of challenge games and even took part in an Under 10 blitz ran by Corca Dhuibhne. The girls did very well in this blitz and where delighted with themselves. Under 12 s The under 12 s finished runners up in the Division 2 league this year. The girls trained hard all year with the help of Paula McElligott. They played some lovely football and are improving every year. Jessica Edwards was part of the Kerry under 12 team, which won an Inter-County Blitz in Clare. Jessica played in 3 of the games and scored 2 goals. Well done also to Catherine Keogh who was the coach of this county team. Under 14 s 2006 was defiantly this teams year. They remained unbeaten in their league campaign and came away the Division 2 leagues winners. The girls where out standing they played all their games with great skill and determination and a never say never attitude. A big thank to their coaches Marie Cahillane and Catherine Keogh for all the work they put in. We also had a number of girls from this team who wore the Kerry jersey this year. Megan Buckley, Karena O Leary, and Rhianna O Shea all lined out with the Callini Na Oga team and Rhianna also was part of the Under 14 county team. Under 16 s Our under 16 team didn t fair well this year. Because of the number of girls we had playing for the county team this year and the refusal by their coach to release his team to their clubs. We played many of our games very under strength. But the girls who where available to play the games give it their best and played with great skill and a lot of heart and they seemed to enjoy playing even if they lost. It would make you realise that its not all about winning if children can play their best, shake hands and have a laugh and a sing song on the way home then that s what football is about and we must be doing something right. Well done to Emma Galvin, Edel O Carroll, Danielle O Brien, Kerry Beckett and Fiona Sheehan who where on the County under 16 panel who made it to the semi-finals over the All-Ireland Championship. Minors Although we have only a small panel at this age group and sometimes have to rely on some of our under 14 girls to make up a team. We played our hearts out and have made it in the final of the Shield in division 2. The date has yet to be set but hopefully it will take place in the coming weeks. Seniors Our senior team bowed out at the semi-final stage of the championship this year. But I am sure under the guidance of James Cronin who took over training the team this year that the team can only improve. We will be back in training in the up coming weeks and we are hoping for a big commitment from the girls for the up coming season. GOLF SOCIETY This was the thirteenth year of our Society and once again it was another very successful year in which we had 8 outings. Our Golfer of the year was Ger O Shea, who played magnificent golf all year. Ger won our first outing and also won the President s prize, which was held in Kenmare in and Joey Sheehan won his fifth Captain s prize in Lackabane. There is an average of 52 hits every day and on days after big matches there is a huge increase. The biggest number of hits in one day in 2006 was the day after the Nemo game which was won by Dr Crokes. when whopping 1782 hits were recorded. On the day after we beat Nire in the Munster club final 943 people logged on to If you have not logged on to our club website in recent times just enter and see the great work done by the website group. 13 EVENTS COMMITTEE REPORT The Events Committee continued to thrive, led by chairperson Ann Byrnes. In early February Sheila Dickson, Ann Bartlett and Deborah Ann sewed up a new set of armbands for the club ably assisted by Noreen Cooper and some of the children who enjoyed their lesson on the sewing machines under the guidance of Sheila. On February 26 th in the clubhouse we had our underage Medal Presentation, preceded by a Drugs Awareness talk. Thanks to Mary Moynihan of Coca Cola and Sean Culloty of Four Star Pizza for providing refreshments. Our Annual Social was postponed by two weeks due to the death of Billy Duggan R.I.P, a former member of the Social Club where he was active in a number of capacities most notably in the recruitment of spot prizes for the annual social. We also had a change of venue this year to the Killarney Avenue Hotel thanks to Denis McCarthy and Stephen Tucker for all their assistance we had a great night. The Keogh family presented a perpetual cup to the club in honour of the late Haulie Keogh R.I.P. which was presented to young player of the year Kieran O Leary. Brian O Callaghan put a lot of work into an excellent Power Point Presentation featuring events in the clubs history. As well as being M.C for the night Der Brosnan had us all scratching our heads to figure out who the bonny babies were in a photo quiz, thanks Der. Patsy Courtney was called upon to blow out some candles on his Birthday cake, Congratulations Patsy!. Crescendo kept the floor full all night. Despite the late night most of us were up bright and early the following morning to prepare the St.Patrick s Day float. That s dedication!! We were unlucky not to win any prizes this year but well done to all the helpers and participants, thanks to Joe Maye for driving the truck on the day. The clubs Super Draw was launched by G.A.A President Sean Kelly in April, with a cheese and wine reception at the clubhouse. Thanks to all the ladies for a wonderful spread!! We were kept busy during the year making tea and sandwiches for the teams in our own club as well as the various Kerry teams. We gave Nemo Rangers a great spread when we hosted a challenge game in July, rumour has it they are still talking about Ann Bartlett s home-made apple pies! The Barbeque was a wonderful evening thanks to the tremendous efforts of numerous club members Joe Maye, Brian O Callaghan, Pat Kenneally, Siobhan Courtney, Ann Byrnes, Deborah Ann, Anne O Neill, Breda Cronin, Noreen O Connor Ann and Harry Bartlett to name but a few. Thanks to all the ladies who brought salads and Seamie and Patrick for organising refreshments. Our thanks again to our sponsors Coca Cola, Chapter 40 and the Laurels and the Avenue for the use of their tables. Pat O Shea and Der Brosnan shared their Birthday cakes with us as they were celebrating significant birthdays. We had wonderful entertainment from Colm and Jackie O Mahony, Thanks lads!! On All Ireland Final Day RTE and TG4 used our facilities with a live telecast. Thanks to Noreen Coffey from Ballycasheen N.S who coordinated the decorating of the clubhouse and to Breeda Neeson and her crew who looked after proceedings. There was a great turnout on the day, the atmosphere was fantastic and all looked wonderful on T.V Thanks again to all involved. Deborah Ann and Noreen again gave up a lot of their time to make sure club supporters could get their flags and gear, selling on Saturday mornings and organising nights before the County final thankfully to date they are still very busy selling! They also looked after our coaches for the summer camp it is much appreciated. Other events that kept us busy throughout the year were a press conference before the County Final, an enjoyable Halloween Disco, thanks to D.J Pat O Shea and Niall for the use of his equipment and sponsors Eamon and Valerie Courtney. Der Brosnan triumphed again as Quizmaster for our annual Quiz at the Tatler Jack with Breda providing the nibbles. Richard Kelly captured some budding Crokes stars on DVD for the night. Thanks to all involved. Tadhgie Fleming organised a very well attended club mass in November which was celebrated by Fr. Tom and Fr.Paddy. The chat and cup of tea afterwards was enjoyed by all. Tadhgie and Bridie O Shea organised our annual retreat to Ardfert in December which was well attended. Our Christmas Disco was also sponsored by the Killarney Oaks, and again Pat O Shea was D.J watch out Botty!! A special thanks to Seamie Doherty who played a very important role on the night, Ho,ho,ho. Our chairperson Ann Byrnes retired from Changes hair salon during the year and it certainly has been to our advantage she spends a lot of her free time slicing chicken, mashing eggs and preparing the salad for the senior teams twice weekly training sessions, Thanks Ann and to everyone who helped us in so many ways during the year. 14 FINANCE COMMITTEE REPORT 2006 was the year in which we had aimed to clear our outstanding debts in relation to the club s development at Lewis Road. The original plan was to finish off the three playing pitches, extend and equip the existing clubhouse, and build a new stand capable of seating 800 people. Following on the success of earlier fund raising ventures, we decided to install flood lights on the second pitch for Winter training, and to reconstruct the embankment to allow for tiered steps and greater visibility at games. The third pitch is now seeded, and final construction of the stand will take place in 2007, thereby completing the development as envisaged. This has been achieved by the success of our Super Draw, which was launched last April, and which is ongoing until March We have held three draws to date and wish to congratulate all the winners thus far, especially those that have had the good luck to win twice! The draw involved sellers from all areas of the club under the stewardship of fifteen leaders who were given the responsibility for each team of sellers. Congratulations to everybody who put in the effort to sell tickets. In all, 868 tickets were sold, grossing 312,480 and once the prizes are paid for, we are left with a net 225,000 approx. which far exceeded our expectations. A huge effort was put in by most people in the club, but special mention must go to Liam Hartnett, who co-ordinated all the tickets and money movements, and John Lenihan, who facilitated the direct debits and standing orders. I m sure that without them the draw would not have been the success it has turned out to be. There are three draws left with the final Ford Focus being the first prize in the last draw in March. DEVELOPMENT REPORT After years of consultation and planning, 2006 will be remembered for the huge strides forward we have taken in the development of our facilities. The goals we set for ourselves in the past year have been met. These were: ( 1 ) Floodlighting of 2nd pitch ( 2 ) Construction of third pitch ( 3 ) Terracing of Eastern Side and related work ( 4 ) Water mains have been laid along main pitch and second pitch ( for sprinklers in the event of drought ). A well will have to be sunk in order to supply these mains. ( 5 ) The platform for the scoreboard. ( 6 ) Foundation for the stand. ( 7 ) Footpaths, ramp and ground work ( New Building ) Last July, we were allocated 100,000 under the Sports Capital Programme 2006 for floodlighting. This money has been drown down. On behalf of the Club, I again applied in November 2006 for another grant under the Sports Capital Programme This allocation will be announced in March. Once again I would like to thank Niall and Eoin Brosnan, Solicitors, for their professional services in this and other matters. In 2006, the Club applied for planning permission to build a shed. this will have a number of functions; namely, to house our generator, store equipment and machinery, when built. The Club and I, as Development Officer, are indebted to Padraig Griffin. Padraig has acted as Consultant Engineer to the Club over the last few years to the different projects. His professional service and advice has been invaluable. Our main field is closed at the moment. Re-sodding and re-seeding has taken place. It will remain closed until the beginning of the County League. I would like on behalf of the Club to again thank Dan Kelliher for overseeing the maintenance and care of our pitches. I am delighted to say that our third pitch will be available for use this year. Again this year there was great demand for our facilities. Apart from the County Board, East Kerry Board, individual clubs and schools we were delighted to help out our good neighbours the Deer Park Pitch & Putt Club and the Gleneagle Band. The major work for 2007 will be the completion of the Stand and the fitting out of the new building, surfacing of are parks and footpaths, terracing on second pitch, security fencing and sanding of pitches. In order for the smooth running of the Club with effect from the A.G.M., all Juvenile teams (i.e. boys & girls up the and including under 16 ) will play their games in the top field if they coincide or overlap games of other grades. It is imperative that all coaches put fixtures and times of training on the board. As I am sure you are all aware there is a huge demand on our pitches. Preference will always be given to Club teams without exception. However, if fixtures or training times are not on the board, I will have to take it there is no one using the pitch at a given time. We have a responsibility as a Club to occasionally provide a neutral ground for both the County and East Kerry Boards. A proposal of mine would be to name the pitches, new building, the stand and terracing.
