Strolling the jetties in warm sunshine - while viewing beautifully displayed craft - was the perfect setting for boat lovers to indulge their senses and free the imagination. Gorgeous craft decked in festive colours and languishing on their moorings, beckoned visitors on board for a closer look. Those who could not resist the thought of summer on the water - went home a boat richer! Featuring integrated control from any Lowrance HDS Gen2 or HDS Gen2 Touch, the Outboard Pilot can be installed with hydraulic or cable-steer outboard systems. Designed for outboard boats of 30ft (9m) or less in length, the Lowrance Outboard Pilot can steer to a selected heading, waypoint or along a route and execute a selected turn pattern. Users can also create routes from saved trails to retrace previous tracks from a fishing area back to the dock. The complete system includes a Point-1 GPS antenna. INANDA BASS NATIONALS (August 4th 9th 2014) Mario Nel of Eastern Division will join a 50-strong field of anglers fighting for positions and titles at the SABAA National Senior Bass Championships - to be held at Inanda Dam next week. He is one of many of the top anglers participating who use Lowrance units to ensure their success in this prestigious tournament. Several coveted titles are at stake including positions in the Protea and President s teams (13 in each including reserves) and President s Angler. The top six ranked anglers will be selected to compete in the World Championships next year. Six anglers (chosen last year) will be fishing in Mexico in November Lowrance SA will meet up with the competitors at Inanda Dam during their mid-week free day. TRAINING DAY The staff and volunteers of Msinsi, Rescue Tech and Station 5 of the NSRI took part in a spectacular training day at Inanda Dam recently. John Easton and five other skippers transported the 30 people involved in six boats to their various destinations. The hands-on training involving simulated incidents and injuries sustained both on land and on the water. The land-based incident required a water recovery due to lack of accessibility of the area and Rescue Tech s team had to set up ropes to climb up a sheer rock face. Once on top, they had to find and stabilize the patient and then lower them to the waiting boat in the water, by abseiling down the cliff! The NSRI s simulated boating accident involved four passengers all of whom sustained various injuries. Lowrance units were used to locate the people involved in the incidents. John s HDS-9 Touch proved invaluable as he manoeuvred around the dam with the NSRI chief who was an observer for the day. A three-day training session is scheduled in September BACK TO BASICS

3 One never knows it all and the Lowrance SA team will be the first to agree. Our staff joined Billy Wilson from Sales Guru recently for a two-day training session on the art of successful selling. During the course we went back to basics, covering all aspects of sales with discussion and role playing forming an important part of the learning process. Apart from being a good refresher this was a good team building event with much laughter to keep spirits high. We all enjoyed the drinks and social interaction at the end of each day. DEALER VISITS Lowrance SA s Mikala and John recently visited 13 Eastern Cape dealers from Port Alfred to Umtata. Mikala paid special attention to sales training, giving advice and demo s on new and existing units. John focused on giving technical advice, installation training and tips. They also visited Super Cat and Lee Cat. More visits are planned in coming months. GREAT CATCHES One can always trust Kosi Bay to produce good fishing. It seems to be the favoured spot for the team from Natal Caravans & Marine. Dave Flack, his wife and crew enjoyed peaceful and productive fishing earlier this year - with some good hauls off their Lowrance-equipped boat. Director Brian Courtis was already on his third trip to the area in the recent holidays, when his sons-in-law decided to treat him with a visit with five of his grandkids in tow! Needless to say they all had lots of fun not so sure about Brian though! Considering the time of year some nice Stumpies and Grunter were caught. MORE DEALER NEWS Take a look at this awesome Crackleback 500 from Escape Boating. This boat has been exported to France and has been fitted with a Lowrance HDS-9 and HDS-12 Touch screen.

Lowrance enthusiasts Japie & Elandi Botha fished in the monthly "Cast for Cash" competition at Loskop Dam recently, finishing in 2nd place. After spotting a big showing on the Lowrance HDS-9 Touch Elandi caught her new personal best - a 3.370kg beauty. KEEN FOR A CHARTER EXPERIENCE? 5 JOHN S TIP John answers the questions: How do I select the Point-1 for GPS data or Heading data on my HDS? GPS data selection is the same as any NMEA external antenna. GPS sources can be found in the HDS Data Sources menu. This can be found: On keypad units, by pressing Menu Menu Network Data Sources. Select GPS, then All Data. You should see the Point-1 listed in this menu. On Touch units press the Pages key, tap Settings, tap Network, tap Data Sources. Then select GPS, then All Data. You should see the Point-1 in this menu. HDS also has an Auto Select feature. When this is enabled the HDS will choose the antenna with the best Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) from the available satellites. Depending on the mounting location, view of the sky etc. having Auto Select enabled may not always choose the Point-1 for GPS data. How do I select the Point-1 for heading data on my HDS? Selecting the Point-1 for heading is the same process as selecting the Point-1 for GPS. However, since heading is determined by a compass, rather than from the satellites, heading can be found under Vessel, from the Data Source Selection page, rather than GPS.
