Workshop 1: Club Maith Facilitator Training for Existing and New Facilitators: (6:45pm start). The Club Maith Scheme recognises good practice within clubs in five core areas of governance, duty of care, culture heritage, coaching & games, and community enhancement that will subsequently improve clubs in their day-to-day business. The scheme also offers a platform for sharing of knowledge and expertise between clubs. The stronger our GAA clubs the stronger we are as an Association. At present there is an increasing volume of Clubs throughout Ulster who are undertaking the Club Maith project and it vital that we expand our pool of qualified facilitators in order to enhance the assessment process. This workshop will be an opportunity for existing Facilitators to update their knowledge of the Club Maith Assessment process as well as encouraging the recruitment of new Facilitators who have expressed an interest, and who possess the necessary experience and qualities required to carry out the role of a Club Maith Facilitator. Workshop 2: Helping Clubs to Secure Grant Aid. (8:15pm) On the same night in Garvaghey, Club Development Officers and interested Club Personnel are invited to attend a Workshop (commencing at 8:15pm) that will be delivered by Mr. Bobby Farren (Derry GAA Development Officer) that will focus on helping Clubs achieve a state of readiness in respect to applying for Grant Aid. This promises to be an extremely useful and informative event and all clubs in the province are encouraged to avail of the expertise and advice that will be on offer from this seminar. To register your place on either (or both) of these workshops please contact Gavin McGilly on or RSVP by Wednesday 11th June 2014 with names of proposed attendees to: gavin.mcgilly.ulster@gaa.ie

7 DOWN GAA - WORKING TOGETHER Page 7 PAIRC ESLER At the recent Down v Tyrone Ulster Championship replay we tried to address concerns from patrons in relation to the parking situation at Pairc Esler. We put on a shuttle Bus to run in the Greenbank and a similar bus to run from the Albert Basin to take patrons to the game. We would welcome feedback from our supporters on how they think this experiment worked any comments should be sent to secretary.down@gaa.ie or by post to Main Street Castlewellan BT 31 9DG We were very lucky to be able to access free parking at the Quays who are associate sponsors of Down GAA and also at the Albert Basin site courtesy of Newry and Mourne District Council. It would be great if we were able to call upon these favours and support throughout the summer for more big Qualifier games in Pairc Esler. ADVERTISING AND SUPPORT FOR DOWN GAA Pitch side advertisements The number of pitch side advertisements is growing in Pairc Esler with recent additions from The Quays The Murdock Group Armatile The Brass Monkey Associate Sponsors O Hare and McGovern We are also delighted that The Quays The Murdock Group Destination Newry have also joined O Hare and McGovern as Associate Sponsors of Down GAA. These are all local businesses putting their shoulder to the wheel to help make it happen, they deserve the support of the family that is Down GAA. CONSULTATIVE PROCESS This time last year we engaged with many interested parties in relation to the future of Down Football. This was largely inspired by the fact that we were entering our 20 th year without Provincial Success at Senior Level which is our longest spell without success since our great breakthrough in Reality is we will now be entering into our 21 st year without success in 2015, so the time is right for us to be addressing the issue. You will recall that we appointed David Passmore from DCU to lead the project and on Wednesday 4 th June in the Mardyke Suite in the Canal Court Hotel at 7.30pm produce his draft plan and Strategic Overview. The Steering Groups who have been active in the production of this plan will be in attendance on Wednesday night with the opportunity to discuss and amend accordingly. This is a Draft Document and the onus is now on us all to input and have it ready for formal adoption and implementation in September Ownership of the Final Plan will belong to Down GAA, its players, its clubs, its administrators, its supporters, the parents, the schools and in essence the whole family that is Down GAA. This is ours: the challenge is Bin It or Use It.

Willie was Treasurer of Coiste Iomana from 1972 for more than 40 years and gave great service to the administration of the County ensuring that the best interests of hurling in the County were always to the fore. Willie also was an accomplished hurler and referee playing first for Down in the 1954 Ulster Championship exactly 60 years ago. It was as a member of his beloved Ballygalget John Mitchels that Willie will be most fondly remembered; an outstanding Club man Willie was active and attending committee meetings up to March of this year. A minutes silence was observed before the Christy Ring Cup game on Saturday and again on Sunday prior to the Antrim V Fermanagh Ulster Championship game as Willie had also acted for many years as an Ulster Council Steward. We extend our sympathies to the entire Johnston Family Circle and the gaels of Ballygalget at this time as we remember Willie fondly and smile in the memory of days that we shared. 12 DOWN CHAMPIONSHIP ARRANGEMENTS The Down GAA Ticket Unit will hopefully be on the road and operating at all our Senior Championship Venues this Year. Patrons are reminded to purchase their match tickets at the booth before approaching the Turnstiles. This system which is being implemented in many counties throughout Ireland ensures that everyone has a receipt going through the turnstiles or entering our grounds. We ask you all to co operate fully with our gatemen on these busy Championship weekends, they are volunteers who give up of their time to ensure that our fixtures run smoothly and they don t even get to see the games in most cases. Respect is a simple gesture if we all practice it then we all have an enjoyable experience. DOWN GAA - WORKING TOGETHER Page 12 CONCUSSION AWARENESS WORKSHOPS On Wednesday 21st May 2014 Down GAA held two workshops aimed at highlighting the issue of concussion in our players.
