3 Uit die Voorsitter se pen / Note from the chairman: Uit die Onder - Voorsitter se pen Met Henry en Christelle nog in die buiteland, is dit my voorreg om die verslag aan julle voor te hou. Dit is met groot leedwese dat ons verneem het van Jean Nel Snr. se heengaan, hy het diep spore agtergelaat in die klub toe hy opgehou hengel het. Aan Elmien en die kinders ons innige simpatie met jul groot verlies. Met die afgelope jaarvergadering van Mpumalanga is Paul Whitaker verkies tot Ere President en Jako Jordaan tot Hulp- Rekordsbeampte. Baie geluk aan die lede. Die afgelope maand het Louis du Preez vir ons n baie geslaagde tacklebox aangebied wat gehandel het oor veiligheid rondom n boot. Met al die toernooie om die draai gaan die volgende tacklebox handel oor IGFA en SADSAA reels. Kom luister hoe lank jou stroppe moet wees en waar jou hoeke moet sit sodat jy ingelig kan wees en sodoende nie dalk gediskwalifiseer word nie. Daar het dertien bote van die klub ingeskryf vir die OET, en daar is heel party lede wat hengel op ander klubbote. Baie dankie aan Angling & Outdoor vir die borgskap met die opgradering van die badkamers. Dit is n groot verbetering en n aanwins vir die klub. Vrydag 21 Oktober vind die klub se prysuitdelings funksie by die klubhuis plaas, kontak gerus vir Jaco Jordaan vroegtydig vir kaartjies en/of meer inligting. Hengel groete Jan Joubert. 6 Rekords / Records: Regulations covering record catches Line Class 1. Line Class Record catch claims will only be considered for acceptance when the weight of the fish equals or exceeds the breaking strain of the line. (Only for SA Records) 2. Estimated weights will not be accepted, fractions of grams will not be considered Time Limited of Claims 1. Claims for record fish, must be received by NDAC records official within 30 days (one month) from catch. Weight requirement for record fish 1. The fish must be weighed by an official weigh master (if one is available) or by an official of a member club or by a recognized local person familiar with the scale. Disinterested witnesses to the weight should be used whenever possible. 2. At the time of weighing, the actual tackle used by the angler to catch the fish must be exhibited to the weigh master and weight witness. 3. No estimated weights will be accepted. Fish weighed at sea will not be accepted. 4. Only weights indicated by the graduations on the scale will be accepted. Visional fractionalizing of these graduations is not allowed. Any weights that fall between two graduations on the scale must be rounded to the lower of the two. 5. All record fish must be weighed on scales that have been assized and certified for the accuracy by a recognized scale adjuster. 6. In extreme remote areas where no weighing scales are available, it will be permissible for the angler to use his own scales, providing that they are of a quality type and have been properly assized and certified both before and after returning from the fishing trip. 7. NDAC reserved the right to require any scale to be recertified for accuracy if there is any indication that the scale might not have weighed correctly. 8. All lines will be examined by NDAC to verify the specified strength of the line. If the line over tests its particular category, the application will not be considered for the lower line class. 9. The heaviest line class permitted for records is 60kg class. If the line over tests these maximum strengths, the claim will be disallowed. 10. Extreme care should be exercised in measuring the fish, as measurements are often important for weight verification and scientific studies. Line Samples 1. All applications line class records must be accompanied by the entire leader, the double line and at least 15 meters of the single line closest to the double line, leader or hook. 2. All line samples and the leader (if one is used) must be submitted in one piece. If a lure is used with the leader, the leader should be cut at the eye attachment to the lure. 7 Photographs 1. Photographs showing the full length of the fish, the rod and real used to make the catch and the scale used to weigh the fish must accompany each record application. A photograph of the angler with the fish also required. So that there can be no question of species identification, the clearest possible photo's should be submitted. 2. In all cases, photographs should be taken of the fish in a hanging position, and also lying on a flat surface on its side. The fish should be broadsided to the camera and no part of the fish should be obscured. 3. An additional photograph of the fish on the scale with actual weight visible helps to expedite the application. Species Identification 1. Photographs must be submitted, by which positive identification of the exact species can be made. Witness to catch 1. On all record claims, witnesses to the catch are highly desirable if at all possible. Catches where no witnesses were present may be disallowed if questions arise regarding their authenticity. NB: This is a guideline to assist you in your next possible record. If in doubt, do not hesitate to contact me or Jan Joubert anytime. On a lighter note. 9 Nuusbrokkies / News Snippets: The Best Day of Fishing Ever! These four were pulled from the icy waters of Stephens Passage, Alaska, by a group of locals on Tom Satre's 62-foot charter vessel. Four juvenile Sitka black-tailed deer swam directly toward the boat. Once the deer reached the boat, the four began to circle the boat, looking directly at the humans on board. Clearly, the bucks were distressed. With help, the typically skittish and absolutely wild animals came willingly onto the boat. Once onboard, they collapsed with exhaustion, shivering. Here the rescued bucks rest on the back of Tom Satre's boat, the Alaska Quest. All four deer were transported to Taku Harbor. Once the group reached the dock, the first buck that had been pulled from the water hopped onto the dock, looked back, then leapt into the harbor, swam to shore, and disappeared into the forest. After a bit of prodding and assistance from the humans, two others followed suit, but one deer needed more help. The good Samaritans (humans) describe their experience as "one of those defining moments in life.." I'm sure it was for the deer as well. Page 9 of 14

11 Hengelaars terugvoering / Anglers Feedback: BALI HAI LODGE, BARRA, INHAMBANE, MOSAMBIEK Die boot Charlie s Angel het hierdie jaar tydens die Onderberg Spesie Uitnodigings Bonanza ʼn prys gewen vir verblyf by Bali High Lodge in Barra, Inhambane in Mosambiek vir 8 mense vir n week (7 nagte). Na vele beplanning het ons besluit om die prys te gebruik tydens die week van September Al het die weer nie elke dag saamgespeel nie was ons darem in staat om van Maandag 12 September Vrydag 16 September elke dag uit te gaan see toe. Vangste was redelik goed en veral Maandag 12 September het ons baie goed gevaar! Ons het 11 visse gevang & 5 spesies wat bestaan het uit Wahoo, Cuda, Yellofin Tuna, Bonito & Rainbow Runner. Vriend Jannie Erasmus van Pretoria het ʼn pragtige Wahoo gevang van 20Kg. Dinsdag 13 September was die see goed onstuimig en was vangste bietjie af, maar nogtans het ons paar mooi visse gevang onder andere nog n mooi Wahoo van 15Kg deur myself Woensdag 14 September het jongeling Jaco van der Merwe ʼn prag seilvis aangekeer voor die lighuis op n half-beak voorberei op Island Lure stiff rig, en Donderdag was dit Boet-Jan Pieterse se beurt met nog ʼn seilvis ook tussen Game & die Lighuis gevang op ʼn strip bait voorberei op een van Paul Borcherds se dubbel hoek seilvis rigs! Vrydag 16 September kon ons net hengel tot 09:00 voordat die Suide wind verwoed opgesteek het en ons weggejaag van die see af! Ten spyte daarvan het beide bote mooi cudas en ʼn paar yellowfin tunas gevang! Ons wil graag ons hartlike dank uitspreek aan Jannie & Dorothy Moolman van Bali High Lodge vir die wyse waarop ons ontvang was! Die akkomodasie en reëlings was puik en nogmaals baie dankie aan Jannie wat op kort kennisgewing ingestem het om van die manne uit te vat op sy boot Sail-la-Vie! Ons het heerlik gebly en gehengel en enige iemand wat hierdie prys in die toekoms wen kan uitsien na heerlike avontuur en gemak!
