1 UD Pulau Mas Semester Report of Seafood Savers Membership Summary of improvement developments by UD Pulau Mas (October 2015) (March 2016) (Achmad Mustofa) - (National Capture Fisheries Coordinator)
2 General Information In this period, UD Pulau Mas as the member of Seafood Savers tend to do activities concerning in the finalization of its internal policy concept and started to get involve with the local government withits several rules and data. 1. Internal Policy UD Pulau Mas through auditors locatedin all over the the cages, observed the implementation of company s policy that had been arranged, such as the policy to buy fish only from the fishermen members. This meant that non-member fishermen could not sell fish to UD Pulau Mas. Nevertheless, there were some non-member fishermen board out their fish to member fishermen happened at West Manggarai and Selayar. This damagedthe system which was still being built by UD Pulau Mas, that was the system of fish selling quota by each member fishermen. The internal quota system were planned to be applied effectively in 2017based on the result of the previous year catch. By the large number of non-member fishermen that sold their fish to the member fishermen, it would affect the quota that those fishermen had. In this period, UD Pulau Mas educatedfishermen member about that quota system and made few of them restrict the fish that was deposited to them, so they would not get disadvantage next year. Beside that quota system problem, UD Pulau Mas wasinternally being strict to the head of each cages or UPIH (Unit of Processing Fish) to not accept fish under the company s policy (>500 gram). From the information on the field, there were some of head of cages / UPIH bought fish whose size was under UD Pulau Mas s policy in order to get additional income. By this case, UD Pulau Mas fired those naughty head of cages directly and replaced their position with others. 2. Getting involve with government By using IBM system that had been installed in all cages, UD Pulau Mas had comprehensive data that covered all the kind of fish, date of caught, location, fish size, and fishermen who catched. By using that data also, the government through Puslitbangkan, visited UD Pulau Mas office in Benoa as the introduction step before signing MoU for sharing datadedicated to Indonesia s scientific data. 3. Participated to HCR training UD Pulau Mas through the Head of cages in Wakatobi, participated to the introduction of Harvest Control Rule and Data Collecting for Catch Reconstruction presented by Muhammad Yusuf from WWF Indonesia. This training was held on February 2016 at Conservation Campus, Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi.
