Happy New year to all and hope you had an enjoyable and safe holiday break, spending some good quality time with friends and family. I look forward to catching up at our February meeting and hearing all the reports, it s a great time of the year and we are all spoilt for choice from Murray cod at Lake Eildon and Mulwala to Kingfish, Whiting and Squid in the bay. Tuna and Kings to the west and Marlin along the south east coast. Who would want to live anywhere else!! We all enjoyed another successful Christmas Party. Huge thanks goes out to a few people in particular for helping out on the day, Alfie Altarelli, Charlie Costa, Tony Grech and the whole committee for all their hard work and preparation. Guest Speaker Next meeting we have Joe Greco from Fish Ranger promoting a new weather website specifically designed for Fisherman For all auto parts and accessories to suit all Makes and Models, new and old parts visit Rare Spares Melbourne Shop 6/195 Somerton Rd Roxburgh Park VIC, 3064 Ph: (03) ACTIVE MOTOR REPAIRS 6 Walters Street, Craigieburn All Mechanical Repairs, Air Conditioning Service & Licensed Vehicle Tester Damien Theuma - Ph Another successful trip down at Portland with Kings and Tuna showing up nice and close to the harbour. It was great to see a good attendance there with heaps of laughs but unfortunately the weather wasn t the best and we missed out on a very hot Kingfish bite by a week. Pretty bad luck, but that s fishing. As the committee works to make each comp /event more successful, we hope to see more participation from members and of course we would love to get more Juniors involved. Looking ahead we have some comps that cater for anglers of all ages so we hope you can get involved and enjoy the experience of fishing together as a club. Life's Short, Fish Hard - Spent Half my life fishing the other half I ve wasted Ray Caruana Right: Jamie Peel took advantage of a hot bite report of Kings going Nuts driving to Portland for a day, straight after a successful top water session there a few days earlier Above: New Member Tana Kitapci had a trip to remember. First time on the Kingfish at Portland and it was as easy as it comes with excellent fish hitting a weightless Pilchard put on offer.

Right: Fishing solo, Joe Bailey caught this 10.3kg Kingfish along North shore with a shallow diving Lure thrown into a school of kings smashing the surface. Great effort to catch and land fishing solo.
3 FISHING REPORTS: Local Waters: The whiting are going strong along the western part of the bay from Altona right through to Clifton Springs, best area is in close along wedge Spit at Werribee South. There are still some Snapper about for those that put in the hours. Out deep from the point Cook trees has been doing well and along the channel in front of Clifton Springs is fairly consistent, sitting right along the edge of the channel is the trick along there. The Bay is fishing extremely well for Squid, with all areas around the bay producing some lovely size squid, best areas are still the southern parts but for those not wanting to travel can get a nice feed from Brighton and right along to Altona. Kingfish are holding in the Rip and most Charters are getting them amongst the schools of busting Salmon which are up to 2.5kg, trick is to get past the Salmon and to the Kingfish which usually hold beneath them. Freshwater: Lake Eildon has still been producing Murray Cod which are in wonderful condition, and Lake Mulwala has had a few fishermen join the meter club with some exceptional Cod being caught on deep diving lures and surface lures late in the evening. A New Change you Need to Know. A recent coronial inquest prompted us to review the risks to safety for boating in the vicinity of Port Phillip Heads. Recognising the various navigational hazards in the area, we sought an expansion to the area defined as Port Phillip Heads within the meaning of the Marine Safety Regulations This amendment has now taken effect and the new definition of Port Phillip Heads in regulation 4 of the Marine Safety Regulations is: Port Phillip Heads means all the waters between an imaginary line drawn between Shortland Bluff and Point Nepean, and the seaward limits of an imaginary line consisting the arc of a circle with a radius of 3 nautical miles centred on Point Lonsdale. This definition of Port Phillip Heads now includes the area at the entrance to Port Phillip Bay, where conditions are known to present additional risks to vessels operating there. The defined area is shown in the diagram below: Left : Peter Grossi with his first Bluefin out of his new project boat, Peter landing 2 Southern Bluefin Tuna for the weekend with one being caught less than 100 mts from the Lee breakwater in 12mts of water Above : Darren Buttigieg having an awesome run of Marlin out from Bermagui, one weekend taking out the Bermagui Bluewater Classic the next with double figures of tagged marlin in a Day all done with his 10 y.o. daughter Makayla by his side Fisheries News From 1 April 2016, commercial netting licences will be progressively removed as part of the State Government's Target One Million plan to grow recreational fishing. Legislation has been passed to end netting in Port Phillip Bay, beginning this year first nets removed in April all netting ends in Corio Bay all netting ends in Port Phillip Bay. Above: Peter Thermos getting the job done with a couple 35cm whiting from wedge Spit, Werribbee sth.
