Well, as usual, the anticipation is almost always greater than the results, and that was the case at Irvine Lake on July 7th, as most thought there would be at least one big fish (meaning 8 pounds plus) if not more brought to the scale. This was a different format than we usually fish, starting at 2PM and ending at 11PM. Mike Byrum caught his kicker fish of 4.43 pounds way back in the jungle on a frog in the afternoon, you know, the one that everyone was looking for. Mike caught his other four keepers on a drop shot Morning Dawn and then switched to a Junebug trick worm after dark to win with pounds. John Demonet caught plenty of bass (three limits) with the Yamamoto Shad Shaped worm and the Senko to take the second spot with pounds Bringing another 5 fish limit to the scale was Richard Cabori who used a Shakeyhead jig with a Berkley Crazy Legs Power Craw to put pounds in the boat and earning a third place finish. Dan Caldwell had a good tournament, landing 4 bass totaling pounds fishing out of the back seat of Richard Cabori s boat to nail down the 4th place. Jonathan Demonet also brought a 5 fish limit to the weigh in for his 5th place finish. One-Day Tournament: Pounds San Vicente August 2002 Two-Day Tournament: lbs Santa Margarita April 2013 Other memorable catches included Josh, Earl Bunkers grandson, who caught the only other 4 pound bass of the tournament, a very nice 4.11 pounder, and Zuleika Caldwell, the former Zuleika Montano, who had her 5th fish on twice, but one got off and the other broke her line. You can tell by the picture she was very excited. Great job Josh and Zuleika. Congratulations again to Mike Byrum for winning the OCBC s first tournament at Irvine Lake. Irvine Lake is once again our July Tournament We will get our second shot at the Irvine twilight tournament on July 6th starting at 2 PM and ending at 11 PM. The word is that the lake is low, but the fishing is good so come prepared to fish a combination of an afternoon bite and an evening bite. Most of the time you will need to change tactics with the light change, but sometimes not. Come sign up at the meeting tonight and good luck to all the OCBC and friends that fish the event.
