Nation Championship, Utah State Team Finishes in rd Place. The Utah BASS Nation State Team rolled into Clear Lake CA 9- April as the defending western divisional champions and looking to retain the title and win another boat. The event unfolded with picture perfect weather with warm temperatures and minimal wind. Chase Colby set the pace for the boaters on Day with a fish limit for lbs ounces good for second place with Bill Brown in th and Mike Lavallee in 6th. On the nonboater side of things Mike Powell was leading the entire field on the strength of a fish limit for 7 lbs ounces with Randy (peaches) Pierson and Cory Stovall less than lbs behind him. Team Utah served notice to the team title and was sitting in first place with lb 9 ounce total team, but it was going to be a tight race with less than lbs separating st place and th place.. On Day things shuffled up a bit for the boaters with Don Allphin moving into the mix and sitting in th place overall on the strength of a 7+ lb gorgeous spotted bass with Justin Hicks, Chase Colby, Bill Brown and Mike Lavallee close on his heels and less than. lbs behind. On the nonboater side of things Mike Powell was steadfast as always with Cory Stovall and Terry Peterson less than. lbs behind. Day was setting up to be a wide open shoot out when the field was cut to the top boaters and nonboaters competing for the $, in cash payouts along with the chance for the # boater and # nonboater from each state to advance to the 7 National Championship and the opportunity to compete in the 8 BASSMASTER Classic. The Utah BASS Nation once again advanced the most anglers into the final day ( boaters and nonboaters) for the second year in a row. Mike Lavallee stayed solid and brought in another fish limit weighing lbs ounces and garnering a th place overall finish in the tournament with a total of lbs 9 ounce and captured the # boater position for Utah. Mike Powell maintained his rock solid performance and led the Utah nonboaters on Day with three fish for lbs ounces for a total of 8 lbs ounces eclipsing Cory Stovall by ounces to seal his victory. Thanks to everyone for working hard, staying focused and contributing everyday and enabling the TEAM to finish in rd place. Please wish Mike Lavallee and Mike Powell good luck when you see them, they will both be representing Utah at the 7 BASS Nation Championship at Lake Hartwell, South Carolina 9- October. 3 ATTENTION UTAH BASS NATION ANGLERS The second state team qualification tournament will be conducted - November Bullfrog Marina, Lake Powell Utah. This tournament is a separate stand-alone qualification tournament This tournament will qualify anglers towards the 8 state team (6 boaters and non-boaters) anglers total will make up the state team and be eligible to attend the BASS Western Regional in 8 ( anglers qualified in March) The Ticaboo Hotel is the host hotel for all tournament activities and has generously offered up a great fisherman only rate of $9 a night plus tax. Please call them to lock into a st floor reservation (-788-). The pretournament meeting will be on 6 March at the Ticaboo pool/restaurant starting at : for check-in, payment into option pots and receiving the sponsor gift packs. The pretournament meeting and raffle starts promptly at : and as soon as that is completed we will proceed with the partner pairing. MEMBERSHIP There always seems to be some confusion in regards to what ALL is required to be a member of the Utah BASS Nation and the easiest way to explain is to compare it to a legged stool. If any of the legs are missing your stool is not going to work. Leg # - is the BASS Magazine subscription this gets you your membership number and can be taken care of on your own accord (can be anywhere from an annual subscription to a yr, yr or even a lifetime subscription) -877-BASSUSA Leg # - is payment of National Dues cost is $ and this goes to BASS headquarters and is used to run the entire BASS Nation program throughout the entire country. This $ should be collected by your club president for remittance to BASS headquarters. The rate is set by BASS not the UTBN. Leg # is payment of Utah BASS Nation State Dues cost is $, this goes directly into the UTBN account and is used to offset expenses for operating tournaments, purchase raffle items, provide a stipend to state team anglers and national contenders along with supporting the annual veterans free fishing program. This money should be collected by your club president and submitted to the UTBN treasurer. REMINDER: FOR RENEWING MEMBERS -To be eligible for the state team you must have paid state and national dues no later than March 7 (this rules applies to anyone that has ever been a member of the UTBN at any time). FOR BRAND NEW MEMBERS if you have never been a member of the UTBN you have up until the day prior of the tournament starting to have all dues paid in FULL to be eligible for the state team
